Title: This year I am thankful for...
Post by: vansmack on November 25, 2008, 04:42:00 pm
Jon Carson and David Plouffe, Virgin America, HTC, Netbooks, The Dew, The High Life, Zins, DirecTV, Windows Home Server, The Champions of Europe, The Barnacle, Gossip Girl, and the Rock Band series.  But most of all, that I live in a country where 66,882,230 people elected a new President.  My President.

i'm thankful for all the opportunities i've had this year to hear great music - in small dingy clubs to huge outdoor festivals.  i'm very thankful for all the great friends i've somehow managed to surround myself with.  oh, and HTC.  definitely thankful for HTC too.

you see, as an upstanding american, i would not do such a thing.  do you think the legion of left wing morons who actually did this for the last 8 years had fun?

perhaps a better way of putting it would have been to say "Our President" instead of "My President."  "my" implies the ability to make an individual choice- that is to say, there may be no logical error in manimtired saying he isn't his president, simply because manimtired didn't pick obama as his president.  but obama certainly will be the president of the united states and, as even sweetcell was able to grasp, we are all american citizens and he will be our president.

my partner, my job, friends, my ability to eat food and poop it out, phish reunion with tickets and hotel lined up, this place, ween's live at cat's cradle, video games, outside, inside, iron chef (original, not that horrible american version) . . . oh yeah, alternate levels of reality where the only exit/enter is by portals or people you should really stay away from.

that made me think of the scene in raising arizona where john goodman and william forsythe run after nicholas cage and holly hunter screaming "wait, he's our baby too!"

i'll come up with my thankful list sometime soon. . .sneak peek- a baby on the way and those five old men sitting across the street from the capitol.    :)

So many things...

My new scarf, my girlfriend, the Detroit Red Wings, Jessica Rose finding steady work, Lifetime's fabulous miniseries on Coco Chanel, relatively good health, the Nate/Jenny relationship on Gossip Girl, our new 1000 thread count sheets, Michigan's boosters having the money to buy out the abortion that is RichRod, the upcoming Vampire Weekend shows...

My better half, Obama winning, a friend or two, and all the great concerts I saw this year..This really was a great year concertwise for me... And thanks to the new camera I bought in May I actually have a record of most of them....

 Financially/"career"wise a very poor year...disconcertingly so..

You know what? While I still stand by my belief that spending all the capital the democrats have gained under Bush II on Obama was a mistake, I am absoultely glad we no longer have a Republican in office. The prospect of Biden and Hillary being the VP/Secretary of State has me downright giddy. As does Napolitano as AG.

I'm thankful for family, friends, and health; for living in a great city; and for living in a country that made a difficult choice to do the right thing.

Oh, and I'm also thankful that in real life, I rarely have to deal with conversations interrupted by Republican and libertarian boors.

I would say Manimtired fits the classic qualifications of troll.

Bede, I have no trouble with opposing viewpoints, but I don't have much patience for people who can't talk about anything other than politics, and that includes people I agree with.  There's a time and a place (and a thread) for everything.

I don’t know how I did it
But I did not hear wonderful Christmas time once!

For this I am thankful

While that's generally regarded as the most awful holiday song I think I detest 'Last Christmas' even more.

I don’t know how anyone can detest Last Christmas! It’s literally a perfect song.

 🤷‍♂️

Ive always thought of it as a Boxing Day song. Guy gives girl his heart for Christmas and then the very next day she re-gifts it.

I am an unironic lover of Christmas music (it's almost all I listen to after Thanksgiving), and while I don't love Last Christmas, it's alright.  But i detest that Jimmy Eat World cover...why skip over all of the verses!!!! It's madness!!!!

I don’t know how anyone can detest Last Christmas! It’s literally a perfect song.

I dunno. I thought it was a fine song until I kept hearing it this year and I realized how repetitive it is. Maybe I was just in a bad mood at the time.
And the self-appointed 'Queen of Christmas' can rot in hell. Everyone knows the queen will always be Darlene Love.

When she was on Colbert she denied ever calling herself that.

That's the thing. She didn't have to. She just is.

Anyway, back to the topic at hand. Not a lot to be thankful for this year but I'm sure glad I had nice diversions with my hometown sports teams. So great to see a competitive Orioles team after all the losing.
