Been a while since we all talked posters. What are ggw and grotty framing these days?
I just had this one framed - it will look great in my newly renovated basement

Is that Jay Ryan?
One of his old Fugazi posters was on eBay a few weeks ago. The bidding was at $250 with three days left.
I haven't bought much lately, but I did get some posters from Aesthetic Apparatus gallery shows and a Lucero gig:

Any good websites out there that sell concert posters? I have a few framed but always looking to add to the collection.

yes, I bought it from him at the Andrew Bird show....he was a really cool guy - I was $5 short but was chatting to him about posters in general and my collectiona nd his work and he said not to worry about it
I also bought this at the same show

so how much are you guys spending on framing? I have a pile of posters that are still in tubes because framing is so expensive, is there a cheap way that looks good?

it ain't cheap - I've been relying heavily on the 49.95 special at the Framing Studio in Van Ness for alot of my stuff
I've also tried frmaing some myself using DIY frames bought from Micheals but your poster needs to have the right dimensions and even that way glass for the frame can be pricey

Walmart or Michaels....Oh wait, you guys don't go to the big evil empire big corporation stores. Ok then, your probably not gonna find a cheap way to do this at all the underground framing shops.
-
yeah - get them done professionally - its pricey, but you can find places for under $40. There is place on Lee Highway out in Arlington that was running a special of $35 per frame. They did five or six of mine, and look great.
As far as local poster makers, I really like Anthony Dihle's work:

I have a bunch of standard Ikea frames that fit pretty well. Sometimes the dimensions don't match exactly, but it generally doesn't matter, either because it's a white poster border on a white background or the mat only cuts off a fraction of an inch from the sides or top and bottom.
I have a bunch of these (http://www.ikea.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?topcategoryId=15573&catalogId=10103&storeId=12&productId=12129&langId=-1&parentCats=15573*15705*15709), which I think are great.
Although I haven't used them myself, www.americanframes.com (http://www.americanframes.com) is widely recommended. You select the frame and mat color, give them the dimensions you want, and they send you the frame.
Otherwise, frame shops are always running specials and you can usually find a decent deal on a simple black frame with white mat.

The one in Arlington is actually cheaper. PM me and I can give you some rough directions on how to get there...and possibly their name if I can remember. I think its KM Custom Framing, but I could be wrong.

Thanks, I've got a poster coming down the pipeline for the Prefuse 73 and Edan show on June 1. Here's a few pics.
Edition of 73, 12"x34" 3 color screenpint.
Printed in Seattle at D&L Screenprinting
<img src="http://img376.imageshack.us/img376/6809/prefuse73versionalmostfinal3yb.jpg" alt=" - " />
<img src="http://img462.imageshack.us/img462/6844/ccprefuse738yh.jpg" alt=" - " />
These will be availible at the show (also afterwards on gigposters.com classifieds), also I'll have a bunch of smaller handbills to pass out.
You can check out my other stuff here:

And for frames, check out americanframe.com

I have a couple, the one I love is the one below, which when I have the time, money, and space will be framed:
<img src="http://www.gigposters.com/posters/TN_4097.JPG" alt=" - " />
-
this is my pride and glory, my favorite:
<img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v57/peachypunky/alkalinetrio-donnas-pf.jpg" alt=" - " />
the lovely folks at Paul Frank made just about a handful of those for some Donnas/Alkaline Trio Halloween shows in Chicago a few years ago, and mailed me one of the few. it's always great when they do band collaborations.
Cernoch. that's an awesome poster. nicely done.
-
I have to respectfully disagree....that Refuse/Eden poster is just out and out annoying.

Pay no mind to Mankie; he's just a surly old man.
The last poster he bought was for Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel at Dunstable Civic Hall in 1973.

I dropped $179 or so to have the guy at Eastern Market (7th st. S.E.) do this one. It looks awesome though with blue and green matting.

I LOVE that Wilco poster, but as I'm not a fan of the band, can't have it. Cuts out a lot of great posters for me...(not Wilco in particular, all bands I'm not for which I'm not a fan)

Yeah, I'd never buy a poster for a band I didn't like either.

Okay, this may be annoying, but I gotta take a shot. Calla said the VA framing place is at Glebe and Lee.
According to the Yellow Pages, there is no KH Framing there -- there are several, but closest is 1222 King Street, Alexandria.
Any of these sound familiar?

Sometimes it takes me a while -- clicked on the maps and this is the place at the corner of Glebe and Lee.
Does a poster special mean just a black frame, no mat?
THANKS

thinking about it - expensive though....

Oh I didn't mean to offend.....art is supposed to bring out emotions, and that one made me irritated for some reason. Doesn't mean it's crap, in fact I'd say it's a compliment for the simple fact it generated an emotion.
As for GGW's usual failed attempt at humour....I wish I had kept some of the posters I took down from the walls of Manchester back in the 70's/80's, I'd probably be able to make a few bob out of them now.

<img src="http://www.securebaltimore.com/monozine02/shop/images/godspeed2lrg.jpg" alt=" - " />
not a very good photo, but this is one of my favorite concert posters. I got one that was hanging in Atomic Books the day of the show, only to find them being sold at the show.
most of the cool screened posters for monozine shows are available at Monozine's Site (http://www.securebaltimore.com/monozine02/shop/category.cfm?Category=2&CFID=3454397&CFTOKEN=44704692)
oh yeah, i liked this one too:
<img src="http://www.securebaltimore.com/monozine02/shop/images/turbonegrolrg.jpg" alt=" - " />

I have the already mentioned Wilco poster.
This one:

This one:
<img src="http://www.postersnthings.com/posters/clash_rude_boy.jpg" alt=" - " />
and a GBV one I cant find a picture of (bartender/waiter guy, gbv album covers on all the liquor bottles). I've just been buying frames from Ikea and cutting the mats to fit, certainly not the most professional looking but not as expensive.
-
Yeah, I'd never buy a poster for a band I didn't like either.
That is some top-shelf logic right there. ;)

i love that one. i used to try all the time to buy one off of ebay, but never had any luck.
this is the one i'm most wanting to find (other than the gbv one above):

I've been trying to find this GBV t-shirt on e-bay. No luck. A friend of mine would LOVE this....

This is the GBV one, got it off ebay a year or so ago. It's oddly sized:
<img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v203/mandiapple/guidedbyvoices.jpg" alt=" - " />
I also have this Iggy Pop one, signed by Kozik:
<img src="http://www.zobeaux.com/KOZIK-3/new_pa63.jpg" alt=" - " />
eBay is good for that type of stuff, I got both those for cheap, but I think you have to look there pretty regularly to get a good find at a decent price.
-
This is the last one I had framed up:
<img src="http://www.emek.net/images/posters/emek_pixies.jpg" alt=" - " />
I bought it from Emek @ SXSW Flatstock show.
I've been spending a lot more than the prices mentioned - need to find somewhere in the $70 range: I've prob got 10 that I'd really like to get up.

It's the one poster I have that doesn't meet the criteria of a band/artist I really like...BUT I think the poster is amazing. Near perfect in my eyes.
-
I think the highlight of bumbershoot for me last year was the flatstock show....got my guided by voices one and a wilco one there that I really like
-
Man, framing is expensive. You guys weren't kidding. Just spent $50 to have this signed poster framed:

I'm in the slow process of unloading a lot of my Kozik, Hess and Coop posters if anyone is looking for their previous works (mostly from the 90s).
