I'm gonna kill some time and go to border's and buy a cd. Help me pick something.
Suggestions?
-
Moz - Quarry
Bowie - Hunky Dory
Bowie - Ziggy Stardust
Bowie - aw hell, anything pre-85 or post-95

I don't presume to know your tastes, but BR549's "Tangled in the Pines" is my favorite album of the year. Check it out in the country listening station.

Hmmmm. Gotta few Smiths albums but don't have any solo stuff. How does it compare?
Got all the Bowie I need.
Good suggestions...keep 'em coming!

No offense, but it's unlikely I'll be standing around in the Country section. Still, thanks for pitching in to help cure my boredom. Me and the misses and the kids are off to the beach on friday and this week is just dragging by....
-
16 Horsepower - "Low Estate" or anything really
Noir Desir - "666-667 Club" or "Des Visages Des Figures"
Clutch - "Blast Tyrant" or "Elephant Riders"
New Model Army - "Thunder and Consolation"
Spacehog - "Resident Alien"
The Getaway People - "The Getaway People"

Haven't got the new Moz yet, but if you want to try some of his solo work try Viva Hate, Bona Drag(kind of a greatest hits dealio) or Vauxhall and I. You can't really compare it to The Smiths as far as the sound goes, but the dry, sarcastic, self-loathing lyrics that we all know and love are still there.

Do you know any details regarding the show? The website says openers are at 6:30 and headliners finish by 9:45. Don't know if there is an opener, just emailed them for details...

I was wondering last night...that Von Bondies album is good? I like the single, but don't know how that bodes for the rest of the album...

surprisingly since I did not care for the first album much, it may be my favorite this year

Yeah it's pretty good...not earth shattering but plenty of fun.
I just may try to pick up the deadly snakes record. I listened to some snippets up at itunes and it sounds cool.

I second that motion.
I gave it a second listen last night. It's good stuff and it shows just how far ahead of the curve these guys were.
While we are on the subject of album recommendations -- has anyone picked up the new McLusky? Opinions?
-
I just finished listening to it for the first time, and it's definitely good. Have to give it a few more listens before I can make a final decision, but you shouldn't be disappointed.
And just for the record, I STILL have no idea how Markie and Lulu like this band...

High squiffiness quotient.

on first listen the new Mclusky is not as good as the last, but it will take a few more listens
will take some time as I slipped in to old habits last night and ended up with a few new cds, whoops, but managed to get a promo of the new Mission of Burma for free
-
What exactly is the deal with this band?
I have their self-titled album (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00006L3OZ/qid=1084995577/sr=1-19/ref=sr_1_19/102-9074082-4865708?v=glance&s=music), which is identical to the album Radio, by the band Ashtray Babyhead (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00004YX0J/qid=1084995621/sr=2-2/ref=sr_2_2/102-9074082-4865708).
This "new" album (pictured below) shares nine of twelve songs with the albums mentioned above.
Band renaming and album repackaging aside, it's a catchy little album -- in fact all three are catchy albums, since they are essentially the same.
Did anyone see them open for Sloan?

Allright I'm back form Borders. Of course they didn't have the first few things I looked for...no Deadly Snakes or New Model Army. Then I figured I'd pick up the newest Nick Cave. No dice there either. So I got the MoB record. While I was there I also picked up the stereo version of Pet Sounds. I've got the mono and have been meaning to pick up the remaster forever and just never did, so I can cross that off my list now too.
Thanks for all your suggestions.....Now I must get back to work and tend to my bidness...
-
Any of these records would be a good choice: http://porktornado.diaryland.com/albumcover.html (http://porktornado.diaryland.com/albumcover.html)
In my CD player right now however are:
Sonic Youth -- Daydream Nation
the new PJ Harvey, Sonic Youth, and Phoenix singles
Pixies/Radiohead live at Coachella

Who wants mine? From Coachella. (The cost I paid. I can bring to a show.)

I saw the last song and a half. I liked it. Kosmo pointed out that he thought it was awfully formulaic, and I pointed out that it happens to be the formula I love....power poppy punk. I didn't see enough to really recommend them or not. Now I wish I'd gone ahead and picked up the CD at the show. I have a cool sticker if anyone's interested. :D
-
bored at work?
that's why i ducked out early today
go buy Mindless self indulgence - frankenstein girls will seem strangely sexy

It's yours. It's probably easier for me to drop in the mail then remember to bring to a show...pm me your address...
-
since the kicks album was not "officially" released yet, there were none to be bought at the sloan show.
-
well excellent, so I didn't miss out on anything....so it was just released this Tuesday?
-
yeah, they said it was coming out the 18th. although someone was working through the crowd between sets soliciting thoughts on the kicks show and passing out a 4 song cd sampler. one of the songs was mir, the kicks single. i think another song was from ambulance ltd. can't recall the other two songs.

I received a request via PM right after my post. It's on hold for that person right now. If it changes, you are next in line. Sorry I didn't post this info right away.
-
concur on the assement of The Kicks... Very much in the Jimmy Eat World formula. big hooks, little screaming, with a bit of southern boogie lurking in the shadows. Certainly better than the Thursday ilk... Sloan still Kicked thier asses back to the bayou :D

lame commentary...but a few weeks ago when I saw The Kicks' huge promo sign at Tower promoting the new album, I recalled MxPx's album cover. What's up w/ album covers and belt buckles this year? Are there more?

Thanks to 9/11 Lee Greenwood is finally getting his due. I'm always happy to see an under-appreciated genious get the recognition they deserve...by any means necessary.
