And the last time I checked, his name was JOSE Gonzalez. But Mexican names are pretty much interchangeable, right?

I'm only planning to attend the following concerts in March:
2008/03/18 God Is An Astronaut @ The Ottobar

April's looking like a big month for me.

I've got one in March, two in April, and one in May. And that's a heavy load for me.

care to share which shows those will be? we might end up in the same room at some point... either we'll annihilate each other in a flash of blinding light, a la matter/anti-matter; or i'll have an opportunity to buy you that beer i owe you from the bet you won a while back. i forget what the bet was (was it about how fast lily allen sold out the club?), but i remember that i owe you a beer of your choosing.
-
3/10 Medications @ DC9
3/15 Bob Mould @ 9:30
3/19 A Place To Bury Strangers @ RnRH
3/21 either Le Loup @ Black Cat or 7 Door Sedan/Rambling Shadows @ Velvet Lounge

Might go to that 7 door sedan/rambling shadows show too, actually.

Swap out Bishop Allen for Drive-by Truckers (DBT is playing two shows, but Charlie will only go to one because two would be piggish).
-
other options i can't consider because i'm not in town that week:
Tue 3/18 Tilly and the Wall @RnR (vs. GiaA)
Wed 3/19 The Most Serene Republic @DC9 (vs. APTBS+HF)
march-planning related question: what's a good resource for checking up on shows in chicago? also, feel free to post/send me suggestion in chi-town for the week of march 16-22.

Here's the only show I'm going to this month. Anybody else going?
It's difficult to convey how enjoyable a Robbie Fulks live show is. When you're telling someone about it, you don't know what to focus on. There's his sharp sense of humor. There's the way you find yourself saying, "Wait a minute, that's a Cher song!" (or Abba, or Michael Jackson, or . . .). Then again, there's the way Fulks and his band play such twangy, heartbreakingly real country music. It could make the most hard-core country purist cry. He can rock out on occasion, too. See him at Jammin' Java Saturday.

I hope the fab miss p. doesn't mind a little expansion to her thread..
anyways so far i'm in for the hives (just got back) and seeing Alice Smith at the BC later today.
No filling of any buzzword bingo cards based on my Hives review... This band just makes me happy and occasionally twitch my body rhythmically to the beat. Always a fun show when the crowd is there to just have a good time... Could have done without the Donnas...
-
13th: Live @ 9:30
15th: Louis XIV @ RRH
21st: Virginia Coalition @ DC
27th: Matthew Good @ Iota
29th: Vic Wooten @ State Theater
every Friday @ Geisha Lounge... my month is pretty sparse.
-
hmmmn, its gonna be pretty lonely at the morcheeba show!
i might check out sons and daughters as well.
-
Get yer bingo cards out...
Was really looking forward to finally seeing Alice Smith, but for the first time felt that the sound there and crowd truly ruined a show there for me. As long as Alice was singing in the bottom of her range the sound was adequate, but the upper range was turned thin and tinny sounding, even the bottom end of her bands sounded muddier. And the crowd was unbelievably chatty through the show even during the songs. Was diggin' the funked up versions of the songs along with a couple choice covers including The Prentenders "Don't Get Me Wrong"
Kosmette had a blast at the Pogues save for the drunken frat boy assholes and a couple tall people...
-
Justice @ Sonar = 100 boners
-
So it was an erect sausage convention? Gross.
-
I've always imagined a Pogues crowd to be at least 85% drunken frat boy assholes (and aging drunken asshole former fratboys). Am I wrong on that one?

well this group was a extra special type of nimrod, who at one point almost got tossed out of the club and were also claiming they would be getting backstage after the show...
-
the hives show was super awesome. also good times to hang with callat703 and director, although i drank way too much and ended up missing out on justice @ sonar last night. oh well.
-
i came to shoot at this; the hives were a blast! i mean, come on. who can argue with a full-on pit at 9:30?
and i didn't mind the donnas as i thought i would...they rocked it out. twas a good time.
photos are up here (http://www.flickr.com/photos/youbebetty/sets/72157604083475967/) , and at brightest young things...

Hey, it was her boyfriend buying the shots. Don't look at me!
And of course, you should have been there yourself.

Hahaha. It's true. My boy did buy the Jameson, which I'm near 100 percent sure did me in.

Now, as the resident good manners AFICIONADO, I can tell you, you're being a bit too hard on the chaps. Simply allowing a young lady to get smashed is not, in fact, ungentlemanly, not bad manners. It's allowing someone their free will. Now, if they were making snide comments as she threw up on herself or taking advantage of her delicate situation, that would be quite ungallant.
But as far as we know, these seemingly fine, upstanding young gents could've shuttled her into a taxi and paid for it, which would be quite gentlemanly.

Did it involved a dildo from one of those pleasure parties?
