William DuVall from Madfly is doing the singing duties. From the reviews I've seen, he seems to be the man for the job.

There was only one man for the job and he's dead. They were great when I saw them at the Clash of the Titans tour many, many years back.
-
^^^^
Was it the show in Baltimore?
I guess I saw a different band as I thought they were terrible, Slayer pretty much stole the show that night.
-
Portland, Maine. Anthrax stole the show on that night.

I agree that Layne isn't really replaceable. It would be like having the Smashing Pumpkins without Billy Corgan, or Radiohead without Thom Yorke. They all have their unique vocal tones which help make the band what they are.

While Layne Staley had amazing vocals, there was an incredible ammount of harmony between him and Jerry Cantrell. Some would argue that Jerry actually had the better voice, but not the same stage presence. Cantrell wrote the vast majority of the music and lyrics for the band. When I saw him play solo shortly after Layne passed they did several AIC songs and sounded amazing.

I agree that Cantrell also has a good voice and wrote the vast majority of songs and really has had some good solo stuff, I just couldn't picture him singing the lines that Layne sang, he just had a little more darkness to his voice.

I saw Cantrell back in like 1999 or something and he gave Staley a run for the money. I don't know why, but lately I have a lot of sympathy for bands that lose their self-destructive singers who seem to gain godlike status. If those bands want to close a chapter on the band in their own terms, that's fine by me. I have no issues with New Order playing Joy Division songs. If INXS wants a reality show to replace Michael Hutchence, more power to them. If the replacement singer sucks that much, the fans will let them know and that will be that. Van Halen fans might have felt betrayed after DLR, but Sammy Hagar still drew in tons of fans. BUt that third guy was where they drew the line...funny how some things work and others don't.
-
but can we agree that Audioslave may NOT play Rage Against the Machine songs??
-
LOL...that's totally different. Good point.
-
Again, I think something like Chris Cornell trying to sound like a pissed off Zack doesn't cut it either...but Scott Wyland doing Axl does work :)
I'm still wondering what the hell was VH thinking by bringing in Gary Cherone from Extreme! Extreme was a good band...well it was all Nuno on guitar but never would I think his vocals would work for VH material. That's when VH lost my respect.

A perfectly written paragraph. He fit Extreme songs perfectly but Van Halen????? What a joke.

when are they gonna start selling tickets for this show?
-
Tickets being sold on the alice in chains web page, www.aliceinchains.com (http://www.aliceinchains.com) - go on sale Tuesday at 10am
-
I am wondering how fast this will sell out.
-
I bought presale tickets thinking this would sell out and -2 weeks later- it still hasn't. Maybe do people not consider them the same without Layne??

I think that's exactly what people think.
-
So who is going to be singing for them? Lukas or Dillana?
-
I heard Jerry Cantrell playing while standing in line to get Wilco's autographs and pictures years ago at Bumbershoot. What an awful racket. Tweedy appeared to hate it as well.
-
I donā??t think anyone is under any false delusions that this show will be the same as seeing AIC when Layne was alive. I think some people see it as a chance to see the songs performed by the band and sung by someone that has their blessing. Itā??s sort of a way to celebrate the music that Layne created with some of the people that were closest to him.
On a side note I wonder if they will do any Mad Season songs? Wake Up and River of Deceit were great tunes.

This kind of reminds me of driving past the State Theatre last night and seeing the Dead Kennedys are playing in September. I wonder, should I go see them even though Jello is not with them anymore, or should I go see them for their name?.......I'm thinking I might go see them.
-
If you can ignore the vocal differences, the music would be a whole lot better than Alice in Chains.

i refuse to support the 'new' dead kennedys. jello is what made the band.
-
Jello with the Melvins is where its at you fucking dweebs.

So you're a fan of Velvet Revolver and Audioslave, are you?
-
I was comparing it to seeing the Dead Kennedy's minus Jello that plays Jaxx.
the collaboration I don't really care about, but as far as which fake-DKs yr gonna see, I'll back the Melvins as far as totally ripping it up, and having the "quirky" Jello still do his thang.
Save the audioslave slurs for someone else.
