Title: Fleet Foxes
Post by: Driveway on July 06, 2008, 05:51:00 pm
Alrighty, who's going to this one at the Black Cat?  I hear they are pretty loud when they play live.  I think their album is pretty good.  It's not going to change the world, but the vocals are really great and it is a nice listen.  I'm a little shocked it has not sold out yet.

They weren't loud at all when I saw them on the backstage in march.

It's not selling out because they moved it upstairs.

Guess they didn't want another Yeasayer fiasco.

Wow really?

 I stand corrected.

How was the show in March?  Do they live up to the super hype?

Awesome. They completely upstaged Blitzen Trapper who they opened for.

Yes, they do live up to the hype live.

I just hope it sounds as good upstairs tomorrow as it did then.

I've found that the backstage sound is consistently good while mainstage is very hit-or-miss.

Anyone want to guess at set times?  I wish Black Cat posted them like 930 does.

website states 9 PM, so if they follow their template it should be something like:

  9:00 doors
9:30 THE DUTCHESS AND THE DUKE
 10:30 FLEET FOXES

opening act might not need/get a whole hour, so FF might go on as early as 10:15.

Don't they start closer to 45 minutes after doors if there are only two bands playing?

I guess it can't hurt to bug him about that ticket via PM or the "this week rollcall" thread.

Still not posted on their website - has anybody called the Black Cat to confirm, or are we just going off the fact that Ticketmaster doesn't have any available?

Maybe TM only sold the amount of tickets that would fill the backstage since the show was originally supposed to take place there? That'd be weird
  and kinda wouldn't make sense.

That could easily happen though, if the Black Cat forgot to add more tickets to their Ticketmaster cache after they moved the show...

Wasn't it still listed as "backstage" then?

I suppose, but one would think that adding more would be one of the first things they'd do after making such a change.

You'd think so - but stranger things have happened.  That's why I asked if anybody has called them.

I'm not sure what all the confusion is about. Their website clearly says that the show is sold out. I guess you younger folk have a hard time with the reading skillz.

old folk have difficulty with timelines and relating to others.

Very good show. Sound was good from where I was except for the low end being too high for the first few songs. This is all from memory and in no order but They played the whole EP minus "Innocent Son" and "Sun Rises," "White Winter Hymnal," "Tiger Mountain Peasant Song," "Your Protector," "Blueridge Mountains" and "Oliver James" from the album. Also played Judee Sill's "Crayon Angels."

Pics on npr and a full stream will be up tomorrow.

Thought the Duchess and the Duke's set was decent but much of the crowd decided they'd rather talk all throughout which clearly annoyed them.

DUchess and the Duke- cute, good tunes, but overall i found most of their songs to be very similar.  that were very annoyed at the chatty crowd.

fleet foxes- wow. everything sounded more beautiful live.  despite the fact that the leader singer was sick, his voice blew my mind.  really, really great show.

FF are really, really good at what they do. I'm just not sure how much I'm into what it is that they do. I found it funny that the four guys with facial hair all sang, and the baby faced Rhett Miller lookalike was the only one who didn't.

Duke and Duchess were highly annoying, a good example of too many bands having record contracts. They should stick with their modelling gig.

i just listened to this CD twice over the weekend and i hate it.  whats the big deal with these guys?  they sound like a My Morning Jacket ripoff.  is this their only disc?

The opening band should definitely invest in some tuners.  The last two songs they played were tolerable.  Other than that, it was pretty annoying.

Was anyone else impressed with that the singer from Fleet Foxes was wearing?  He was dressed like it was 20 degrees in that room.  Where I was, it was borderline sweaty in shorts.  I was very impressed by that alone.  The sound was REALLY good.  I'd love to see them play with Nada Surf or David Bazan, but they will probably be way to huge next time they come thru.

Am I alone in thinking that Fleet Foxes sound like America (the band)?  I don't mean this as a criticism.  I find both groups quite pleasant.

I listened to the NPR recording this morning and said the EXACT SAME THING to my girlfriend ... "shit, this sounds exactly like america!"
