Title: Revisiting concerts past...
Post by: bearman🐻 on April 21, 2020, 09:04:21 pm
I'm randomly looking up shows I've been at on YouTube...just to see if there's anything posted, and I came across this gem from Elliott Smith, February 2000 at the Black Cat. Anyone else find anything of note that you've been at that you were surprised to see/hear?

This was killer show...unfortunately I wasn’t into taking pics or videos ..this was a year before I became a professional concertgoer...that hutch would have videos, pics, autographs and would have met Cerati

Gustavo Cerati solo at State Theatre with a killer band...Fernando Samalea on drums...Richard Coleman second guitar

Cerati was the guy from Soda Stereo
I do have the set list somewhere
This is all I have found in over a decade

Clearly Hutch got a date with football legend Dick Butkus.

Besides, The Flaming Lips . . . The Polyphonic Spree, both seen at 930, were about as close as I have ever come, to a masturbating in front of Jesus experience.

Can confirm and was in attendance for both.  Thought about both of those shows for days after....absolute "holy shit" moments.

I was at this sweaty show almost a year ago.  Full show with excellent video and audio quality:

I saw the Flaming Lips early 2000s at 930 and found it underwhelming...I still have a cool yellow shirt I bought at show

I remember giant balls and people dressed as bunnies but don’t remember anybody in crowd masturbating....seems like something one would remember

Was there as well... I think it was easter weekend of 2003 if memory serves me. I enjoyed it, what I didn't enjoy is their schtick is exactly the same 17 years later.

Yeah this Flaming Lips show had way too much focus on their schtick for me..not enough on the music

I was at the show with Julian and Walkie. I didn't (and still don't!) know their music at all.  All I had was the schtick, which was like, OK.

They haven't put out anything worth listening to since that tour/album.

most memorable Flaming Lips show for me was Earth Day 2009.....it was short and they did that Madonna song, Borderline.

Exactly

That show for me was the end.

Wayne Coyne’s nephews band has arguably put out a better Lips album in the past 17 years than the Lips!

That was a weird show, Wayne kind of trashed environmentalism in the middle and it got freezing and rained right after.

Way . . . to ruin my erection.  The whole world, is schtick.  Every thing you watch, everything you listen to, every beverage you consume, is schtick.

Which rhymes with, dick.  To each their own.

Wayne Cohen and Tim DeLaughter, are my fuck idols.

Come on, man. You misspelled Julian even though it is right there on every page.
