I see that Beets beat me to the announcement but figured lots of discussion will ensue so thought I'd take it out of the Just Announced thread awhile.
Peter, you dick.
Feel sorry for the rest of the band and others professionally connected since this will impact their lives as well. A lot of them, like so many others in today's messed up economy, were probably really needing the income. Even if the US tour goes on, you know he probably won't be able to leave the country. Or maybe they just won't let him back in. Sucks all around for the band, the fans, his family, and even for the world of music. Although the gossip rags and some lawyer will benefit. I tend to think the other driver will be okay and damage covered. At least, I hope so.
Peter Murphy single-handedly destroys Bauhaus tour. (http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/lanow/2013/03/bauhaus-singerdui-arrest.html?utm_medium=referral&utm_source=t.co)

Yes, he is a super massive asshole.
Some good stuff in this thread. (https://twitter.com/NedRaggett/status/313819413138780161)

Best line of the article. "Murphy denied drinking alcohol that day, adding that he had only taken his regular prescription pills for depression"
-
Come on! It was not a Bauhaus Tour!
Was there someone in the car he hit?
I'm betting he'll be touring...
-
well that's depressing
even more depressing is picturing peter murphy, ethereal human vampire, ghostly spectre of the night, driving a subaru forester
-
Um Peter Murphy is not responsible for the other members in the band. The other guys are Love and Rockets they can tour as them. Or tones on tails. Tones on tails tour would be better anyway. I don't see why a US tour could not go on as he won't need to leave the country. Really is Bauhaus that big of a draw today?

Atomicfront you have no idea what you're posting about so shut up.

i forgot this is the nostaglia board.

Atomicfront you have no idea what you're posting about so shut up.
he never has any clue what he's posting about, but when has that ever stopped him?
atomicfront, lemme help you: Jag wasn't referring to the other members of Bauhaus, she was talking about the musicians he hired for this tour (and the support crew, drivers, etc). touring is a rough business and something like a Bauhaus tour doesn't come around very often. folks hired for this tour likely turned down other gigs in preparation for this tour and have spent a lot of time prep'ing... and now not only will they not get paid, they've turned down other jobs that would have helped them pay the bills. for musicians that just scrape by, this kind of thing can be disastrous. bankruptcy is a real threat... but lemme guess, you don't care.
-
but why would the tour be cancelled?
-
Because he's not only the singer and starring attraction, he's also the busdriver.
-
A subaru forester is particularly effective at carrying coffins and capes that really shouldn't be folded.
-
but why would the tour be cancelled?
Possibly but not necessarily. Too soon to know at this stage. For all we know, he may not be allowed to leave the state or could stay in jail. Maybe they'll toss him out of the country. Or, most likely, he'll be forced into rehab which, at best, may postphone the tour.
If the tour does go on, I would bet anything this would make it your last chance to see any kind of Peter Murphy tour in the US ever again because they probably would deny him a visa for future visits or maybe he'd choose to stay out altogether.
Interesting note: Way back in the early '80s I knew a girl in Lancaster who was friends with the girl he married. Her father was a judge. Wonder if he's still married to the same woman and how that relationship is going and if said father-in-law will intervene?
Was there someone in the car he hit?
Yes, read the article I posted in the lead-in to this thread.
-
what Bauhaus tour?
who said it was a Bauhaus tour?
-
The guy who is wrong about everything.
-
If California let that a-hole Nick Oliveri tour after an armed stand-off with police, I bet Murphy gets to do his tour.
-

the title of the thread is Bauhaus tour 2013 or not. Is it my fault that the thread title is wrong? I knew peter murphy was touring..I assumed there was a non-announced bauhaus tour in the works by the title.

You are right, it does say so in the thread title. For all intents and purposes, it was referring to the music and assumed it was understood. Sorry to mislead. I can change it if it bothers others too much.
-
I really think that unless he has a prior criminal history he will do the tour...
I also think with decent lawyers he'll get off without much trouble... he was on some medication, disoriented etc...hit a car.. didn't realize it and kept going
what is more surprising is that someone would follow him from glendale to los angeles.. why would anyone do that?
-
but the meth in the car wasn't his
and yeah, subaru forester - super weird

Does Peter Murphy live in LA? Otherwise the Subaru can't actually be his.. they say he lives in Turkey..
What is up with the Bauhaus obsession with LA...if Murphy lives in LA then they all live there now.
I wonder if the guy following him wanted his meth back?
-
It's hilarious that people seem most upset about the fact that he was driving a Subaru. I guess they were expecting that he'd be driving something out of Road Warrior or Christine. Or that he'd just turn into a vampire bat and fly off to get where he needs to. That's the danger of being a singer who is perceived to be like a cartoon villain. When people find out that you actually take your coffee with cream it's such a letdown.
-
yeah..now I note he is still jailed apparently...
if he can't even make bail and is considered a potential flight risk that does not bode well for the tour..
I would have thought 500,000 bail would not be a problem for him..
-
What I found most amusing about this article is that a washed-up has-been goth-rocker was driving a Subaru Forrester. Oh wait, never mind. I guess I'm late to the thread.

The last time I bought anything by Peter Murphy was his "Final Solution" single in 1985. So Bauhuas was already broken up by then. So I am guessing he is quite old so the Subaru is a good fit.
-
If he's in LA only temporarily I would think he just got there (one of the articles cites jet lag as an excuse being used) and is there for rehearsals... might need to haul some equipment around...

or he is old and enjoys driving around in subaru. I used to be a goth and now I drive around in a volvo and I am not nearly as old as Peter. Maybe by the time I am his age I will move on to the Forrester.
-
I used to be a goth
hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
That is leagues funnier than his Subaru

This was posted about an hour ago:
"Peter has been released on zero bail and a statement will be made shortly. In the meantime thank you to everyone for all your kind words and wishes."
No other details as of yet. Bodes well for the tour, I guess. At least, I hope so.

More on the story. (http://www.glendalenewspress.com/news/tn-818-0319-gothrocker-peter-murphy-pleads-not-guilty-to-hitandrun-dui-drug-possession,0,1278751.story)
Pretty much a rehash of the earlier story but does contain new info.
Very surprised he didn't have to put up any bail money. Can't help but wonder if dear father-in-law pulled a few strings.

keep in mind also that the LAPD has been known to mess things up...

He's married to a turkish woman.

Must be a different wife then.

it is pretty bad when you get a hit and run while on drugs and they lower the charges.
-
let me guess . . . youve never heard of lindsay lohan either.
-
I realize what it looks like for Peter, but whatever happened to innocent until proven guilty? Jeez you goths are cynical.
-
bearman . . . you do realize this is america. "innocent until guilty"?
oh thats a good one.
-
Money talks. The lawyer probably presented a case about the financial impact on others dependent on Peter doing the tour.
Personally, I'm not making a judgement on whether his personal outcome was fair or not because we all know the law too often is based on who can and will pay rather than what is fair. Also, only know what's been in print and that too can be slanted in either direction.
I just know that the man's image of cool has been greatly damaged with those photos.
-
He didn't pay anything... people have a right to make a livelihood and not be jailed for these kind of charges ....it is a charge not a finding of fact!
I think the press will likely help him... more press.. and lets face it in rock "stars" this kind of behavior is not that uncommon.... and peter murphy in the news before a big US tour i think will help his ticket sales..
-
He should serve jail time if he is convicted of hit and run while on drugs. And he should have a high bail as he is not a US resident.

Oh, you can be sure that he or someone else (label maybe) paid that lawyer big time!

LOW TICKET WARNING for Peter Murphy Celebrates 35 Years of Bauhaus at U Street Music Hall on 5/4! ticketf.ly/XBUXGQ
-
Ok I finally get it after all these posts. Peter Murphy is touring doing Bauhaus songs. Geez why didn't someone just say that?
-
ok the low ticket warning convinced me to buy tickets for this
