So, whether its cause you like Exit Clov or you just want to come support me :D and the other board folks involved, you should come out. With the exception of the Thrills, there is nothing of value going on this Friday. So if you'e gonna go out, you might as well come here. And Sonick will be there, and you're all dying to meet him. Some other boardies will be there too...
I'm in!
ps- Exit Clov will also be playing on Feb.15th at the Black Cat!
-
Redsock, I'm planning on it, but have to play it by ear. Have cousins visiting, as well as a friend from San Fran and that may be my only night to hook up with them.
-
would love to go, but it's restaurant week, so i'm blowing my money on $30 dinners at fancy restaurants this week. although, if the red wine (which is not included in the price of dinner) hasn't gotten to me, i just might show up later in the evening.
-
so i'm blowing my money on $30 dinners at fancy restaurants this week.
which ones are you gonna try?
-
people in DC are so "busy" arent they?

I'm not sure, but I think cover is $3. Even Rhett can afford that. Speaking of which, there will be a Bluegrass band...

you've got to be kidding me. now, no one is coming!

I know, you're coming all the way down from Baltimore....no respect.

going to mendocino grille and occidental. also wanted to go to vidalia, but they were being secretive with their menu... have to make sure that it's not all seafood (or offers a decent non-seafood option) since the g/f doesn't eat seafood. otherwise, i'd go to oceanaire.

Nope, hetero engaged chick. So you assume everyone from San Fran is gay, huh. If I did that, Rhett would probably jump down my throat and cite some straight alt.country guys & gals he knows there.
-
no, I assume all your friends are gay men ;)
-
nope, got all kinds of friends. The only defining feature is we all drive SUVs with a MIMIMUM towing capacity of 6500 lbs. Any less is for pussies.

must be why so many of them are gay

actually I was referring to the "for pussies" part of the statement, not to be too vulgar, but gay men are clearly not "for pussies"
now that I have explained it, it is even funnier

Ah-ha, well you will be missed. And I think you'd much prefer the music being played at Staccato on friday over what's being played at 930.
-
So, from this, it's Redsock, sonick and DJ Trip or whatever FoGC's dj name is....

i won't be there.........but can i have a t-shirt...........?
-
If I make it, it'll be late -- 10, 11 o'clock.
-
Yes, I'll be making an appearance. It's only to get a t-shirt though. My wardrobe has fallen on hard times.

Well, if anyone I haven't met comes...I'll be the tall strapping yound lad in the blue BigYawn T-shirt. I hope all you maybe's make an appearance.
-
and just so you know, at 12am , to celebrate the launch of the site and all the joys it brings...we will be stopping the music and we will all have one big collective yawn!!!
have you ever heard 100+ people yawn all at once??? i doubt its something you would want to miss!!!
-
You're so optimistic -- 100 people!

we dont need your pessimistic attitude. I figure at least 5-10 people working there. at least 10 people from BigYawn. I am bringing 3 people. and the bands, thats already like 30.
people dont support local music in DC? or are they too busy? 100 people should never be hard to get.

Venerable,
You'll have to come by the DJ booth and say hi. I'd love to talk music with you (especially after seeing your requests for Atmosphere)...
-
Doesn't that routinely happen at Radiohead shows?

We will easily get 100 people. You underestimate a lot Bags...Say what you will of Exit Clov, the last time they played, there was a line out the door to see them. Plus the other two bands, who will bring loads of folks. Plus all the folks I'm bringin, and i know a lot of people. Thats not even talking about the army Markie will bing with him or the army of villagers hidden in Sonick's goatee. Or the masses that have seen BigYawn.net and would feel left out if they didn't come. I'm shooting for 200+ over the course of the night. Course Staccato isn't that big...fire-code limits might be broken tonite.

I think it's an excellent request. OJ were a great band and I definitely dig them. Even if I didn't, they've been such a major influence on U.K. guitar music over the last 25 years or so, how could I ignore them? Probably the only band more influential from the last 30 years on U.K. guitar music is The Smiths. You'll have to come Sunday night and hear for yourself what I play---so are you planning on coming?
Btw, thanks for not requesting any Uncle Tupelo. ;)

Geez, I wasn't being pessimistic, I think 100 people is a lot of people to get -- you don't get that many folks out to see regional bands at Velvet Lounge. Lighten up, everyone -- I think it will rock if you get 100 or more.
Has this been advertised outside of this site and bigyawn?

I know there's a crowd of indie music queers out there, but I don't know any of 'em. My group would be unlikely to attend such an event....alas. And hey, to make up for my Escalade days, I take the bus to Adams Morgan -- so there, Rhett! :p

word is spreading like wildfire, some guy from my office just mentioned he was going, totally unrelated to my going

in that case, I probably won't even make it in. Have fun, hipsters!

IT'S FUCKING 10 DEGREES OUT wind chill. Goddamn it, why don't you shut the hell up. I promise to never engage you in conversation again.
Region Wakes Up to Arctic Blast of Air
Low temperatures overnight didn't break any records in the Washington area, but residents are still waking up to an arctic blast of air. The National Weather Service says temperatures at Reagan and Dulles airports plunged into the mid-teens early Friday morning, with wind chills dipping below zero.
-
Sorry I yelled. My fault, I keep paying attention to him.
-
Thanks for warning me. I'll make sure I bundle up as I walk from the Woodley Metro to my Adams-Morgan apartment very soon. Thankfully, it's supposed to be 37 by the time we do our run tomorrow, and a balmy 40 degrees on the day of your walk over to Adams-Morgan for the Big Yawn party!

Redsock, awesome party, and over 100. I apologize.....just thinking that if the Deathray Davies only got 10, you might not get 100. My bad.
And great to meet more Board folk, though I'm always reticent to bring the board into my real life.......
PS, Markie, you have to let me buy you a beer for the fuckin' visa, dude. If I got one, I'd let you buy me a beer. Ditto LuLu, when she's out as well.
-
Had a great time, thanks Redsock. Nice to meet and hang out with Sonick, his girlfriend and Friend of Guy Chadwick as well.

i had a great time as well. it was great meeting some board folks, and i am glad pollard and markie are NO different in person! although i didnt get to ride in Bags' escalade, its ok. thanks for the brew as well, mr markie. Your Ben Folds CD is in the mail!
-
Thanks to all who came last night. It was a pretty good time Markie, I think you remember correctly. The 930 board table was by far the table with the most empty bottles on it. Makes me feel proud.
I wish I could have hung out with you all more...alas, that's the burden of playing host. Enjoy Atmosphere on Sunday, wish I could go.

Sorry I wasn't there to annoy Markie and Bagster. Sorry I wasn't there to tug on Sonick's goatee and tell him how beautiful he is. And sorry I missed Exit Clov in such an intimate setting. It was lights out by 11 Friday night.

Redsock, so sorry that I couldn't make it. I really wanted to but after working all week and having to drive to Bethesda to work on Saturday for my part-time job, it was just out of the question.
Damn, I wish DC weren't so far away for me!

Just a wild guess. I used to work in Bethesda on SAturdays at an SAT prep company back in my teaching days...

A good guess too but my days in Education are over. Too disgusted now to ever go back in any capacity.

redsock, sorry i couldn't make it out on friday, despite being at the restaurant before our reservation, we weren't seated until 9:15 and didn't leave the restaurant until after 11. . .will make the next one. . .
-
Little excuse, Bede. I didn't show up until after midnight, and had a good run at Staccato. ;)
PS, where was your dinner and how was it? I had a phenomenal lunch at Ortanique, and a really good dinner at Poste (which had half its menu available for Restaurant Week -- very cool of them).
-
went to menodcino grille. . .it was really good, but we started drinking at 7 and kept drinking all night. so, i was in a mood to go home at that point. :)
