Anyone ever used EZTorrent, the live concert trading/uploading site? From a message on its homepage, sure looks like the site's going down. Apparently a legal threat of some sort. Damn shame. There were a bunch of shows, old and new from the 9:30 and some of the other best venues in the world. I'll miss it if it stays gone. Anyone know what happened?

Speculation over on the Velvet Rope is that RIAA and the like may have put the pressure on.

Thanks for pointing out the Velvet Rope board. I didn't know about it. Seems that they've had the discussion I was seeking, with the predictable results. Record companies don't get it but have the dollars to put this kind of small-time, free site out of commission by threat of lawsuit--that seems to be the gist of things.
I saw the bit about Nirvana as well. I seem to recall that the Allman Brothers asked a couple of the BitTorrent boards not to post their live stuff because they might sell it later commercially, and the boards, like Sharingthegroove and EZT, readily complied. Seems a bit harsh that the threat is to shut the board down rather than remove/delete the offending posts.
As for the results, I hope there will be a new board to pop up in its place. Sharingthegroove mostly turned into thetradersden, but it too seems a bit overwhelmed right now. I figure as long as concerts remain essentially copyright-free, there will be an outlet for them. There's nothing like getting a copy of a show you were at or a band that you know to sound great live! Also, I have to say that downloading bootlegs never discouraged my cd purchasing at all. Quite the opposite, I thought that giving a questionable band a listen led me to buy some stuff I never would have otherwise.

well a big difference there is that the allman brothers have a policy allowing people to record their shows. i am pretty sure nirvana never did once they got big, though they might not have personally minded. there are quite a few bands that allow taping that don't want their shows put up on websites. DMB is another example. IIRC they stated they want to keep the personal interaction in the equation so they want people to trade.
trading is a good thing anyway. too many people bitch because they can't download things via bittorrent and call people who don't 'share' by that method 'greedy', but aren't they being greedy in demanding/insisting that they should be able to get whatever they want without putting forth any effort?
i think that this kind of stuff should stick to archive.org and the like, for the most part. BT is a great technology, but i'm not sure it's a justification for what EZT was.

www.thetradersden.org (http://www.thetradersden.org) is....er.....was very good until yesterday when the server got overloaded by EZT refugees. Its return is in doubt.
http://bt.etree.org/ (http://bt.etree.org/) is okay. Jam band-heavy, but with the occasional gem. Plenty of Wilco and Drive-by Truckers, some Tragically Hip, and most of the current QOTSA tour.
http://www.purelivegigs.com (http://www.purelivegigs.com) has a very, very limited selection, but the torrents go at blazing speeds.

Wow, that was even quicker than I imagined. Viva la revolucion!
And to stir up a can of worms, I would love to hear a Washington Social Club boot. I believe this has been covered on the board, but their live shows--even their original EP--are far better than their (IMHO) overproduced CD. Anyone heard of any live recordings from them?
