Although soup is a liquid it is a food, so hence, you eat it.

What's in it?  Something you have to chew?  Or is it a broth?  Are you consuming it from a bowl?  Or a cup?  Are you drinking it or spooning it?  So many questions.

A milkshake is a food. If you were being a fattie and propelling your BMI ever upward would you say to someone around you "I am eating this delicious milkshake"?

Yes, I say i am eating a milkshake, all the time.  But, I am not right in the head . . . literally.
