40 years old today. The central figure of the most fallacious impeachment ever.
I wouldn't doubt that some of the younger lurkers have no idea who she is (click the pic to find out).
So, what else makes you aware of your age and however advanced it seems?
-
The age of the Beatles and The Rolling Stones
-
old enough to remember watching Nixon resigning on all the tv sets when we were in Sears. young enough to have no clue why he would be resigning.
-
the missus reminds me how old i am on a daily basis, it seems sometimes. the other day she had no idea what a Walkman was.

How much younger is she?

in her 20's, yes (but just barely). admittedly this particular case could have been due to her relatively rural and sheltered upbringing. but still...

Hillbillies had tape decks in their hot rods. Come on.

i remember being in school and watching the space shuttle blow up. everything else, was a blur.
-
I remember when AIDS didn't exist, at least in the mainstream media.
-
yes . . . i remember when ryan white, changed everything.
-
I remember Elvis dying. I didn't quite understand the significance of the guy but I could see that my dad was sad and my mother was just devastated.

I still get misty, and am now because it's been years since I saw it, when I remember this:

-
what does that have to do with ryan white? how odd of you . . . but you are odd, so there is that.
if i dont stop getting the top of pages, good lord and gravy.
-
It was my watershed 'AIDS awareness' moment. I'm not saying it's the best one but it's the one I had.
-
I remember when TRL was just Total Request with Carson Daly.
Man.

I enjoyed this TV show.
wow, what a flashback. this show was produced in my hometown (or close enough), i knew one of the actors on YCDTOTV.
-
Truth: "[A] rock life spent ignoring Big Star and Pere Ubu and listening to The Beatles and the Stones loads of times over and over is a blinkered and diminished one."
The above is from this pretty good essay: Rock Of Ages: Mick Jagger At 70 & The Rise Of Pop's Elders (http://thequietus.com/articles/12913-rock-of-ages-mick-jagger-at-70).

And I have no idea what the show is.
-
I wondered about those accents for years as a kid. Then I found out it was produced in Canada.
Alanis Morrisette was on it for a bit.

i remember seeing star wars on the opening day with my family, and it was my brother's birthday. i think i was four or five or something. we went to mcdonalds afterward and i had lightsaber battles with other kids that had seen the movie, with french fries throughout the restaurant. bliss. pure bliss.

I remember watching John Kennedy saluted his father's casket as it passed by on its way to Arlington Cemetery. Back then I thought it odd.
-
are you the real ratbastard?

I like how walky gets excited when random people post.
-
im trying to figure out who my fav randomite is. i think it is nkotb.
-
This is the real Rat Bastard. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cuGg6NaY8eA)

You mean John Kennedy Jr? I wonder if anyone saluted his casket.

I remember when TRL was just Total Request with Carson Daly.
I remember when Carson Daly was just a late night shift DJ at KROQ in LA.
-
I first heard of him when he took over MTV's summer daytime programming. Think they were still airing videos regularly.

Michael Stipe makes me feel old.
Here is a photo of him around the time when I first saw him perform live:

Yup, people age over several decades, it's true.
-
I'm old enough to once have foolishly thought that Magic Hat made good beer.
-
michael stipe then - looks like a stoner loser who is a roadie for the grateful dead or phish.
michael stipe now - fucking hot and older hot and style hot and serious hot and established hot and manly hot and cool glasses hot and knows what to do with that cock hot.
-
I watched this all the time in first grade...

And for reference ( he has aged better than stipe)

-
Why, because he has (older men always look stupid with long) hair?
I'm going to agree with Walkonby. Stipe looks better now.
-
get out of here! stipe looks like shit.. he has for like 20 years when he turned into a human lightbulb..
Stipe really looks like Peter Gabriel does now... not a compliment... he looks old for his age

Stipe is 10 years younger but looks 20 years older.

As for old guys looking stupid with long hair I guess you are right. There is no way this guy would ever be able to find a chick:

I would put Axl in the hasn't aged well category.
-
I'm sorry, but that (lack of a) haircut looks stupid on a guy his age. Johnny Depp as well. They both look much better with shorter hair. To say nothing of the white V-neck t-shirt with a suit jacket.

That's the most 2005 looking haircut I've seen since, oh about 2005.
Also James Ford (not #that# James Ford).

My wife loves this guy Father John Misty. So in 2 years he will be to old for long hair and he will have to cut it? That would be good. I don't think she would like him as much with short hair.
I think Jim James looks better with long hair than short hair and he is 35. I think your list might be wrong. Maybe you should just decide how to look on your own.
-
are you the real ratbastard?
Yes
-
my thoughts on hair
there are a few factors at play:
1. men as they age lose their hair.. A LOT of men..so of course these men are going to argue about how great short hair is...they have no choice! its a natural defense...
2. long hair has always been associated with hippies and rebellion and kids and rock stars etc etc.. its not considered appropriate to be an older man with long hair...its just not viewed as professional but rather than say to themselves "I keep my hair short due to peer pressure and in order to fit in at my job" people ratiionalize that long hair in men looks terrible.. sometimes its easy to lie to oneself........ i'm also reminded of how post 9-11 hair seemed to get shorter very quickly...
3. longer hair is higher maintenance.. people not willing to put in time are going to rationalize that they look better with short hair..
i guess what i'm saying is that when people say they think long hair is stupid their view is really being influenced/formed by above even if they don't realize it or want to admit it...
personally i'm pro-long hair.. short hair in men is so boring.. its like taking hair out of the equation.....are there men who look great with short hair? sure.. but few... can i find pictures of people who look like shit with long hair? of course
and think about it this way... why should long hair be any different in men than women?

There is a peculiar notion that elegant plumage and fine feathers are not proper for the male when actually
that is <a href="http://youtu.be/6v1IsOQhEH4>the way things are[/url] in most species.

At Newport this year Beck was the last artist to play. Lumineers were right before him and after they finished there was a mass exodus of the crowd. We were able to walk right up 15 minutes later and be 10 rows of people back right in the center.
I realized that Beck fans are basically in the 32 to 40 age group. All the younger people left and all the older people left. I had to stay because my wife is 35. Weird how someones fans just are in one small age group.
-
Weird how someones fans just are in one small age group except for the Mountain Goat.

Mountain Goats fans were thin dudes in their early 20's with big glasses.
-
in addition few countries have men generally keeping their hair so short as the US..it really comes from the whole militarization of the culture....
take men in Italy.. they work on their hair and they look good
nobody ever accused American men of being good looking or sexy and their boring short hair doesn't help.
American men are also so terribly short...ugh..
-
ive had enough, this is my prayer
that ill die livin just as free as my hair

I remember Elvis dying. I didn't quite understand the significance of the guy but I could see that my dad was sad and my mother was just devastated.
When I was a kid, I remember hearing that Elvis died. All I remember is my friend told me "the found rugs in his stomach" (that is what I heard) and for a while I can remember thinking. What did Elvis do...did he cut them up and eat the rugs in little pieces or did he just he just try to eat a rug whole and that's what killed him.
-
I remember Patrick Swayze dieing... Never forget...
-
I spent this past weekend at Lollapalooza. I'm feeling somewhat old right now.

Until I was 14, Pinochet was the only president of my country I knew...

I was at band camp (!) when he died - I was upset as Elvis was my first concert ever in 1970something - I was the 13th caller to 13Q AM in Pittsburgh - it was awesome and I was hooked for life on live shows. I know it sounds corny, but if you make it to Memphis, the Graceland and Sun Studio tours are totally worth it. Yes, I am ancient.

I went to Memphis and I saw Graceland and Sun Studio which I agree are both worth seeing. Actually must sees for people who love rock music. Plus go to Beale Street and see where Martin Luthur King was shot. Beale Street isn't as cool as Broadway in Nashville but I was able to find one small bar where someone was doing original blues music.
-
My first CD ever purchased was Sade
Well at least you had good taste once.
My first CD was by Flesh For Lulu. I didn't have a CD player but some record company Rep gave it to me. When I complained about the lack of CD player someone gave me a KMFDM record.
-
My first CD ever purchased was Sade
Mine was U2 War. I also think I won Jethro Tull Aqualung from DC§101
-
mine was YES 90125 ... AMAZING sounding...this would have been the original German made import for the US market..
this CD sold me on CDs but I thought they would all sound like that and boy was I wrong

For my birthday in 5th grade (1982) my dad bought me a boom box. He took me to the pawn shop (i'm not joking) and let me pick it out. I got a sony. for my birthday that year I got the following tapes from friends and older brothers/sisters:
Squeeze - singles 45's and under
Squeeze - East side story
Eddie Grant - Killer on the Rampage
David Bowie - Changes ONe
there were more that i can't remember. But that was the year i started really digging music.
-
my first music purchase . . . was thriller and quiet riot. on tape. i was in the fifth grade.
-
The first album I ever bought was "Rhinestone Cowboy" by Glen Campbell. First single I bought was "You sexy thing" by Hot Chocolate.
-
I had 45's of Michael Jackson's "The Wiz" and Queen's "Bicycle Race" (though the B-side was "Fat Bottom Girls," which I didn't come to appreciate until much later. Come to think of it, maybe "Bicycle Race" was the B-Side - who knows when you're 6).
My first album was Synchronicity by the Police.
My first tape was a double purchase - Van Halen's 1984 and Huey Lewis and the News' Sports for my 10th birthday. It was the first time I didn't ask for Star Wars action figures for my birthday.
My first CD was New Order's Substance.
EDIT: Just a little bit of investigation solved the question:
"Bicycle Race" is a single by the English rock band Queen. It was released on their 1978 album Jazz and written by Queen's frontman Freddie Mercury. It was released as a double A-side single together with the song "Fat Bottomed Girls"."
-
first tape: bryan adams, "reckless"
first cd: ozzy, "no more tears"
-
Mine was U2 War. I also think I won Jethro Tull Aqualung from DC§101
First LP I ever owned was given to me by a friend - Def Leppard Pyromania. First LP I ever bought was VH 1984.
-
First show you made out with a random chick or dude?
I would say it was a Romeo Void show in 1984 at Girards in Baltimore. Some girl asked me to dance and then...
-
first tapes are above
first lp was Frampton Comes Alive, given to me by my older juvenile delinquent brother
first cd I bought was the first Misfits best of, called Collection I
But the earliest records I remember spinning on my own were from the family collection in the living room:
Rubber Soul and Meet the Beatles
Bookends and Bridge over Troubled Water by Simon and Garfunkle
Endless Summer by the Beach Boys.
I've loved all 3 acts ever since.
I lost the big V listening to Walk Among Us by the Misfits
My wife walked down the isle to Ladies and Gentleman we are floating in space.
First concert was Prince on the Purple Rain Tour.
-
First concert I went to by choice was Missing Persons. I tried to get tickets to that Purple Rain tour but they kept selling out.
-
how does anybody remember their first cd. good. lord. wait a minute . . . wait a minute . . . mine was, no wait, its gone.
-
how does anybody remember their first cd. good. lord. wait a minute . . . wait a minute . . . mine was, no wait, its gone.
I remember because cd's were a pretty exotic item at the time...was mostly into punk and hardcore and those bands def were not putting out cd's yet, so when the misfits released one it was kindof a big deal....to me.
-
i dont remember last year . . . so theres that.
-
I remember because the people made fun of me because I didn't have a CD Player. I don't have one now either. Except in my car.
-
I knew I was getting a cd player for my birthday, so I bought a handful of cds at once, so I'd have something to play when I got the player. I think this was 1984. My first ones were:
The Psychedelic Furs - The Psychedelic Furs
Laurie Anderson - Big Science
David Bowie - ChangesOneBowie
The Moody Blues - Days Of Future Passed
-
Cant decide how "old" I am.
on the one hand....I missed my first show last night. Show that I had a ticket to, that is. Old age? Maybe.
on the other hand....I'm driving up to the Jersey shore to catch the next night of the tour. I have to drive back afterwards. Haven't done anything like this in 7-8 years. Dumb? Probably.
Not acting my age, either way.
-
The first show I missed that I had ticket to was "We have a fuzzbox and we are going to use it". I think that was quite a while ago so I don't think age is the main concern.
-
I'll be 44 next month. Also, got carded last month. WIN!
-
when i shave . . . i get carded for asking for a pack of matches at seven eleven. win.
