mama mia, that's a long line of comedians being booked there.
-
its all about dc's lack of a mid size venue
the comedy shows were being booked at the warner theatre but they were all selling out.. basically they can't compete with dar's offer because dar has way more seats.
the same thing happens often with concerts.. they are selling out all the time at the 930..
if only seth could build a 2000-2500 capacity place he'd be rocking it..
this lack of a midsize venue is dc's most glaring problem when it comes to concerts/events.
-
i dont even count dar as a venue because its absolutely horrid..
i won't go there unless hendrix comes back from the dead and plays bongos for elvis while buddy holly sings backups.

There was talk of him leasing the DC Armory for shows a few months back. That'd be perfect.

i'm a fan of DAR (weird, i know), but the sound techs need to know what they're doing for comedy shows. bill maher there sounded great, but night 1 of eddy izzard was abysmal. echoes made him almost incomprehensible. luckily i was close to the PA, but the poor sound ruined the show for some people at the back of the hall.
all the concerts i've seen at DAR have sounded OK to really good, IMO.

Weren't you at the most recent Primus show there? Sound was horrible from where I was (one of the boxes).

i was, but i was front row, directly in front of les :) sound was decent from there, the fills weren't too loud, mix was decent, and there was no echo. that man has big feet.

It being a comedy venue ain't exactly new, Eddie Murphy's Delirious was filmed there. I think one of the Chris Rock specials was too.
