i think the URL you posted isn't the one you intended to. it leads to a story called "The Homes of Rock: These three DC houses double as concert venues". nothing about 'snailhook' in that article...
but maybe i'm ignorant about what 'snailhook' means?

Post of the week.
But it will be a short lived reign with JT starting up tomorrow and Friday.

Snailhook is Scott V...right folks??
-
Even better, there's an article on roller derby coming to DC. Y'all should check that out. It's a lot of fun. I've been to every roller derby bout in Portland (Rose City Rollergirls) since May and love it. :D

This thread is about drugs, isn't it?

Damn. You got me going for a few seconds. I thought you meant Rollerderby Records but I knew that wasn't happening.

Nice article Scott, congrats.

somebody help me understand what this is about.
yes, i'm stupid. no, i don't do drugs (or at least am not doing any at the moment).

Snailhook (the guy who posted above) is a regular 9:30 forumer. He also happens to be the Scott mentioned in the article, and a promoter in the DC area. One of his little ventures is 611 Florida Ave (mentioned in said article). Does that help?

good article.
With all this fame, is Snailhook the new Thatguy?
-
I'm a friend of Dan & Maria Barry's - also mentioned in the article. Anyone here ever go to the Deej?

helps me a ton - many thanks. always learnin'.
cool, nice to see a forumer getting some attention outside the forum. i'll have to check out the 611 sometime
fyi, the article mentions www.claviusproductions.com (http://www.claviusproductions.com) but i'm getting a server not found/DNS error. however, http://claviusproductions.alkem.org/ (http://claviusproductions.alkem.org/) works fine.
so, to close the loop: snailhook = callat703???

no no, snailhook = snailhook (his board name) = scott
callat703 = on tap editor = chris
and nice catch on the URL; should have been .org not .com - got it fixed.
-

that shit needs to happen at 611.

i didn't quite understand what kind of music they have from the article ... treacly adult-alternative stuff?
-
Yeah, when will Snaily book Justin Timberlake, unplugged?
-
he booked Person at warehouse next month which is very timberlake-inspired
-
costes in november; i'm trying to put him at a venue that doesn't care if piss and shit get all over the place. not my house, man, i got carpet!
i've never been to the deej; most of the acts there seem to be pretty safe and mainstream, though according to their website, they did have eugene chadbourne once, which is totally 611 style. danielle howle has played there like three times and she's pretty good.
upcoming 611 florida shows:
8/29: Larkin Grimm (Secret Eye psych/folk)/Mike Tamburo (Music Fellowship)/Pepi Ginsberg
9/16: Free Folk Phantsmagory III w/ Little Howlin Wolf/PG Six/Fern Knight/Christina Carter/Max Ochs/Shawn David McMillen/Ilya Monosov & Preston Swirnoff/Lida Husik/Neg-Fi/Kohoutek/Death Chants
10/13: Ben Owen/Radio Ruido/sc.all
11/21: Charalambides (Siltbreeze/Kranky)
12/2: Peter Wright/Antony Milton (both Last visible Dog, New Zealand psych/drone)
if you come to 611 florida, be prepared to hear music that you won't hear anywhere else, some of it beautiful, some of it abrasive and ambiguous.

It's a mix, really. Mostly folk, singer/songwriter, and a little rock. I've seen the Old Ceremony play there a few times - a great band from Chapel Hill with a unique sound they self-describe as "pop-noir." I believe they'll be up this way (Iota) in October. They're one of the best live bands I've ever seen.
