Got mine.  Thanks for the heads up.

Sooo...after years of fandom of both VU and much of his solo stuff this will be my first Lou Reed show.  Is he touring a new release and are his sets release heavy or can I expect to hear a bunch of older stuff as well?  Final question..does he do any velvets stuff?
Title: Re: Lou Reed
Post by: runwhiteyrun06 on March 12, 2008, 04:19:00 pm
He isn't touring a new release. His current big thing is he's touring his Berlin album in Europe with an orchestra and choir, sadly he isn't doing any of the Berlin shows in the United States.

I've never seen him live but from what I gathered be plays a fair mix of older and newer stuff. There should be a couple velvet songs, some 70s and 80s stuff, and a fair amount of post 1989 stuff.

This will be my first Lou Reed show too. I bought tickets for the Richmond show last week as the 9:30 club show had not been announced. Now I have to find someplace to sell my Richmond tickets.

I saw him years ago at the 930.  He opened up with Sweet Jane and closed with Rock and Roll.  Played a variety of solo stuff in between.  Good gig.  Those two songs were totally worth it though.

But if he had played ONLY those two songs would you have realized afterwards:

1.)  That you had orgasmed in your trousers?

2.)  Some people want to find The Creator and you just saw "The Creator of Alternative Music"?

3.)  That you had just seen one of your top 10 concerts of all time?

I have some bad news for you people.  You're all sheep.

Please some honesty, people.  Please.

To all of those who got tickets to this show:

Do you REALLY like Lou Reed and his music or are you going to this concert because he's LOU REED?

Hey, when I was younger I told people I liked music, movies, books, etc not because I actually liked them but because everyone said I SHOULD.  I really hated most of those things.

You know, like "'Kid A.'  Words can't describe the genius of those dorks from Oxford."

But I was so much older then.  I'm younger than that now.

 Brian

 P.S.  A few more questions:

1.)  Lou Reed?!?!?  LOU REED!?!?!?  Do you also make your own soap and shave with a straight razor (women included?)

2.)  Did any of you have some baby boomer "cool" uncle or English teacher that "turned you on" to VU?  And if so, are you still on speaking terms or are they still allowed to teach?

3.)  Wait a minute.  This doesn't have anything to do with "Juno" does it?

Are you implying that "Kid A" is vastly overrated by a lot of people and pretty much sucks?
 If so, I agree.

I don't make my own soap.  WHFS back in the day used to play Walk on the Wild Side.  My Mom and I would laugh at the lyrics.  We both thought it was a good song.  Then I found out through other bands who VU was.  I haven't seen Juno yet.  Is it any good?

If you like good BBQ with your Lou Reed. He's playing the Beale Street Music Festive May 2-4 with a cluster fuck of acts. Something the whole office can agree on from Dave in accounting to Jimmy the hipster intern.

ah, so that's the origin of all your current hatred - it's the consequence of your past feeblemindedness and lack of backbone.  tell me, was this period of inability to stand up for yourself during the time you were living in a sorority?

No, I enjoyed every single second of living in a sorority house.  I've seen the light with regards to "going along with the crowd."  It's obvious you and vansmack firmly believe the spew of bullshit that comes out of your respective mouths.  And isn't it hypocritical for YOU to call someone else spineless?  Do you not have a soapbox in your regular lives?   Are you that beat down by your respective wives/partners that you have to come on here and pontificate on every little bit of minutia that comes down the line?

Please, I need more of your opinion about your "problem with prostitution."  About 5,000-6,000 more words on that.  We all need to be enlightened.  You weren't once turned down by a prostitute were you?  Did your check bounce?  That could be scarring to one's psyche.

Sorority - Is that what they're calling Mom and Dad's basement these days?

There were a lot of hemp necklaces, dreads and patchouli oil.  That's all I'm at liberty to say...

If Lou had only put out one cd, his late '80's release 'New York' , he would still be a legend. Tours Europe all the time, pretty rare in the states outside of the occasional NYC gig. Got my tix today.

i might be wrong on this, but i am a warhol freak, and i'm pretty sure that andy saw right through lou, and saw him as a pompous, arrogant prick who thought his own music was god over all.  (sort of like david byrne.)

That may be true, but I bet he appreciated Lou's buff body.

Prepare to be viciously stoned for your views.  There's a lot of people around here who worship at the feet of Mr. I INVENTED ALTERNATIVE MUSIC AND HAVE THE EGO TO PROVE IT!  God knows why. Especially Julian.  I think his exact words were:

"Lou Reed could come on stage, smoke a cigarette and proceed to loudly break wind for five solid minutes and I would call it the best concert I'd ever been to."

Hey all, I've never been to a show at the 9:30 club and I'm trying to plan out my metro route so I can come from school. If the show starts at 7:30, any rough estimates when it would end? Before 12, right?
Title: Re: Lou Reed
Post by: azaghal1981 on March 22, 2008, 01:16:00 pm
Doors are at 7:30.

This will most likely mean Melt-Banana at 8:45, Lou Reed at 9:30-10. And yes, chances are the show will be over by 12.

Has a general sale ever sold out before a pre-sale?  Or have we just witnessed history?

That's what I was thinking. I wasn't sure if they hadn't updated their site or what. If those tickets aren't actually sold out, then hell, I'll buy one.
