Was anyone there?
Tweets about it here (http://twitter.com/totalvibration) and here. (http://twitter.com/grimkim)
Blog post here. (http://ht.ly/569I1)

I hope Brian is all right.

Sonar's digging a hole for themselves. Deeper and deeper way down...
-
yet ANOTHER example of a non-white, non-violent music genre event degenerating into violence... oh, wait.
-
^My thoughts upon posting.
Hope Sonar's doors stay open at least until after Shellac.
-
The comment in the blog post says it was a cop that sprayed the pepper spray

i'm not sure what is more pathetic here:
a "deathfest"
violence at a concert called "deathfest"
sweetcell's attempt at humour, but just coming off like an smug asshole (no wonder azag approves)
or the fact that people involved in music playing at a "deathfest" . . . would be on something as gay as twitter. perhaps it should be "fagfest."
-
Back in the day, a real metal show would be a failure if someone didn't get beaten up or maced by security.

A) It is kind of a fitting name for a metal festival.
2) Controlled violence (a pit of some sort of willing participants) is typically expected. Problems arise when unwilling people are pepper sprayed and physically attacked without provacation.
3) Sweetcell's comment was called for after your display last week.
Z) Both people whose twitter accounts I linked were reporting for NPR. Yes, NPR cover metal now and they have been doing a fantastic job so far.

Twitter isn't gay.

Anybody going to Maryland Deathfest this year and if so, what days/venues?
Right now I am thinking about going to the thrash and death metal heavy Saturday show at the Edison Lot.
-
good god . . . I was an ass back in 2011. and yes, twitter, is still gay.
-
You should come to the Edison Lot show that I mentioned! Also get Carlos and a film crew! It would be one hell of a documentary.
-
i'll show up with twenty cats . . . like a pied piper of pussy.
-
Never been. Most years there are 2-3 bands i would kill to see but it never works out. Not sure there are any bands on the bill this year that I'll regret not seeing. Some I'd definitely like to see, though.

I go every year. It's always so good and fun. I discover new bands every year and regret the years I only bought single day tix. I'll be there all 4 this year. Did all 4 last year and it was amazing.
Thursday night at Ram's Head will be great this year. You should consider hitting that.
-
I have tickets for Thursday at Ram's Head. Weedeater and Buzzov-en on the same day! Double dose of Dixie Dave! Everyone else is awesome too except The Offering who keep changing their members and even their name. I hope they are decent.
Also got Saturday Ram's Head tix because Saturnalia Temple is amazing. I also plan on hitting the Edison Lot on Sunday for Bongzilla, Venom, Serpent Throne, etc.
I too go every year and see some great bands and meet interesting people.
-
Yeah, I'll probably go Sunday
-
I made a mix of all the artists playing at Edison Lot on Saturday (my only definite). I might do the Thursday night Rams Head one as well. The mix/day is mostly thrash and death metal.

The set times are out...
-
Looks like I'm not going at all this year. Friends best party Sunday (seriously who schedules a bday party on memorial day weekend, how terrible ;) ) and hitting up the regional burning man event Friday and Saturday (Playa del Fuego)
-
Too bad! I am planning on attending Thursday Rams Head, Saturday Edison, and Monday Post Post at Ottobar (depending on how boating goes that day)...
-
Oh shit, Zhrine just got added as a replacement to Sunday RHL! Their first ever North American show!
-
I was really looking forward to seeing Svartidauši but that is an epic replacement they've booked in Zhrine!
-
I'm a a bit bummed both Serpent Throne and Destroyer 666 cancelled for Sunday. I may not go to Edison Lot that day now. Bongzilla and Venom are still there and so is Demolition Hammer but I just don't know...
-
Venom was the only band on that lineup that I wanted to see. I was thinking about Edison lot on Friday too, but do not want to pay $65 and only want to see Centinex, Mayhem, Horrendous, Khold, and the Haunted.
-
Horrendous play this area a lot but I have a feeling their performance at MDF will really turn some heads.
-
See everyone soon!
-
Too bad Dopethrone cancelled for tonight. I should be there from the middle of Crypt Sermon's set until almost the end of Weedeater...
The Offering 6:00 to 6:35
Crypt Sermon 6:55 to 7:30
Buzzov*en 7:50 to 8:35
Bongripper 8:55 to 9:40
Weedeater 10:00 to 10:50
Claudio Simonetti's Goblin 11:10 to 12:00
Earth 12:25 to 1:30
-
Day 1 down. I was able to catch Buzzoven, Bongripper, Ratboiler, Corpse Light, and Triac.
Bongripper was the best.
It was cool finally seeing Corpse Light live (their drummer plays in my band too).
-
Triac played today? I thought they played last night.
-
All of the bands I saw so far were last night...
-
I'm clearly not paying attention.
-
;D
I think I might get a four day pass next year, and a hotel for Friday and Saturday. Tomorrow would be an easy day if I had somewhere I could go to for a break that is walking distance away from Edison Lot and the Power Plant area. As it is, I think I am just going to skip the first half of the day and get there for Atrophy to the end.
Atrophy 5:00 to 5:50
Hail of Bullets 5:55 to 6:45
Impaled Nazarene 6:50 to 7:40
Exciter 7:45 to 8:35
Nuclear Assault 8:40 to 9:35
Testament 9:45 to 10:50
-
Vas just told me I should not have any issue finding street parking twice close to Edison Lot tomorrow. I might go for the first three bands and then come back for Atrophy or Hail of Bullets to the end.
Hellbringer 12:15 to 12:50
Demonical 12:55 to 1:35
Gruesome 1:40 to 2:25
-

Hell yes it will be a good time.

Gruesome filled in for Sinister today and almost stole the whole day! Very fun band.
-
I went to Ram's Head Thursday and caught every band. Other than the local opener band who was ok retro rock but have room for improvement, all the bands were great in their own way. Earth was way better than when I saw them nine years ago. Claudio Simonetti's Goblin was really awesome. Bongripper was probably the best band of the night just edging out Goblin. Those guys are just so tight. Absolutely lock step with each other! Seeing Buzzov-en's first show in five years was a grimy treat along with Dixie Dave doing double duty in Weedeater. This night was right up my alley.
I had work on Friday but am heading back to Ran's Head Saturday night. Skipping Sunday at this point. I said fuck it and bought a ticket to Monday's after-party show at the Ottobar. I've never seen Doom, Infest or Rotton Sound before. That one will be insane I'm guessing.
-
I'm having a great time at this. So worth the investment in the whole fest and a hotel up here.

Gruesome played two shows
Wish I saw them.
Off to Primavera. ;D
-
I only went to Ram's Head on Saturday and I agree with blipvurt's power ranking haha. Dragged Into Sunlight bulldozed everything in their wake. What an insane spectacle they were. I'm shocked no one had a seizure. I did see some drunk guy eat shit and had to be carried out like he was dead weight though. They were like Eyehategod only 20x more intense.
Saturnalia Temple was amazing as well. I have been waiting two years to see 'em. I loved them, totally my kind of music! I talked with vocalist/guitar slinger Tommie Eriksson and he was a really nice guy! Big fan of The Allman Brothers and Captain Beyond haha. He says in Europe they play 2 hour shows! I would love to see that here someday.

eat shit = fall down hard
it would have been insane had someone drunk fool shit the pit and then ate it hahahahhah!

Who were all the people shitting all day at Edison Lot? By the time I got there last night at 7pm, the shitters were full. To the top. Every single one.

I pissed in the urinal, held my breath, and used plenty of hand sanitizer.

oh.. I was worried you had to poop...
-
My post was asking who was shitting at the festival. I am curious as to the type of person who would shit in one of those in hot ass muggy weather at a metal festival. And there seemed to be shitloads of them. All shitting, all filling it to the brim. You guys started the shit talk, I figured I would chime in.
-
Im impressed, that like two people on here actually went to this thing, but the thread keeps going and going.
-
At least five of us went.
-
Ok . . . Reread, my sentence and say 5 instead, of 2.
-
And how is that different from any other show/festival that people talk about on here?
-
Oh nothing . . . my comment wasn't meant to be negative, I just found it fascinating that this thread about a festival geared towards that form of music could be talked about for so long. Like if there was a polka music festival and someone formed a thread and it was on page 10. I, would find that odd, as well.
-
Its America's biggest metal party of the year! Well...maybe Psycho (Las Vegas) is bigger now but its a fun event in our area worth talking about. I'm going to the MDF after-party show thing at Ottobar tomorrow even! You should come next year Walkie! For one of the days at one of the many participating venues. Or maybe we should get that Julian guy to come and do a play by play haha.
-
Yes, i would consider going next year. I enjoy, being exposed to music i don't know much about.
-
Ahhh julienne. That guy's such a cut up.
-

And do not let the name fool you; it is not all death metal bands. They also have grindcore, thrash, doom, stoner, sludge, and any other metal variety that you could desire.
-
Now, I am really intrigued.
