Evidently some guy got fired from the band for being a dick and now he is mad at Wayne.  That is what I got out of reading about it.

I love that the biggest Landover NFL honk on here is the person to respond and ask. Couldn't have scripted it better.

Basically Coyne is friends with Oklahoma's tea-party nutjob governor, whose daughter is in a band. The daughter takes multiple photos in Native American headress. A Native American group calls out the action, and the Lips drummer gives his support to Native American group. Coyne then fires the drummer and does a photo shoot in Native American garb as well.

Drummer also alleges that Coyne has had a midlife crisis the last few years and gave songs he wrote for Deerhoof to Kesha, and wanted band members to start fake social media fights with other bands such as The Black Keys as publicity stunts.

Wearing an Native American headrests is not racist.  The Landover NFL team name is racist.  Anyway it is just some guy who got fired word anyway.  If you get kicked out of a band start your own band.

Who said it was racist? Even the group who brought it to light said it was offensive "cultural appropriation," and painted the issue as more disrespectful to use what is, in essence, a religious icon as a fashion statement.

I don't get the Deerhoof stuff.  The guy is evidently telling people to go fuck themselves on Facebook.  If you call that giving support, I don't.  Sounds like he has issues.  Who cares anyway?  Go join Deerhoof.  He isn't a real member of the Flaming Lips anyway.

Cheated on his wife with a 20 year old cocktail waitress, and the whole headress issue (also, it's clear from her instagram caption, she knew she was being disrespectful).

and all that stuff with Miley Cyrus, and random 1/2 naked girls on twitter, and Kesha.

I thought this thread was going to be about the news coming out of Nigeria. That is, that Muslim fundamentalists do some fucked up shit (the old news), but many people for some reason are willing to give them a pass in the spirit of being liberal.

But instead, it's just some lame crap about the Flaming Lips.

Oh well.

I've stopped reading hexenjagd's posts for the most part, but I saw the word GIRLS in all caps, so I'm assuming that the conversation is changed HBO's fantastic comedy drama? I thought the season finale was fantastic! The new original song by Michael Penn can't keep a good girl down that played over the last two minutes of the episode and through the credits was absolutely a fantastic way to sum things up. I'm loving Shoshana more and more every episode.

if you think anyone, liberal or otherwise, is giving a pass to this mass kidnapping you are seeing only what you want to see.  condemnation of the kidnapping has been universal.  point me to one source where the libs are shrugging their shoulders and saying "freedom of religion, whachagonnado?"

what has the american protestant church said about this?  the catholic church?  jewish council (or whatever it's called)?  plenty of organizations have said nothing... does that make every one of them worse that CAIR?

and when CAIR actually does say something, the best you can come up with is that it "took them long enough"?  how childish.

you've stated that you didn't hate all muslims, just the extremists.  busted.

I don't hate Muslims, just their stupid, antiquated, anti-reason religion. Christianity too.

Though I will say they won't stone you for adultery or homosexuality in any Christian country.

And yes, CAIR has more of a responsibility to say something than some Protestant or Jewish organization.

Took them long enough.

They are really postponning a Lady Gaga concert for an NBA game? That is ridiculous and just shows you how people overvalue sports.  Especially a sport I have no desire to watch.  Playing is fun (which I did yesterday).  Watching boring as sin.

I think a class action lawsuit should be started.

Yeah, its crazy how a tenant who puts on 41+ events a season plus pays virtually all maintenance costs for the venue somehow gets priority over a one-off concert. Economic realities, who can understand them?

The 95 Saturn ... Is there anything worse for a grown man to drive.   A few years ago after getting off of work I was waiting at a light and there was this old Saturn in front of me.  The light turned green and after about 15 seconds of waiting I honked the horn to let the guy in the Saturn know.  He was on his cell phone.  He screams at me "What do you want to do race to a red light".  The light was clearly green.  I expected it to be a college student or something.  As who else would drive an old Saturn?

Anyway he finally moves to the light cursing me the whole way.  By the time he gets to the light it is red.  He proceeds to get out of his car to further yell at me.  Cell Phone still held up against his ear.  I was contemplating whether I should smash into him with my car.  And then he starts yelling "I know you, I know you".  Turns out to be someone who works at my company.   I was thinking what kind of a loser can't afford a decent car.  A few month back he quit the job as according to people he couldn't handle the stress.  He didn't have a new job.  Our job is very low stress.

Funny thing is I had ran into this guy on the Ocean City boardwalk a year ealier.  I had no idea who he was but I was walking down the boardwalk with my Girlfriend at the time.  (I don't go to Ocean City but my girlfriend was from the midwest so I thought I would show her all the beaches).  And this guy came up to me and started talking to me like I should know who he was.  He tells me all about his vacation and his kids.  And I am thinking I don't know this guy.

Anyway, it has given me the opinion that weird people drive old Saturns.

Why do you want to ban me so badly? I don't get it.
Because I don't feel you have some inherent God-given right to take a shit on this community pretty much daily. I don't think that everyone else on here should have to suffer and read through you trolling and intentionally trying to destroy any conversation anyone's having with random non sequiturs. This messageboard is a better place tomorrow if your banned today. Whether that's "fair" to you is completely irrelevant.

It's like if everyone went to a party and everyone was behaving nicely but one person comes in and they start shooting guns in the air, they pick up all the food on the buffet table and throw it on the floor, and they start urinating in the corner: we would never go, "oh, we can't ask that person to leave. That might ruin their fun. They have a right to be a complete asshole and make things worse for everyone else." We would never do that. We would throw that person out immediately. I see no reason it shouldn't be the same here when people such as yourself are figuratively taking a shit in the middle of our front room daily and our current moderators won't tell you to pull your pants up and throw you out of the room.

It's also, overwhelmingly, what the rest of us want. When doing the right thing and doing the popular thing both involve doing the exact same thing and someone fails to do it, we really have to question that person's fitness to lead.

Are you talking about all the meta-threads you post?  Or perhaps how James Ford has turned this thread into an attack on Muslims?  You are accusing me of trolling by supporting a concert on a music site over a team that I have heard no one mention once on here. I  believe you are using the classic move of being a troll by calling someone else a troll.  Weren't you banned on here for a long time?

Also, if you want to be a moderator so bad send Seth a message with your qualifications and all the support you have gotten.  Perhaps he will let you have the total control of the message board you so badly want.  I would leave the part out about you being banned before.

Can someone please list what I can and cant wear?  What is offensive and culture misappropriation in regards to hats and clothes?

Is it ok for me to wear one of my Afghan hats and scarves to a show?

Headdresses are out... But that is cool because they would get in the way and block people's view.

What about a crown of thorns?

Can I dress as a Roman Centurion for Halloween?  Or is that culture ok to have as a costume?

And you all keep talking about the Redskins, or other Native American teams, but what about the Vikings?  Or Spartans?  Those are ok for mascots but not Native Americans? What about the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame?  I am half Irish, should I be offended and write a blog post about it?

Also, my dog is offended at all of the dog mascots.  I AM NOT A MASCOT, he barked at me after seeing Georgetown on TV.

(post was in jest but my point is, where is the line drawn?)

I don't think having native american as mascots is the problem.  The Landover NFL team has a racial slur as a name.  I am sure if they changed their name to an individual tribe name people would not be upset.

One of the complaints I see in regards to Cultural Misappropriation is "I am not a mascot".

So this guy is only the touring drummer for the Flaming Lips as someone else plays drums on the album.  His mom died when he was 6 due to some big accident at a hotel that killed over 100 people.  Maybe that is why he is so angry.  Anyway Wayne can hire who ever he wants to be the touring drummer and fire them anytime he wants.

As someone who is half Scottish (in addition to my Irish heritage), I find this to be offensive.

Really?  An Australian putting on blue face for a movie?  Disgusting.
