$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
Will you win $40,000 tomorrow? Maryland residents who are vaccinated will be automatically entered into a lottery with daily prizes of $40,000, and a grand finale prize of $400,000, between May 25th and July 3rd.
If the numbers work out, it seems like we should all win at least once. What are your plans when the money starts rolling in?

My co-worker is constantly harassing my other coworker because he said he's from North Potomac
it's got a complicated history
North Potomac did not get an identity of its own until 1989, when the United States Post Office allowed the use of the North Potomac name for what is mostly a collection of housing sub-divisions, farms, and wooded parks. The United States Census Bureau listed a North Potomac in 1970 but not 1980. In 2000, it began recognizing North Potomac as a census designated place.

dignified states like Virginia don't do silly parlor games for the masses to get our citizens to get the jab (I don't think VA has done any incentive?)

I didn't win $40,000 today, but you might have. Today's winner is from Clarksburg, MD, which only sort of counts as Montgomery County.

. Today's winner is from Clarksburg, MD, which only sort of counts as Montgomery County.
what's with the 'northern' and Census-designated places in MD...can't we just have normal cities and counties
Clarksburg is a census-designated place and an unincorporated area in northern Montgomery County
(yes Arlinton VA is a county, with no cities)

I live in PG county... I did not win.
There goes that option for shed funding.

Washington state already had great stats...this might be the best incentive yet
https://www.nytimes.com/2021/06/07/us/washington-marijuana-covid-vaccine.html
As part of its strategy to vaccinate more of its population, Washington State will allow adults to claim a free marijuana joint when they receive a Covid-19 vaccination shot.
The state’s liquor and cannabis board announced on Monday that the promotion, called “Joints for Jabs,” was effective immediately and would run through July 12.
Sweets let us know how this worked out

promotion only available if a dispensary holds an in-house vax clinic and you have to get vaxx'ed on the spot. unfortunately it's not a retroactive offer, like the state lottery (still somewhat miffed that excon isn't announcing the fact that i haven't won on the daily).
as far as i can tell none of the retailers near me ("near" being a relative term) are hosting a vax clinic, i'm already vaxxed, and frankly i'm not so desperate for a joint that i'm willing to drive 45 minutes each way to get immunized a second time in exchange for a $6 joint. i certainly hope this program sucks in a few extra folks and ups the vax rate.
-
Where is your sense of adventure?
I would be curious what kind of joint they give out
The board might be willing to chip in for gas and a stipend for your time
-
I'd chip in if there was an Instagram feed and we sent him to the Pike Place Fish Market and tried to catch a fish (after smoking said joint of course)

I didn't win $40,000 today but somebody in Clinton did. I wonder if Julian owns property there...

This can’t be? Are you sure you are entered?

Maybe they're waiting to call me until the $400K prize!!!

Continuing the streak, we didn't win $40,000 today. Harford County makes a rare appearance, re-emerging as an actual place in Maryland.

I didn't win $40,000 today, but one of you might have...PG County?
-
I didn't win $40,000 today, and it seems like Cecil County isn't really even in Maryland.
Cecil County is a county located in the U.S. state of Maryland at the northeastern corner of the state, bordering both Pennsylvania and Delaware. As of the 2010 census, the population was 101,108. The county seat is Elkton. The county was named for Cecil Calvert, 2nd Baron Baltimore (1605–1675), the first Proprietary Governor of the Province (colony) of Maryland. It is part of the Philadelphia-Camden-Wilmington, PA-NJ-DE-MD Metropolitan Statistical Area. Cecil County has existed since the late 1600s, though it continued to grow in population and town size. The county is located in Wilmington's Radio Market and Philadelphia's Designated Market Area.

Baltimore City scarfing up all the ducats.

As of the 2010 United States Census, there were 101,108 people, 36,867 households, and 26,681 families living in the county.[28] The population density was 292.0 inhabitants per square mile (112.7/km2). There were 41,103 housing units at an average density of 118.7 per square mile (45.8/km2).[29] The racial makeup of the county was 89.2% white, 6.2% black or African American, 1.1% Asian, 0.3% American Indian, 1.0% from other races, and 2.2% from two or more races. Those of Hispanic or Latino origin made up 3.4% of the population.[28][30]
Of the 36,867 households, 36.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.7% were married couples living together, 12.0% had a female householder with no husband present, 27.6% were non-families, and 21.8% of all households were made up of individuals. The average household size was 2.70 and the average family size was 3.13. The median age was 38.9 years.[28]
The median income for a household in the county was $64,886 and the median income for a family was $75,742. Males had a median income of $54,379 versus $39,933 for females. The per capita income for the county was $28,640. About 6.3% of families and 9.0% of the population were below the poverty line, including 12.2% of those under age 18 and 7.8% of those age 65 or over.[31]
Cecil County is home to a small Amish community in the Cecilton area that was founded in 1999.[32] Amish families moved to the area from Lancaster County, Pennsylvania because of increasing costs and the declining amount of farmland there.[33]
Cecil County is also home to another winner of Maryland's $40,000 COVID-19 lottery.
-
do you have any stats on how many people named Cecil, live in Cecilton in Cecil County, Maryland
-
All of them. They're all named Cecil.
-
All of them. They're all named Cecil.
Yes, but they pronounce it See-sul like Cecil Fielder whereas Cecil County and Cecilton are pronounced Ses-ul. Its a real trip.

The tour of places-in-Maryland-you've-never-heard-of continues. Today's highlight: Parkville, MD, home of one of the select few $40,000 lottery winners. It isn't me...is it you?
