I'm super excited to be playing the club again!! We've played with The Dead Milkmen last year in Philly, and they covered one of our songs. My bandmates joined them on stage.

Anyone planning on attending the show in July at the club?

We were sending a picture to the other band we were on tour with. They were posting pics of rain, etc. so we showed them the weather where we were was nothing but nice...

It's been a good weekend. We released our album on Friday and the label is already out of the first run of printed copies!

We just released a video for a song off the new album. Video is sorta NSFW (implied violence, and go-go dancers)

To add to the evening's festivities, I will in the DJ booth trying to flashback to the early 80s

As I mentioned on Twitter, you can't go wrong with songs about prospectors. Trust me :)

I like this but add back Bad Religion from the initial list and probably throw Youth Of Today in there too.

To be fair, this is probably the most interested the board has ever been in your playlists. I don't even mean that in a snarky way.

The dulcet tones of illiterate frat boys drunkenly sexually assaulting a fat, unconscious skank against the backdrop of burning couches, one would imagine.

Senior Smackie...I don't know you, but how did you end up in my teenage tapedeck?
-
When I discovered the Dead Milkmen around '86, they weren't so lumped in with the punk stuff. They had sort of crossed over and were part of the new wave scene that they made fun of in "You'll Dance to Anything". So though I love all the punk stuff, my recollection is that you'd listen to the "alternative" program and hear a Depeche Mode tune ("Master and Servant"), a Dead Milkmen song ("The Thing That Only Eats Hippies"), and then something like "Burning House of Love" by X. But I think a more skate-punk playlist is a safer bet.
-
I totally agree, Bearman - that's why I didn't chime in when the thread started as I always considered them more new wave punk than hard core. But when I saw the list people were creating, I felt compelled to weigh in. Watching some of their live stuff made me feel better about it.

You'll be pleased to know that my 17 year old nephew came to visit this week and showed up in a 7 Seconds t-shirt and played a Stiff Little Fingers based mix he had created for the car ride. It was a 58 song master piece and all faith was restored in the future of punk.
-
One of the beauties of growing up in the 80s was you could be into punk and hardcore but it was also totally legit to be into this other genre of Americana-esque bands that took the X vibe and ran with it. Thinking about Del Fuegos, Beat Rodeo, Mojo Nixon, Blasters, Beat Farmers, Smithereens, Tex & Horseheads, Gun Club, hell even early REM.
I know this doesn't really advance the discussion, I just felt like typing old bands I used to love.

youth is often wasted on the young, but there is some hope out there
I will say, you used to have to work a lot harder to get and find good original music
I remember finding this entire universe that was off the map for 98% of the people who said they 'liked music'
and for me...that was a big part of the fun of being into music in the early 80's and into the 90's
I didn't really see a ton of club shows until the 90's, which I'll always regret
As I know living in NY, I really missed a billion good shows during my tenure
now everything is there immediately
all singles/b-sides/live shows/websites by and about the band
just make it all have less value IMHO
now get off my lawn and I'm keeping this baseball you whipper snappers
-
Why work harder when you can work smarter?
-
Why work harder when you can work smarter?
just holds less value when everyone has access to everything instantly
to me
but I'm the person with a storage closet full of buggy whips, so I might not be the best person to ask
