Cool thread.  Can't believe these exemplars haven't been mentioned here OR Wikipedia:
 
 Slow Dive, after a Siouxsie and the Banshees song of the same name
 
 Low, after a David Bowie album
 
 Several Species, after a Pink Floyd lyric (but they're a tribute band, so it doesn't really count)
 
 I'll probably think of some others 'cuz I run across them all the time.

While I'm sure they don't mind a tip of the hat to CCR, the band originates from an area where the Green River runs. And I think their name was more of an homage to the Green River Killer, who killed like 50 women in the 80s.
