Title: Posts of the Year - 2006
Post by: vansmack on November 22, 2006, 02:26:00 pm
Alright, who remembers the best posts of this year?

This was my favorite from 2005:

From the Do you Read? (http://www.930.com/cgi-bin/ubb-cgi/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=1;t=010826) Thread.  I think the book had been about less than a month at that point.

 What about this year?

Maybe the one where the kid wrote in to berate 9:30 staff for denying him entrance to a show, then through the replies it comes to light that the kid was drunk and had a fake ID, and was lucky he wasn't arrested. I'd be hard pressed to remember the title of that thread, though.

Navy guy, came from wine tasting? If so, I second that vote.

I think that was in reference to the guy who failed to get into the Citizen Cope show.  That was a good thread.

having a search function would help dredge up posts of the year!

My personal favorite is Markie avoiding a happy hour because if he'd seen me there he would've beat me up...

not sure if this one takes the cake, but the above-average literary content deserves mention: in response to Bloc Party pulling out of the Panic! at the Disco show b/c the drummer's lung collapsed, Mobius wrote:

This reminds me of that biblical story when Job started a band that earned the admiration of music-loving urban artistic liberal arts types and then they linked up with a dubious hacky kids group in an attempt to gain a mainstream audience and it was displeasing to the lord so he smote the shit out of them mid-tour.

Whatever it was, he avoided a happy hour because he was afraid of seeing someone he snarked at on a message board.  Pathetic!   :D

Back to back Bearman quotes.  This trendsetter I could have done without, except he was serious at the time:

Ah yes...my Birchmere question. An all-time classic! But that was from 2005...so I hardly think it qualifies. That being said, it seemed like at least a few folks chimed in with serious responses.

The real question is has anybody ever eaten at the 9:30? Anyone go to the 9:30 for the food? I remember when the club opened up someone got me a Frito pie...literally a bag of Fritos opened up and served with chili and cheese. I had a mouthful on a dare. Haven't had a bite of 9:30 food since then.

Wow. I don't remember that one at all.

I do remember the dad asking if James blunt was going to use the explicit lyrics for his show because it was an all ages show, or if it was safe to take his kids because he was going to use the PG-13 version.  That was classic.

Actually, Dead Meadow have done very well.....except in DC. The rest of the world loves them.

Alcian Blue also has a fairly big following outside of DC, especially amongst the Shoegazers.
