You're Generally Indie. There's nothing wrong with this. You like music all over the map and aren't adversed to listening to some Top 40 here and there. You just know to comment that The Neptunes are the best producers around right now. You don't feel the need to debate constantly with other music geeks, because you know that Pavement were the best band of the 90s.
-
I'm a post punk. No surprise there.
-
Here's what I got:
You're a True Punk. You know that punk isn't all about studded jackets and mohawks. If you're political, you're actually informed. Most of the stuff you love is from before the 80s, though you know bands like Fugazi kept the spirit going.

ditto.

I'm beginning to think this is an insult.

You're a Post-Punk. You know 70s punk was cool, but it was mostly just a stepping stone for the greater intellectualism of what would come after. The 80s were amazing. You quite possibly have huge hair, and may wear lots of black. Snare drums need reverb. Lots and lots of reverb.
-
Post-punk as well.
-
I answered this:
The Elephant 6 Collective were the best thing to happen to the 90s.
But got generally Indie with Pavement being the best thing of the 90s. It was obivious if you varied from the same number answer that you would be "generally indie" but if you were true to always choosing answer 3 or the like you would hit a catagory.

"You're a Britpopper. The UK is your thing. The Smiths really were 'terrif' and Blur are indie no matter how much money they made. You could drink all the other indie kids under the table. You plan on moving to London someday and dream of one day owning every Beatles release on vinyl. "
I looked at all the results, and I think this is the farthest from me. While I loved the Smiths, et al in the 80s, I'm not into the new britpop (Blur, etc).
Personally, I think I'm a mix of post-punk, riot grrl and generally indie. But, we don't get to pick, do we.

You're Avante Garde Indie. You listen to abstract music like free-jazz and Krautrock. You drink too much coffee and you scare the fuck out of the rest of us. We're afraid to call you pretentious because we know that we all just don't get it. There are few of you out there, and most of you will probably die soon.
Huh. Something I already knew (except I don't drink coffee). I coulda been listening to more Merzbow, instead.
NP: Beethoven - Sym. 8; Zinman, Tonhalle Orch. Zurich; Arta Nova

postpunker...woo

"You're a New York City Trendster. All of the bands you like are from New York or sound like it. You're probably the least indie, but still pretty cool. I mean, despite our backlash, we love these bands too. And yes, Julian Casablancas is hot."
I have some catching up to do...
-
I'm post punk aswell...huge suprise there
you wear lots of black. Snare drums need reverb. Lots and lots of reverb.
too true, too true.
-
You're an Indie Pop Kid. You like songs about relationships and the prettiness of nature. You're sentimental, but not certainly not emo. Oh, and if you aren't an English Major, you should be.
-Not sure if I selected too much Belle and Sebastian or not enough.
-
I'm brit pop, but they can take them there Beatles albums and toss 'em.

What they really needed on that band list of 'forefathers' is Big Star. Nearly all my fave bands cite Big Star as a major influence.... Next would be a tie between the Beatles and the Beach Boys. THEN the Who.
;)
-
brit pop here as well...don't have much beatles, but i do enjoy drinking
-
Maybe all the britpoppers should organize a big pint drinking outing!? Although, I guess it's more fun if we have some indie kids to actually drink under the table... :D
-
hmmm, i came out as a mod. probably because of answering the who on one question. . but come on, we all know that contemporary indie music is all based from the beach boys' "pet sounds." :)
