Title: World Cup 2014
Post by: hutch on December 06, 2013, 12:38:46 pm
draw starting....

hard to imagine Brazil not winning the World CUP at home...although it has happened ...

I would expect, as usual, for the US to get screwed with the draw and refs (during the games of course)...

still so ticked off about the US letting Mexico in...

the seeding is weird... a team like Uruguay that barely qualified is a top seed? the whole thing is weird...FIFA made changes to the draw procedure only like two days ago... always so transparent...

Or we're just not very good because less than 1% of our top athletes pursue a career in the sport.

Jesus. Killsaly, if you're out there, I apologize. WWE >>>>>>>>>>> soccer.

the US actually is pretty good.. if you look at the fact that the world has like 200-300 countries and the US has played in every World Cup going back to 1990... not too shabby... and finished first in Concacaf qualifying..

but having watched the US the past few World Cups I've seen plenty of cases where the refs have been all too happy to screw the US over..

boy that chick really has her tits hanging out..

and I'm actually optimistic about the US... we're getting better... and no country has as high a percentage of young kids playing soccer as the US....

I've lived all over the world and I've never seen anywhere but the US where you go out on a Saturday or Sunday and the parks are all full of little kids playing soccer..

the MLS, mediocre as it is, is fairly succesful.. expanding to I think 22 teams.. I think it had like 10 when it started in the 1990s.... Seattle's average draw I think is over 50,000 per home game.. not many teams in the world can say that...

Please list along with their population, in order, the countries in CONCACAF. Please, then, also cite the US' record since 1990 against teams that have won a World Cup in actual competitions. Thanks.

absolutely....especially portugal....

I resent the stupid way FIFA does their seeding... I mean there is no way Colombia and Uruguay should have been top seeds...Uruguay barely qualified...they finished 5th in like a group of 10 during qualifiers played over 2 years..  and Switzerland as a top seed?

I agree, I'm a much bigger fan of this kind of behavior at sporting events.

one person gets drunk and beats up another drunk person . . . compares to riots and shotguns and military helicopters and explosions and moving games from stadiums to stadiums and warfare and beheadings and alligators and wormholes?

ok.

I completely agree with this. Why don't we use American Exceptionalism for something good for once: disband the US Men's and Women's soccer teams and pull all funding to youth soccer on the grounds we find the sport gauche or something. Lets embrace the fact that soccer is terrible and we won't stand for it and have no interest in winning the juice boxes and orange slices that, no doubt, constitutes the trophy for international soccer competitions.

Anyway I hope Germany wins the bracket.

Why would you want your own country to lose?

Furthermore, I'm sure you'd be quite scared to visit Ghana.

I like Germany better than the US.  It is safer, cleaner, better laws and they have better beer.  Most of my relatives live there.  And actual good German  players play on German teams.  Good American players dont' even play in the US.  Why would I give a poop about the American team.  Bayern Munchen Uber Alles.

You might be right about Ghana..I will have to do some research.

USMNT victories can only increase the interest in soccer in this country. I actively hope they lose every match they play. And by "actively," I mean "if I am somehow made aware they are playing, I hope they lose but do not watch the shitheap that is soccer to see if they actually do."

Next door neighbors are from Ghana and are super nice and friendly.
You can get dramatic taste of Ghana from Discovery.

You can get a taste of their food in DC.

I like the restaurant, seems authentic to my neighbors.

fair enough but you made your point long ago! and you got to admit that for people who like soccer it has to be tiring that every time one broaches the topic he has to hear from Bubba about how its pansy sport or something..

I mean what do you want me to say to you? You hate soccer? Great. Not every human being can like it but more do, in more countries, than any other sport...

Go hang out with Bubba and have a good time.

There you go! That's more the spirit... ;D

ALthough in the interests of full disclosure I have to admit that I root for Argentina first and the US second.. I just can't help it... although I'm a big big US supporter...I would say if Argentina played the US my brain would root for the US but my heart would want Argentina to win..

So you can trash talk me already as Germany beat Argentina 4-0 the last world cup!... one of the more embarassing losses.. most pathetic days ever.... and beat Argentina the WC previous to that one... Germany has kicked out Argentina from the past two World Cups...
