Wouldn't a list of NHL Free Agent signings be a more apropos celebration for Canada Day than a mixtape?

What about that song by The Tragically Hip about the hockey player who disappeared?
"50 Mission Cap"
...Bill Barilko disappeared that summer,
he was on a fishing trip.
The last goal he ever scored
won the Leafs the cup.
They didn't win another until 1962,
the year he was discovered...

very true
heres a few Capitals notes
Kolzig signs with Tampa Bay
Huet signs with Chicago
Theodore signs with Washington

Wings resigned Stuart at a very reasonable 3.75 for 4 years, and got Ty Conklin to battle for the backup slot.
Campbell to Chicago (56.8 million over 8)
Rolston to Jersey
Darcy Tucker to Avs
Ducks resign Corey Perry for insane $$
Pitkanen traded for Cole
Hossa and Sundin are still out there and rumours have both of them getting offered 10+ million per. Some talk of Boston offering Hossa a max contract 11.3 per for 7. Then again, same rumormills said Campbell wouldn't sign for under 70 million so...
-
RFA rules suck
Vancouver offers Backes 2.5 mill per, St. Louis matches, just drives salaries up

LOL. Boston is always "in the mix" for these high priced free agents and never sign em. Even when there were millions after the trading deadline! The only decent players we've had in 10 years were out of the draft.
-
Wade Redden to Rangers for 6 years at 6.5 million per.
What the heck is up with these salaries. Wade Redden and Brian Campbell are making Nick Lidstrom money and neither are fit to pick up that guy's jockstrap. There's no wonder some of these teams get nowhere when they throw this kind of cash at merely good players.
Seriously, Wade Redden, 6.5million per.

When I think of Canada I think of Molson Canadian, the Million Dollar club in Windsor, Don Cherry, Tim Hortons . . .
but first and foremost I think of Fozzie namechecking Saskatchewan in The Muppet Movie . . .

As if Detroit is not good enough, give em Hossa why dont you!
-
Boy, sure hope some Pittsburgh fans want to show up and tell me how great the Hossa trade was now. What a kick to the crotch.
Guess he wanted to play for a contender for once.

one year for $7.45? someone needs a new agent

We pay no one more then Nick Lidstrom. Sounds like someone wants to win a cup badly. He turned down crazy money.
Zetterberg-Hossa-Holmstrom
Datsyuk-Franzen-Filppula
Cleary-Draper-Maltby
Hudler-Samuelsson-Helm/Kopecky/McCarty
Lidstrom-Rafalski
Kronwall-Stuart
Lilja-Lebda/Chelios
Jeez, man.

i have never hated detroit more

just proves that crosby can turn a guy from playoff choker to starving for a cup in 3 months

If I wasn't at work, I'd be wearing my sweater and throwing so much champagne around it'd be ridiculous.
An Islanders fan friend of mine called to congratulate and said the only team that could stop them was the Avalanche. I was like "uh, Colorado looks like crap, wtf?" and he said, "No, an actual avalanche. It'd half to break half of your players' legs, though." I thought that was pretty funny.
If they actually played Hossa-Zetterberg-Datsyuk on one line outside of the powerplay (they won't), it'd push 300 points for the season. Crazy.

I heard Malkin goes weeks without bathing, and the prospect of another season having the locker next to the guy was just too much to bear.
It's all rumours though, so who knows?
-
if hossa was american, id buy that
i wish him well, and just hope he can still get a large contract after a season away from his playoff mentor, sidney crosby
-
i'm just glad to see him and Cole out of the Eastern Conference. My Bruins havent won a playoff series in 10 years so even if they made it to the finals and got swept, it would be a sweet season for me!
anyone else wanna leave the East? Mats? Jagr?

Edmonton, Rangers, Pittsburgh are the big three getting mentioned, probably in that order, so there's a chance.
Sundin could be taking the 2 years/20million in Vancouver too.
Man, the west would be packed if those two moves went down.
