I will get this started with this live album
From June 1970 recorded at Blues Alley
It’s actually pretty good if you don’t mind stride piano. He sings on a few like Take me out to the ballgame
You can hear people talking, glasses clinking while he plays
Just had a morbid thought…everyone who was there is probably dead!
-
Not an album but the live version of She Fucks Me from Ween's Paintin" the Town Brown was recorded at the 930 club

Yeah that counts… I think I was at that show…sidehatch loves that song
I was hoping people would include a picture of the album

Little Feat - Waiting For Columbus
Miles Davis - Live Evil
Eva Cassidy - Live at Blues Alley
-
Fixed. I was there...second Ween show. The liner notes about how they sold out every show on the tour but this night because Fugazi was playing the same night always made me laugh.

Little Feat - Waiting For Columbus
Miles Davis - Live Evil
Eva Cassidy - Live at Blues Alley
Oooh I had not realized about Live Evil!! That album is whacked out
-
Waiting for Columbus was mostly recorded at Lisner as I recall….
It might be the most famous and highest selling DC live album….
-
My friend Nick once video taped one male crackhead fucking another male crackhead in the ass in exchange for a hit of crack. Just north of Cardozo High School. Does that count?
-
Gonna need the album cover

Good one!!

Jackson Browne - The Load Out from Running on Empty recorded at MPP.
Also "Stay" and the title track. The first three minutes of "The Road" was recorded in the nearby Cross Keys Inn (after several name changes, now called the Merriweather Lakehouse Hotel).

not a whole album, but the little fluffy clouds live track from disc 2 of the orb's 1998 compilation U.F.Off was recorded @ 930.
the july 97 show, not the may 97 show.

I was there the first night ;D

Three tracks from Billy Joel's live album Songs In The Attic (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Songs_in_the_Attic) were recorded at The Bayou in 1980: "Summer, Highland Falls", "Everybody Loves You Now", and "You're My Home".

Some of Luna Live at the Club
The LP has four extra tracks but unclear to me if they are from DC or NYC. Britta didn’t know either when I asked her.
I was at the 930 show as I never missed Luna back then…

The artist now know as Frank Tuber recorded this (https://youtu.be/Br7-z74Mqtw?si=psCWRBM-DrBCl2Rc) in the 9:30
I was at this show
"the version on the record we recorded live at the 9:30 club with family and all his workmates there. It was a really moving, special occasion and once it was done, it was just like, 'This has to go on the record' '"

Anyone remember Utopia at 14th and U? Pam Bricker sang there a lot…she then sang with Thievery…including my favorite song of theirs “Lebanese Blonde”! Miss you Pam
The artwork is by Utopia owner Jamal…he was a cool dude…

This comp has a song recorded at the Psychedelly which I think was in Silver Spring by the Slickee Boys in 1978…they would go on to play Atlantis/930 a lot

Probably around this time was Fugazi’s popular peak. They could have signed with any number of majors but opted not to…Around this time you couldn’t read an article or interview of Pearl Jam without Eddie Vedder going apeshit about how great Fugazi was and PJ was the biggest band in the US at the time.

Guys, Nick finally responded to my LinkedIn message and he’s 95% sure he still has this. He’s going to find it and mail me a copy and soon we will all be able to watch this.

A Very Special Christmas Live is the fourth in the A Very Special Christmas series of Christmas music-themed compilation albums produced to benefit the Special Olympics. The album was recorded live in Washington, D.C. in December 1998 at a benefit party held by then-President Bill Clinton and First Lady Hillary Clinton to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the founding of the Special Olympics. It was released on 19 October 1999, and production was overseen by Bobby Shriver for A&M Records. It peaked at #100 in December 1999 Billboard album chart.
Not finding details where it was recorded...Lincoln bedroom?
edit...It was in fact at the white house, a recording exits too

Great Nixon quote (after admitting he knew little about JC and his music)
"But I do know that he was born in Arkansas, and he now lives in Tennessee, but he belongs to the whole country. The music that he represents tonight is called country music and western music. But I think it’s really American music, because it speaks in stories about Americans in a way that touches the hearts of all Americans: North, East, West and South.”

Personally I'd add Live Seeds, I'm sure there are a few others
now playing: Sinatra at the Sands
-
Reality is for whatever reason not a lot of famous live recordings in DC.
I think for a long time even playing DC was anathema.
-
Sinatra at the Sands to me is kind of unlistenable because of the horribly dated patter and shtick between songs. It’s icky and goes on way too long! But people back then loved it. Sinatra concerts were a show.
I will take 1962 Paris any day. Or 57 Seattle.
-
Waiting for Columbus was mostly recorded at Lisner as I recall….
It might be the most famous and highest selling DC live album….
It’s very cool that DC embraced Little Feat more than any other city. Huge point of pride for the culture. Like Little Feat/Lowell George were musician’s musicians, DC in certain ways had a culture’s culture, if that makes sense (which I’m sure it doesn’t).
Anyway this is a great 1974 HFS Cerphe interview with Lowell George and Linda Ronstadt that captures the vibe

‘What’s Going On Live’ features Marvin Gaye’s legendary concert – the only live performance of his iconic 1971 What’s Going On album in full – recorded in February of 1972 at the Kennedy Center in his Washington, D.C. hometown, & notable as Marvin’s first concert after a 4 year hiatus. After being shelved for decades, the recording was eventually released on CD in 200
