A little early perhaps, but we are giving away tickets for the show, so I thought I'd mention it so folks interested could have a chance at the tickets. BigYawn (http://www.bigyawn.net)
Anyway, i'm going, finally.
-
Going and will be there for the whole show, Hold Steady through WSC... Really eager to pick up the new CD.
-
Bought my tickets on Friday. Can't wait.
-
i'm thinking of going, i've always wanted to check them out...do you think tix will be available at the door? or in the past have they sold out?
-
I think tix will be available at the door. The two bands have played together before, and the place has not been more than 2/3 full.

I was wondering that myself... anyone have a clue?
Edit: already answered... thanks...
-
So, no one else is going? Thought there were a lot of fans on the board... here I was looking forward to a night out with you all.
-
Yeah, I usually have a crew of 8 - 10 for WSC and/or Carlsonics, but folks are out of town, have other things, whatever. I think it's what happens when you play a lot....I'll be there with a few of my concert buddies, but not the whole crew. I may miss The Hold Steady due to a dinner I've got. Oy, so busy...
-
I'll be there--solo more than likely. Haven't heard any of WSC yet.
-
I'm hoping to see the Carlsonics again, as well as check out WSC.
-
FYI from yesterday's WSC email...
What up Socialites! Here's the deal.
It's finally here. THIS FRIDAY! 5/21. The Black Cat, 1811 14th Street. N.W. Washington DC.
The party for the release our debut CD "Catching Looks" on Badman Recording Company of San Francisco.
We will be selling the album at the show and some cool limited edition show posters as well.
Doors are at 9:30. All ages. Also performing are the The Carlsonics and The Hold Steady. We strongly encourage you to arrive in time to see both support bands. They rule.
Tickets are available at the door or thru Ticketbastard. The show could sell out, so you may want to consider buying in advance thru TICKET BASTARD.
The next day, the Social Club performs at HFStival 2004 at RFK stadium. 3:45 to 4:15 on the Taco Bell Locals Only Stage, which we plan on taking national for a half hour. It's called "thinking outside the bun" people. It's what we do.
see you this weekend. be prepared to rock.

So you know, The Hold Steady are actually playing second, to get them some exposure. So you might miss the Carlsonics, whom I know you like...

I got a Carlsonics email this week that that had been changed and that they were playing second. http://www.carlsonics.com/news.htm (http://www.carlsonics.com/news.htm)

hmm... I talked with the WSC's drummer last week and that's what he told me. But it obviously could have been changed since then.

I got the email too. I was a little more concerned about the supposed 9:00 start time. Everything else I've seen says 9:30.

Alrighty... well, I'll see some of you tonite then. Prolly be in the red room around 9, if anyone cares.
-
I think I'm going, if not a bit late. look for me in the "tune it or die" t-shirt :p

Another great show. The Social Club is getting better and tighter every time I see them (which is about every time they play DC). i think their Velvet Lounge days are over -- need bigger clubs, and I'll miss that mashed in tight energy of the Lounge shows, but it's the next step. Fantastic, I had a ball, as usual... Got a show poster and the new CD -- the only bummer for a longer-time fan is that six of the album cuts are from the E.P.
The Carlsonics were good, but were missing a bit of energy that they'd had the past couple of shows....maybe they're slightly out of touring mode just now.
-
i went to the show last night and had an awesome time. Washington Social Club was great! I had never seen any of the bands before and was very impressed. I was slightly dissappointed with the carlsonics live set, but bags mentioned they were kinda off..so i'll have to check them out again.
-
I'm glad to hear the Carlsonics were slightly off on Friday. They were good, but I was hoping they'd be a little better. I'll definitely check them out next time. WSC was great - as usual. The new disc is good, but still doesn't come close to their live show.
-
I agree the Carlsonics did not rock as hard as usual, but the Social Club was on fire. Best I've ever seen them, and that's saying a lot considering their track record. But I agree, the album just doesn't have the same grittiness that their live stuff does. Oh well. we're lucky that they still enjoy playing their home town.

Guess who's achieved The Onion (http://www.theonionavclub.com/music/index.php?issue=4024#review5) status?
-
I saw that yesterday -- emailed it out to some friends, but forgot to post it. Pretty cool, eh?
-
Good on them. It's great to see their efforts pay off.

Another "local" band got a nod recently as well in the Onion.
From the music in brief 5/19/04
Since its inception, Splitsville (http://www.splitsville.com/) has endured label woes and a widespread indifference to its classic power-pop sound, although it has a substantial following in Japan. The new Incorporated (Houston Party) finds Splitsville soldiering on in good form, leaning toward the rougher, Cheap Trick end of the pop spectrum (there's even a Van Halen nod at one point) rather than the gentle Beach Boys sounds celebrated on its last album. But, as expected, the new release provides a tiny burst of awesomeness. â??Keith Phipps

Smackie, did you ever make it over to see them at the Amoeba in-store the other day?
