I'm sure everyone is beavering away on making their lists of best 2024 album, except me of course because A. I loathe/stink at making lists and b. CVDP will make a snide remark about mine and hurt my feelings.
In the meantime I feel as though we should listen to and assess the records topping music sites lists, i.e. Quietus, Pitchfork, Rolling Stone, there will be others I'm sure
I'll start with the Quietus nod of Ex-Easter Island Head - Norther. A 6 track 37 minute album of ambient rock stuff, you do the math :) The opening 9:45 track has a almost four minute crescendo before it starts going. So if guitars struck with mallets and sticks is your thing, then this is an album for you. My reaction is this is nice, but where are hooks and singalong courses...
So currently up for grabs to assess are
Pitchfork - Cindy Lee: Diamond Jubilee a 32-track magnum opus from the glamorous alter-ego of Canadian musician Patrick Flegel. Only available on Bandcamp https://cindylee.bandcamp.com/album/diamond-jubilee
Rolling Stone - Charli XCX, ‘Brat’
Paste - Jessica Pratt: Here in the Pitch
I'll add others as I see them..

Indeed I am beavering away making my own list. I'd rather not look at any other lists until my own is complete. Then I'll play the game. In the meantime, when my own list is complete, should I place it here or start a new thread?

My wife already says I'm a slave to what critics say when it comes to my music, film, and tv picks. If I look at a critic's year end list first and let it influence mine...then she's right.

A couple more lists to digest... My eyes generally glaze over at most of these lists, but I what I enjoy about Louder Than Wars list is they'll include albums I actually listened and enjoyed and don't feel the need to be a hipstery or picking the obvious chart toppers. So group like James, HiFi Sean & David McAlmont, Kneecap, etc make their list. I also learned the New Model Army released a new album.. Beginning to suspect some of you might be contributors to this site give the top three choices..
1. Amyl & The Sniffers: Cartoon Darkness
2. The Cure: Songs Of A Lost World
3. Nick Cave & The Bad Seed: Wild God
(Bad Seed)
I also spy some of sidehatchamthingys favorites on this list and also definitely need to check out Peter Perrett of The Only Ones "The Cleansing"

I listened to Radio 6's Craig Charles best funk and soul of 2024 and ended up with several new open tabs and a bunch of albums to check out...
I'm most intrigued by the London based label Original Gravity and couple of it's artists Junior Dell & The D-Lites a new band doing ska and rocksteady. Also, a Spanish label Discos Antifaz and particular the mysterious Tito Ramírez doing Latin Soul

If you scroll past the massive white space after #50, you'll see 1-49 with pics, many recognizable names among them.

Yes, bits and pieces. There's a lot to get thru and it's quite the lo-fi production.
