Title: 4th of July plans?
Post by: manimtired on July 03, 2008, 08:43:00 am
i remember the good ol' days when you could take a cooler of beer down to the mall and park yourself for the day and hang out...

but alas...bbq/booze/fireworks at home with a couple of friends.

 you?

nothing like a bunch of drunk folk wondering around the mall.  oh wait, that happens everyday with the homeless people trying to give tourists maps.

Heading to lovely Ocean City, MD tonight.  Tomorrow is my wife and I's fifth anniversary of meeting at an Econo Lodge pool bar in OC.  That's how much I love America...

in my neck of the woods, some people show their patriot spirit by putting a full size american flag and a full size rebel flag, proudly displayed and flying high from the pick up truck's bed.  budweisers flying out the windows, playing chicken with those "queers in their gook mobiles."

seeing the feelies and sonic youth in NYC, at a free outdoor concert.  catching the fireworks over the statue of liberty afterwards.  should be great.

i hope i don't get carried away in the patriotic spirit and buy an SUV or a gun.

Weekend at Virginia Beach with my ex.  Seeing a Stones tribute band* tomorrow night on the beach, and then the fireworks.

*As any sane person knows, the Stones made some of the best music of the 20th century.  Unfortunately, their music is now performed better by cover bands than the principles themselves.

no no.  i'm sure i'm wrong on this one.  a long time ago, i don't even know what it was, but i think i said something that revealed your age and that you were attending some richy rich school or something.  and after that, i never saw you post a single thing in any topic i started, and seemingly trying to not communicate with me.  but then again, sometimes i think of myself too much, and am wrong.  nice talking to you though.

that's strange and a little creepy.  i can't see why that would have pissed me off, because i am pretty sure that everyone on here knows how old i am.  also, i DID attend a richy rich school (though it is public) and i have never tried to hide that as it is part of who i am.
the only thing that i can recall someone saying on here maybe in the last year-half a year that really pissed me off was something about how...
i was at RISD, "designing skinny jeans for fey guys" or something.
and it was one of those things where the poster was so horribly fucking off and i knew that i was a million times above that and i just did not even say anything.  or i don't think i did.
i do not remember who said that but i remember it was someone who did not know me and knew nothing about me; i equate snap judgments about people you do not know to sheer lunacy.

...but i hold nothing against you!

 2) to answer the thread, I'm riding my bike down to the folklife festival in a little while, then a rooftop party in Shaw to see the werks, then I will go roving the streets of DC to see the REAL firework display... as a lifelong pyro I love this holiday...

so, how was your 4th of july?

to those thinking that they missed something in NYC today, i can confirm that you did indeed miss something good.  the feelies were quite decent, nothing mind-blowing but damn fun.  i suspect that long-time fans of the band thought that their set was amazing.  sonic youth killed it.  they were tight, the music was fun and energetic, and the band was enjoying itself.  got 2 encores and a total of 1.5 hours out of the band.  despite an occasional sprinkling of rain, the crowd was great.  a few too many pix (http://picasaweb.google.com/sweetcell/SonicYouthTheFeeliesNYC4thJuly2008).  the show was broadcast by WFMU and a few tapers were in the crowd, i suggest that SY fans make an effort to track down a recording of this show.  t'was nice to meet up with xNWx and The Boardee Formerly Known As Sal Paradise.

hey seth - any interest in bringing SY to the club?

Thanks for sharing the pics. As an old Feelies fan, I am glad to hear it was a good set. I hope they enjoyed enough to keep doing it long enough to get to DC.
Seth, how about the same pairing for two nights at the club?
Am I the only one who thinks that Kim G. gets hotter ever year?

sorry i didn't get to see you!  it was soo crowded up front when i finished shooting.  i had to leave during 100% so i'm not sure what i missed, but i did go back and look for you for a bit and couldn't find you!  oh well, i am sure we will be at the same shows around these parts sometime soon.
the show was sick; kim totally forgot the lyrics to drunken butterfly.  i kind of wanted to run up there and finish singing it.
heard chloe sevigny was there but did not see her.
photos up here and will be something on BYT monday or tuesday...

and they only let me shoot the firt 10-15 of each band, ballz.

im still way too tired to write anything really coherent, but Sonic Youth put on an amazing show. It was nice that the skies held out for us with just a sprinkling of rain. Great to hear so much from Daydream Nation.

I liked the Feelies as well. A friend said during the show 'hey remember this song, it was insanely popular'. I knew more songs than I thought which was nice, but I must say I was laying out in the grass for most of their set trying to connect with a bunch of friends. And their music was perfect in that situation.

Was great to see the elusive sal_paradise. i think we agreed that we hadnt seen each other since October or November at a show. i guess ill be seeing you at supergrass too (if you ever come back to read this). Or ill be making a trip to BK.

Sweetcell - fun to catch up with you as always. Sorry that things were so chaotic with trying to meet up and find each other at bars.  :)  But glad you found us and hopefully got that beer. A friend said an extra stella ended up at our table, but no body knew whose it was so the waitress took it back. we realized today it was probably yours.

ended up making it down to catch the fireworks and was going to look for you down there, but that didnt happen and then we just went back to more bars. oh and thanks for pronouncing Tortoise. hehehe man my friends get weird when we drink. i guess thats what happens when you hang out with the dutch and the irish.

was an awesome 4th of July.
