Potential big news with respect to 2028 election cycle.

It will be interesting to see if the Bernie-AOC wing puts someone up to the left of Pete. Obviously we have to assume Gavin will run. I don’t believe Kamala will run again.

for a brief moment I was like...it's 2028 already, thank goodness
sigh
but I think Pete is an awesome candidate, I hope he is one of the people you think of when you think of the democratic party
-
Usually one can call these things early
2016 Hillary predetermined
2020 Biden predetermined
2024 well…they gave us no choice
2028 will be the first time democrats have a wide open primary with no presumptive nominee going in since 2004. There will be no democratic nominee with the party thumb on the scale.
2008 remains a rare event where Obama was able to wrestle it away from the presumptive nominee. It’s interesting to imagine an alternate history where Hillary prevailed in the primaries. She was so very close.
As I get older and with the benefit of hindsight (seeing what followed) I have come to see Obama as a failed president that to a lesser degree than W nevertheless paved the way for Trump.

i absolutely love pete, he would make an excellent president... but i'm not convinced that enough of the right people will be willing to vote for an openly gay man - probably even less than they were willing to vote for a woman.

This. Fat rich guy from Illinois who looks like an oil baron, please.

I can’t believe it’s not even been 100 days yet!! Feels more like a year….

I saw him with some facial hair recently, that's going to be a requirement for candidates in 2028.

unless vance runs in 2028, at which point facial hair could be used by the Dem candidate as a differentiator... "vote for the beardless, non-couch-aroused guy!!!"

Pretty sure whoever runs, Trump will be running the show….

hopefully from the grave

No one, not even gay people, will vote for a gay person for president. NO ONE. Even saying the word "beard" in context around a gay man, is considered such a laughable thing.
That is how much all people hate gay people in this country.
-
What are you talking about we have a lot of gay elected officials!!!
I will happily vote for you Walkie.
-
I meant, president, and I meant to say, a gay man. No way. They don't even want gay people on TV or in movies or in video games.
Now a gay woman; well.
-
I think we might see a gay man as president before we see a woman.

I think we might see a gay man as president before we see a woman.
Considering we have had 47 male Presidents and 0 female ones, yeah, I think our first openly gay President will likely be male.
-
Well, I meant before we see a woman: gay or straight.

Oh! That’s a bolder take for sure.

I take issue with that statement
Yes there are a LOT of freaking neanderthals who have American citizenship, that is a fact that I won't argue
but, when I think about the support for gay rights in the 80s and the 90s...well god damn we've come a long way baby
It was less than 30 years ago when 80% of people would say it's an abomination and those people could legitimately be jailed or killed
now part of the issue is the people who actually vote
the thing that makes Mayor Pete so appealing is he doesn't give off the stereotypical gay typecast vibes and he can speak extremely eloquently and sound like the foremost expert on any topic
and unlike most dems, he doesn't back down to opposition even the slightest
