Title: Any good shows this July?
Post by: bigyellow100 on June 26, 2008, 09:15:00 pm
Are there any good shows in the area this July?  I've looked through some schedules, but nothing jumps out at me.  What are some bands that are good that I've might have overlooked who put on good shows?

If I were you, I'd go for the Brazilian Girls and the ridiculous George Clinton/Yaz/Ting Tings run at the club.

I wouldnt call it awful, but some of the tracks are defintely underwhelming live.  The get into an almost jam band/semi-ambient groove with no vocals on a couple of songs (interludes?  I didnt recognize them from the cd or EP), and they lose a lot of the energy in the process.  Most of the tracks are good fun though.

Thanks for the replies.  I've seen No Age open for Liars in SF earlier this year and I'll pass...I can't believe I overlooked the Boris date.  I'll definitely be there.  As for the Ting Tings...that's a close call.  I listened to the album and wasn't impressed.  I then saw a live performance of That's Not My Name on Jools Holland on youtube, which was pretty good, so I dunno about that.  Spiritualized seems pretty sweet though, so I might check him (them?) out.

Oh and Frightened Rabbit on Monday at the Black Cat seems pretty good.  And Burning Brides tonight...Anyone going?

Not sure if I can make it to this show since I'm already squeezing Spiritualized in between work obligations but I really, really want to see Ports Of Call.

Kind of weird that Tommy moved the Popnoise Fest to Baltimore as this was always a Philadelphia thing. Maybe it's just the road version. I'll find out soon enough.

Popnoise Fest is proud to present:

 the opposite sex
 the lost patrol
 stellarscope
 ports of call
mythmakers (ex members of the offering)

 Saturday July 26th

 live at
 the metro gallery
 1700 North Charles Street
 Baltimore, MD 21201
shoegaze, indie rock, dreampop, psych being spinned between sets.

 Starts at 8PM
