any else catch last night's show at the RnR hotel?
the black angels killed it. their sound had elements of black sabbath, the melvins, the doors, and a couple more... done up in their own style. "indie sludge-rock" is how one person described it. music to get stoned to, and head-bang at a slow pace. really really good stuff, good energetic crowd too. spoke with the drummer after the gig and she said they should be back on tour next year. folks should keep an eye out for them, highly recommended.
unfortunately our planning (or lack thereof) didn't allow us to get there in time for warlock.
side-note: this was my first time back at the RnR in several months, and the sound was vastly improved. volume levels were about the same, but with a better PA it didn't hurt the ears as much. still as effen hot as i remembered it.

sweetcell i didnt know you were going too. maybe i'll collect that drink you owe me at the gnarls show.
anyhoo, the show was great and the crowd was good -- a few of them even painted their faces. that was my first time at rnr and seeing both bands. for the stage to be soo small i was surprised there wasnt any type of pushing or to see the band. seemed everyone was in a good mood and into the music.
only real complaint was the lack of a/c at rnr and available cabs after the show.
anyone get the setlist for the bands?
-
i saw them open for someone once and liked it so much i bought a cd
i cant remember who the main act was, though

About ten years ago, I came home and found my roommate home alone watching a Duke basketball game with his face painted blue and white.

i owe you a drank? did i lose a bet again? definitely, will pay you back at gnarls.
the show was a last-minute decision for me, under the evil influences of callat703 and thedirector. glad i gave in to peer pressure. had a total blast.

those are recurring complaints. we got really lucky with the cab situation - no sooner had we gathered ourselves outside and decided to leave, than a cab pulled up and spit out its passengers. total wait time: 4 seconds.

LOL. painting your face to watch a game on TV, at home? as if it's not pathetic enough when people in the stadium do it... wow. then again, he's a Duke fan - wouldn't expect much better.

black angels are the best of the current wave of "black" bands (black lips, black keys, etc). discuss.
wouldn't "blackwolf" (or "wolfblack") be the ultimate name for an indie rock band?
-
dont know bout that. i'd have to say brmc first then the angels or maybe the crowes. dont know.
black lips shouldnt be anywhere on the list

black angels aren't even the best heavy droney psych rock "black" band.

I've always wanted to have a band called Black Sugar and so I think they will have the best Black name after Black Is The New Black, which is another band I've always wanted to have. Our debut album will be called The Black Hole To Hell Where My Lover Has Gone. I've had this in the works for about 20 years, for real for real.

Awesome - just ordered one. Great looking poster.

I like Black Dice and Black Forest/Black Sea more.
Black Mountain is also a good call.
Speaking of Black Forest/Black Sea, on the Music Fellowship site, you can get their album + the Kohoutek album for the great price of $15.

Thank you.
Sweetie, (I think that's who asked) first time in town, The Black Angels opened for some crap band like Clap Your Hands Say Shit and it sold out fast. Couldn't go even if I wanted to but was dying to see the The Black Angels. Was killing me because I was a big fan. Then they opened for The Black Keys at the 9:30 Club. I went just to see them and really enjoyed them. Was bored to tears with The Black Keys but the rest of the crowd loved them. It killed me to miss last night's show but, you guessed it, fucking work got in the way of my life again. Knew it would be good and glad to hear you liked the show but I'm so jealous.

I don't think I appreciated the Black Angels' show as much as I could have....damn last minute decisions, I should've spent more time listening to them first! I think I will like them better seeing them around another time. The kids there were pretty amusing, they certainly enjoyed themselves. Especially the painted ones. I'm definitely glad I went...not only did I get to meet the lovely Cali, but I also got a Warlocks song dedicated to me ;)

I find it odd that The Warlocks got the opening slot with this tour. What happened to Plucky?
