From that venerated paragon of music journalism excellence, Rolling Stone:
TV On The Radio
Bowie's favorite band
The Boy Least Likely To
Catchy cuddle-rock
Rock Kills Kid
Modern English meets modern rock
Wolfmother
Heavy rock with garage influences
Nicole Atkins
Pretty folk pop with a sinister edge
The Whigs
Indie rock with a southern twang
Matt White
The Next James Blunt
Papoose
New York's hottest hip-hop MC
Bonde Do Role
Brazilian party starters
Daniel Powter
Sweetly groovy Motown-inspired pop
You know you want to read the whole article (http://www.rollingstoneextras.com/10bands/10bands.html)

A couple years late on TV on the Radio, no? But hopefully this means their new album is really good...
-
it didnt say 10 NEW bands. just 10 bands! :)

Dang, Wolfmother is at Fletchers on April 12. From Sydney, so it's not like I can hope for a DC date in the near future. Damn damn. Is Fletchers way over on the other side of B'more, and what are set times usually like on a weeknight?

TUES JUNE 6- WOLFMOTHER $13 mainstage 8:30 (on sale 4/7)

do bowie and david byrne spend 90% of their time crashing backstage parties to tell young bands how much they like them? i feel like every other article about some indie band includes a story about how bowie or byrne is "their biggest fan"

Yeah I remember when David Bowie was all over The Arcade Fire about two months after everyone already knew who they were.
The new TV on the Radio album should be magnificent though.

will have to check this guy out... however, the last artist that was touted as a motown throwback turned out to be more image over substance. had the vocal talent but the songs didn't even come close to motown quality..

A couple of tunes from the new album:
Playhouses (http://www.p0si.com/files/music/01%20Playhouses.mp3)
Snakes and Martyrs (http://www.marx.se/music/tvotr-04.mp3)

saw TV on the Radio a few years back when they opened for Firewater - I wasn't a huge fan of the EP, but live, they were incredible.

I've heard most of it, and it's pretty damn good. More accessible than their previous stuff, I think.

I really like Playhouses. Listened to that first and was excited and looking forward to hearing more.
Then I played Snakes and Martyrs and sorry to say, in my opinion, it's a real stinker.
I would have to hear more tunes like Playhouses for me to bother with buying it.
Thanks for posting the links.

I saw them open for the Pixies like a year and a half ago, I didn't really care too much for their live show, but that may have been because it was the first time I was seeing the Pixies and I really didn't give a shit regardless who the opener was.

I was at that show too. I thought TVOTR was pretty good, but better when I saw them later on their own. I like how the bass player never faces the audience.

I distinctly remember that. I also liked how the white guitar player was a total spazzbot.

You should still come to the Fletchers show, if you can. I can't wait to see them in such a small place.

God bless you Rolling Stone. Just as I had come to the morbid conclusion that my thirst for "catchy cuddle rock" would kill me, you provide hope that there is relief on the horizon. Thank you.

Yawn. If I want to listen to Black Sabbath, I'll listen to Black Sabbath.

Papoose is over rated.
