Hmmm
Might need you to sit in the corner and ponder why starting a thread with so little actual new album information was a good thing

Its because he knows this topic will get filled with posts over the course of the year and the advanced stats nerds who analyze this forum credit the topic starter with a lot of that engagement. Like me with the integer thread.

look, if you're going to be a despot moderator and require some sort of quota for new threads ("new threads must have at least X amount of content in the initial post"), you're going to have to be a little more communicative, mkay??

Kosmo, you can’t tell him what to do! You’re not his real dad!!

also, kosmo: way to bury the lede. first PJ album in over three years but the most important thing to discuss is forum posting expectations??

Can we move on to the next 2,019 albums? I can't wait to watch it develop. This thread is going places.

Thom Yorke - Confidenza (movie soundtrack)
Digital release 26 April, Physical release 12 July
Thom Yorke composed the original score for Daniele Luchetti’s film Confidenza, an adaptation of the Italian drama based on Domenico Starnone’s novel of the same name. Confidenza sees Yorke working again with Sam Petts-Davies as well as the London Contemporary Orchestra alongside a jazz ensemble which included Robert Stillman and fellow The Smile bandmate Tom Skinner.

Posthumous Johnny Cash Album Songwriter Announced, New Song “Well Alright” Shared: Listen (https://pitchfork.com/news/posthumous-johnny-cash-album-songwriter-announced-new-song-well-alright-shared-listen/)
Previously unreleased demos by Cash are fleshed out with help from Marty Stuart, Dave Roe, Pete Abbott, the Black Keys’ Dan Auerbach, and more
-
Unless one has listened to Cash’s 80s and early 90s stuff before he hooked up with Rubin and albums of unreleased songs already put out after Cash’s death buying this would be utterly pointless. These are basically Cash’s discarded ideas from his most fallow artistic and commercial period.
Cash has like 100 albums out almost all of which nobody listens to. 98% of people just listen to a hits compilation, live ant Folsom or San Quentin and mostly the Rubin stuff. And we’re going to dig up this unused stuff?
Johnny Cash’s legacy is secure without these sorts of projects. I don’t get it.

Sure they do….unless they sold out the estate gets the revenues from publishing, etc.
Moreover, I doubt this project even recoups costs. You think there are thousands of people going to buy or stream this?
As best I can guess this is a vanity project and for John R. Cash to have something to do…and to keep Cash’s name out there…

MC5 Announces First Album in 53 Years, 'Heavy Lifting' (https://ultimateclassicrock.com/mc5-heavy-lifting-album/)
MC5 will release a new album on Oct. 18. Heavy Lifting marks the band's first studio record in 53 years.
The album was spearheaded by the band's founding guitarist Wayne Kramer, who died in February. Produced by Bob Ezrin, Heavy Lifting includes performances by original MC5 drummer Dennis Thompson, who died in May, on two songs.
Guests on the album include Slash, Tom Morello, Alice in Chains' William DuVall, Living Colour guitarist Vernon Reid and Don Was. Kramer cowrote 12 of the album's 13 songs.

I just don’t understand
MC5 are a band. Hope that helps.
-
I did a little diggin' on this new "MC5" album as the first track out and about.. and most certainly up to no good "Boys Who Play With Matches" is a barn burner...
Turns out it's been in the works long before Wayne and Dennis's untimely passing. Wayne recorded a new version of "American Ruse" with singer Brad Brooks in 2020. In 2022 Wayne went into the studio to start recording this album with Brad on vocals and Don Was and Abe Laboriel Jr. They later did that 2022 tour as the MC5, where they road tested the new material. Wayne actually announced the release of the album in 12/23 prior to his death, so it's not a case of lets find some mothballed tapes and release an album...
-
Yeah, Wayne was definitely working on it for a while, so it's not like it was a rush to throw it out before their induction into the R'n'R Hall of Fame. So glad that I got to see those MC50 shows. They were so great. Wayne was also a good soul. Will definitely be checking this record out.

New Primal Scream, but excitement is low on this one.. So much coming to the surface regarding Bobby G. Word is he cut Denise Johnson out of any royalties she could have earned and in general treated her badly.. also just saw that in Miki Berenyi’s book he comes off as leech who groped her.
-
All this stuff about Bobby G. is weird cause he was always considered one of the good guys…
Now it turns out he screwed over two former band members - who never said anything publicly while alive- on money. My first question in these cases is was there really that much money in play? After Screamadelica Primal Scream never really sold that well anyways… And I am guessing on Screamadelica Alan McGee got the real money. Now sometimes people assume there is a lot of money they are getting screwed out of but I mean after Exterminator their albums hardly sold 1000 copies and that was almost 25 years ago!
Rock and roll is a dirty business and such stories are a dime a dozen.
As far as acting inappropriate around women I have no idea but if we are talking about the early 90s and people are dropping loads of E I would honestly be surprised if there wasn’t a lot of that behavior going on.

All this stuff about Bobby G. is weird cause he was always considered one of the good guys…
Now it turns out he screwed over two former band members - who never said anything publicly while alive- on money.
speaking of treating former bandmates/collaborators badly: i'm looking forward to the board's reaction to this one... some Perry fans gon' be MAD
I Was A Creative Force Behind One Of The Biggest Rock Bands Of The '90s. Then I Watched Them Erase Me From Their Story. (https://www.huffpost.com/entry/janes-addiction-casey-niccoli-artist_n_668d9f4ce4b08f09c1fb7a11)

That’s so ridiculous and sad.
-
I would say that a lot of fans know her involvement was huge on the look and feel of the band (which was a lot of their appeal)
I helped shape the band’s visual and artistic identity
can confirm
interesting to know that she named both albums
I do think its well know that she was the artist on most of the artwork and involved with the videos
but history is written by the winners
By 1993, our relationship ended, and I walked away with a ferocious drug habit and the clothes on my back. I knew if I stayed, I was going to die. Desperate and homeless, I settled for a small sum of money out of court to compensate me for work I was never paid for ― money that barely lasted a year. In return, I signed away all rights to profit from the art or any future profits related to the band.

Jack White (we're pretty sure, but unconfirmed): "No Name"
released this past Friday, via any cashier at a Third Man Records store
huh? (https://www.freep.com/story/entertainment/music/brian-mccollum/2024/07/20/jack-white-no-name-album-mystique/74478479007/)

Oh look a record flippers wet dream
-
Anyone know where to get a really good rip of this new Jack White record, it’s honestly the first things he done in ages I would want to listen to more than once. Hopefully it gets a proper relatively affordable release
Anyways

Based on the comments on that YouTube rip, I’m not the only one who wasn’t overly enthusiastic about most of Jack White’s solo output. And honestly this record sounds like what The Raconteurs should have sounded like… wonder who he’s working with part of me thinks Benson maybe lurking in the shadows
-
Certainly hope Jack isn’t considering this album a throwaway as I really like this return to his White Stripes roots. Album is just so good, release stunt aside
Wonder if Dean Fertita is involved on this
-
Sometimes I wish I lived in Detroit where I could drop by the Third aman store and pick up the latest kite 🪁 record or playing cards….

No Name is a one-man job. White has spent the past year recording, producing, and mixing the album himself at his Third Man Studio
Definitely a top record for me this year

A box set of his albums would have been much preferred. I mean, it wouldn't be that much more.

"Loud Is As" - Tsunami
https://tsunaminumero.bandcamp.com/album/loud-is-as
Sprung from the DC punk and politics that inspired Dischord, TeenBeat and the Riot Grrrl revolution, Washington, DC’s Tsunami crashed into the 90s with wit, distortion and a sharp-tongued feminist spirit. This five LP box set collects eleven 7"s, 4-track demos, 1993's Deep End, 1994's The Heart's Tremolo, plus the first-ever vinyl pressing of 1997's acclaimed A Brilliant Mistake. Drawing on the suitcase archives of their own Simple Machines Records, Tsunami's ambition – from all ages basement shows to the second stage of Lollapalooza – is captured in essays, photos, and ephemera, revealing the DIY history of the alternative music revolution.
