Title: My Morning Jacket, 1/31
Post by: mitar on January 12, 2004, 08:47:00 pm
Hey, I've been into this band for a while and have never seen them in a real club....any thoughts?

Yeah, they suck!

 (Just my opinion.)

I'm sure this has been said numerous times before by others, but MMJ were the only band I've ever seen that I thought would break out into Freebird at any moment.  They tend to draw out their guitar solos.  Seeing as you're the fan, I'd suggest going to the show.

If you like MMJ, and you like guitar solos, and you like reverb, then you will like their show.

Freebird is bad news, but I really did like MMJ's set.

I am not a fan, but several people on this forum like them. If you like their album, then you will probably enjoy their show.

MMJ actually tend to stray from the albums a bit, they can get kind of "jammy".  I have seen them 3 times.  Twice I was pretty drunk and enjoyed them, once I was sober and left early. But as I have said before here, that was after Burning Brides had played, so most bands would have seemed inferior.  This board is one of the few places I see their live performance panned on a regular basis.

See em once, but for the love of God don't see em twice.  There's enough wanking in one performance for a lifetime.

They're also one of the hariest bands ever.  The singer is Cousin It of the south.

I heard a single from this group while working at the Gap during the 2003 Christmas Shopping Season. I heard about this on MTV and Maxim. I may check them out for the heck of it.

Hairier than Kings Of Leon?  I'll bet there are some good Spinal Tap moments during the show.

I'd probably pass on the show now:

Original lead guitarist Johnny Quaid and keyboard player Danny Cash have quit My Morning Jacket (http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/news/04-01/21.shtml)

"my country ass is now ready to go the fuck home."

seen them twice by accident and they played a third show that i showed up late to. dinosaur jr comparisons are way off the mark. if you like their studio stuff, go see them, their show is interesting, at least. not real into them myself

Built to Spill actually did that a couple of years ago at 930.  Despite my extreme distaste for Skynard, it was actually pretty good and impressive.

some songs should just never be covered.

   free bird is one

stairway to heaven is another (heard Guns N Roses do it in 1990)

i saw MMJ probably 10 times in Louisville before I came to DC.  I like 'em, but maybe its sentimental.
