It seems that each month/minute a new Radiohead-esque band emerges from the slime...with cover art that could win the blue ribbon at any eighth grade art fair.
Clap Your Belle & Say Sebastian
Black Arctic Motorcycle Cuties
Death Cab For Monkey
The Interstrokes
The Decemberhives
any more..?
-
well BRMC, Death Cab for Cutie and Artic Monkeys have little if anything to do with Radiohead... and quite frankly the whole radioheadesque bandwagon has simmered down.
a more valid argument can be made for the emo/screamo clones or the bands ripping on joy division.
-
British Sloan Power
Modest Dismemberment Speed You Black Tigre
Bloc Mouse
-
I'd go with Black Rebel and Mary Chain.
-
We Are Cat Pornographers
New Power Scientists
-
built to spill mogwai
jets to brazillian girls
Queens of the Mclusky Age
guided by modest doves

For me most new shit is just that: shit. What comes out today just seems oh so very derivative as to be almost a complete ripoff of the past. Radiohead is an unknown quantity, but I read somewhere that their sound was rather derivative of XTC. So, because of that they are Band-X...as in Band-X sound just like Radiohead/emo wannabees.
BTW, XTC WAS orignial, at least the first two albums...until they fired Barry Andrews. Then they went and got all Beatle-y.
-
Belle & Sebastian doesn't sound like Radiohead, and they are not a "flavor of the month" band as you were suggesting in your post. They formed in 1996, around the same time Radiohead was just recording OK Computer. I suggest you take your crap elsewhere.

I wanna be cool like you. I'm gonna get a tattoo. I'm gonna tattoo my eyelids, yeah! It's gonna say BLOW ME

Your right, they're not even worthy of a flavor....period.

Broken Social Stars
Broken Social Feist
TV on the Death Cab
The Arctic Wolfmother
Nine Black Negroes
The White Parade

Rob,
You forgot to correct "Your right"...It should be "You're right". But I'm glad you corrected
your other error.
-
Neutral Milk Vanilli
Tapes 'n Foghat
Anne Eagles of Death Murray
Pavebenatar

Just to put things is perspective here.
Laura Zapam from another post:
"You've got me there. In all honesty, no I have never even heard a song by Radiohead...and that's just like I like it.
But I can say that I find instro metal bands much more so tolerable to the ear than here-today Brit-pop."

i know it's so much fun being a contrarian, and those band names you came up with are simply, flat-out, 100%, hi-larious (they made me laugh and laugh and laugh!) ... but once all the uncontrollable guffaws subsided, i realized that (a) none of the bands you conflated sound remotely like each other, and (b) you've never even heard any of these groups
you're such a valued member of this internet community!

This only works if the bands are similar -- ie, different versions of the same "sound of the moment", and these don't work based on that premise (nor does the first list)
- Sloan is NOTHING like British Sea Power
- Bloc Party and Modest Mouse? Have you listened to either band?
- Le Tigre and God Speed? Have you listened to either band?
This is just mish-mashing band names.
Now, if you were doing something like:
Clap Your Hi to Your Magic Mom
Bloc Monkeys
Brut Subway Editors
-
Laura turned into Roger who is Dupek. I'm 100% certain of this.

I can actually only tell who's who from the preview pane on the 9:30 site. For some reason, it shows the user's original username.
And now he's apparently the host of Blind Date...

i'm as big of an xtc fan as the next and yes in a sea of punk and prog rock they came off as orginial, but surely they didn't invent all by their lonesomes edgy pop songs with keyboards. garage rock bands were doing that in the 60s...
and if it would get boring if they made the same record over and over again, they themselves were somewhat bored when they released the dub versions of Go2..

Roger Lodge was the host of Animal Planet's Funniest home videos, as well as other nature documentaries like Elimi-Date.
That plus I kinda like the sound of Roger. Roger as you might be aware, is Cockney slang for 'shag'. And Lodge means dwelling, as in Shaque dè Amore, but I loathe having to explain myself.

say what you will about the "originality" of The Strokes, The Decemberists, Belle & Sebastian, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Interpol, Franz Ferdinand when they broken on to the scene they stood in stark contrast to whatever crap was being blasted from the airways or having "mass appeal". Which is likely why their careers will last longer than most unless of course the drugs, alcohol or record company do them in first.
-
They're still around?

I was wondering about Agent Orange, I bet if they were coming to the 9:30 Club, there would be more hype.
