'Client 9' had payment problems, a reputation for being 'difficult'
Dana Milbank, Washington Post
Tuesday, March 11, 2008
The woman accused of running a prostitution ring allegedly patronized by Eliot Spitzer told one of her call girls that the New York governor had been known to "ask you to do things that, like, you might not think were safe."
But whatever Spitzer - or, in the language of a federal court filing, "Client 9" - did with a petite brunette nicknamed "Kristen" on the eve of Valentine's Day last month at Washington's Renaissance Mayflower Hotel, it probably wasn't as monstrous as what he asked his wife to do Monday.
In the grand tradition of Idaho Sen. Larry Craig, Louisiana Sen. David Vitter and former New Jersey Gov. Jim McGreevy, Spitzer dragged his partner of 21 years before the television cameras at his offices in New York to announce that he was "disappointed" in himself for unspecified sins.
Silda Wall Spitzer looked like a victim of food poisoning as she stood by her man's side. She cast her eyes downward at the 183-word statement while he read it. She raised her glance only briefly, when the governor admitted he had "acted in a way that violates my obligation to my family," when he offered an apology "to the public, whom I promised better," and again when he pledged to "dedicate some time to regain the trust of my family."
The silent Mrs. Spitzer - Harvard law school graduate, corporate lawyer, nonprofit founder and mother of the governor's three daughters - then led Client 9 away from the lectern.
Fortunately for Mrs. Spitzer, the ordeal lasted only 67 seconds, and the governor, his forehead shining under the TV lights, took no questions. Unfortunately for Mr. Spitzer, this left unchallenged a rather lurid account of the events of last month at the Mayflower in the federal prosecutors' filing; indeed, Spitzer admitted he violated "any sense of right and wrong."
You're not kidding, Governor. He didn't even splurge on the Acela Express for the prostitute.
The filing indicates she took the 5:39 p.m. regional Amtrak down from Penn Station in New York on Feb. 13 for her rendezvous in Washington. But Kristen - described in the court papers as a "very pretty brunette, 5 feet 5 inches, and 105 pounds" - forgave the governor for this slight. Calling in to her, uh, dispatcher just after midnight on Valentine's Day, she reported that Client 9 had given her $4,300 for the session and down payment toward the next. He had used just two of his four allotted hours; he had to testify the next morning before the House Financial Services Committee on the "State of the Bond Insurance Industry."
Spitzer evidently had a reputation with the service for being "difficult" - a sentiment shared by many Wall Street executives he prosecuted - but Kristen was philosophical. "I'm here for a purpose. I know what my purpose is," she said in a phone call recorded by the feds. "I am not a ... moron, you know what I mean. So maybe that's why girls maybe think they're difficult."
And besides, Kristen went on, "I have a way of dealing with that. ... I'd be like, listen dude, you really want the sex?"
Thrice in his brief statement, Spitzer spoke of his affection for his home state: his desire to "bring real change to New York," to "rebuild New York" and to do "what is best for the state of New York." Even in scandal, he sought to patronize New York products, working with a New York company to have Kristen exported.
Yet Spitzer, in risking scandal in a hotel room, also had the good sense to take his business to a city famous for such activities. In selecting the Mayflower, Spitzer chose the same hotel believed to have been used for assignations by John F. Kennedy, and the very place where Monica Lewinsky stayed when she testified about her tryst with Bill Clinton. A couple of blocks in either direction are the Jefferson, where Clinton adviser Dick Morris met a prostitute, and the Westin Grand, where defense contractors were said to have provided prostitutes to government officials.
Franklin Roosevelt liked the Mayflower, too, albeit for more legitimate pursuits; he is said to have written the line "we have nothing to fear but fear itself" in Room 776, one flight down from Spitzer's room, 871.
Client 9 was having a bit of a credit problem with the service, the court filing shows. His "package" - cash payment - hadn't arrived and, for obvious reasons he preferred not to "do traditional wire transferring."
Just in time, the package arrived, and Spitzer, told that his visitor was Kristen, replied, "great, OK, wonderful." The service "asked Client 9 whether he could give 'Kristen' 'extra funds' at this appointment in order to avoid payment issues in the future," the prosecution filing says.
In extensive detail, the prosecutors' filing notes the financial arrangements ("Client 9 would be paying for everything - train tickets, cab fare from the hotel and back, mini bar or room service, travel time, and hotel") and the meeting logistics for Room 871 ("Client 9 explained that the door would not be visibly open, but if someone pushed it, the door would open.")
By late afternoon Monday, the Mayflower had stationed a security guard on the eighth floor to keep the scandal-minded at bay. Some of the camera-toting tourists had already dubbed it the "Spitzer Hotel." But Kristen and Client 9 were long gone. In their place, reporters arriving on the scene encountered a bit of fitting imagery for the New York governor: a meeting of the National Funeral Directors Association.

We both know that this was solely the purview of GGW.

They say it was the Fed's $200bn liquidity package that sent markets soaring this morning. The truth is that traders everywhere are simply expressing their joy at this hypocritical asshat's comeuppance.
-
The most amazing part of this story is that prostitution is illegal!

Sonofabitch! The over/under for "posts before someone argues for the legalization of prostitution" was set at 7.5 and I took over.
Guess I owe VB a twenty-spot now.

Look at the bright side -- at least your mom doesn't have to pay tax on her income.

My favorite quote from Wall Street this morning:
"We've all got a place in hell. I'm just hoping it's hotter for some than it is for others."

Am I missing something, or what does that Myspace link have to do with Spitzer?
Also, to go back to the original post, I think I'd have "payment problems" too if I were being charged $4,300 an hour for poon tang.

She's the pro.

she's cute. to a looks challenged rich and powerful man living in a security bubble most of the time, that's probably fairly cheap.

Man, I seriously get info on this board I get nowhere else!!!

If I had an extra $1000 i'd throw it her way. Very hot.
-
She is no more or less hot than any other reasonably fit girl in a bikini.
-
Dude - Look at those breasts!! Fucking AMAZING!!
-
I'm pretty sure I could charm her in a bar and not have to pay for it.
-
I saw the CNN interview with her family while at the gym. When I saw her brother with his pulled-down, horizontal-brimmed Yankees cap and his wispy little mustache, all I could think was "your sister's a whore". :)

i guess her r&b career is going to be on hold

i've been wondering: how exactly was he difficult? is spitzer some special flavor of kinky? he asked girls to sign fictitious plea agreements while going at it doggy style? what?
looks like the young lady's myspace has been deleted. i had a different link than the one posted above, had these pix on it:

actually in this age of instant celebrity, one would expect that someone is willing to get her signed and material released as soon as possible to cash in on this exposure... i.e. William Hung

Did this dude learn anything from the DC Madam Scandal of last year (http://www.washingtoncitypaper.com/blogs/citydesk/2008/03/10/spitzer-missed-lesson-of-dc-madam/), or Bill Clinton's affair with that intern? Boy, this guy is guilty, guilty of stupidity!

I'm not usually a breast man but 'sweet mary mother of jayzus, those are spectacular'
This begs the question....just what would you pay?
Personally I find nothing wrong with prostitution, but never used one so just pulling numbers out my ear. If she was hot enough I would probably be willing to go $100 for a night of lust but that's it...even at my age I could go out and spend less than that and end up in bed with an attractive woman, especially down here in Palm Beach!!
I was offered two 14 year old twin (girls) for 5 yankee dollar in Singapore one time. It was their father pimping them too!!

I think I saw somewhere the difficulty was he liked his interactions with these girls to be condom-free

We used to play a great game at the bar I worked at that was in a similar vein: What would it cost you?
We would rate the female customers on the "What would it cost you?" scale to to get them in the sack. It wasn't prositution, more like a realistic scale like "three drinks and you'd have her", "that one would definitely require dinner", etc.
The best part was how sliding the scale would become. If the parton became a regular and you had more than a cursory glance at their personality etc., it would adjust accordingly.

That's not really saying much. Her profile made it sound like she's come across a lot of dicks in her life (and I'm not just speaking literally), so all you'd really have to do is half-convince her you were different.
-

personally, i do have a problem with prostitution.
on a moral level, some girls are forced into the trade. a lot of other would rather be doing something else but have to for financial reasons. having sex with someone who is doing so under duress doesn't work for me.
but on a self-perception level, and this is what i really don't get about people who frequent prostitutes: what does it say about you the client? that you can attract a woman with money? wow... is that the extent of your game? for me, obtaining a lady's favors is a huge ego boost. somehow bypassing that with money would make me feel... cheap.
then there's the health concerns. condoms are very effective, but not perfect.
i've been plenty intoxicated and/or horny and had all sorts of pay-for-play offers made to me (especially in developing countries, where prices were low)... and not once did i think it would have been a good idea.
-
You pay for sex a lot more often than you think you do.
We all do....
-
This "scandal" isn't about prostitution in general; it's more about Spitzer specifically. This is about a guy who prosecuted prostitution rings and who campaigned against prostitution. One of the first laws he signed as governor was legislation that called for a crackdown on the demand for prostitutes and increased the penalties for patronizing a prostitute (1 year in jail).
True to his nature of believing that he is above the rules of mere mortals, he has now hired a blue ribbon team of attorneys to argue why he shouldn't even be indicted (much less prosecuted) under the exact law that he pushed for and that he instituted.
The sad thing is, the douchebag will likely walk.

And to answer Sweetcell's question, I'm guessing that statement right there is exactly the way most johns rationalize it to themselves.
I'm not against prostitution -- I think the government has no business making it a crime -- but have you ever been in a strip club and seen one of those guys who has like 10 women sitting around him all night? They're doing that 'cause he's peeling off $100 bills. And that guy always looks like he thinks he is absolutely the shit -- but a guy who has to pay for women to hang out with him, that guy is as big a loser as they come.
-

sure, there can be a financial aspect. a gift of flowers, a meal in a fancy restaurant, a drink in a bar... but it's not the only aspect. there is still charm, looks, conversation, making a connection, etc. either one of you could walk away at any point, as opposed to the other person being under contract.

sometimes, kicking the douchebag out of office and ruining his name is as good an outcome as us mere mortals can hope for.

and personally, i don't want to be that guy any more than a guy who pays for sex straight up.

haha you guys are all prudes (sweetcell esp)! If i could afford it I would pay Spitzer's chick for sex. I don't give a shit. It's none of anyone's business!!

if client 9 had been smart about this, he would had one of his cronies give her a job and kept here as his mistress... i'm personally counting down the days when the dems turn this country into france!
-
France? Cool! BRING IT!!!
-
I don't think he would be interested in a mistress. It's prostitution that he's into, not adultery. Which makes his ten times the douchebag.

Awesome
A) No money
B) Willingness, nay eagerness, to pay hooker for sex
C) douchey
No wonder you got a rustyorgan

I wouldn't go as far as saying 'no money' - $1,000 per hour whores just aren't in the budget!
And yeah, I would totally pay that whore for sex!

interesting - engaging in prostitution is ten times worse than adultery? (putting aside the fact that a married person engaging in prostitution is also committing adultery...)
i think that adultery (keeping a mistress) is worse - more of a relationship, most probably more emotion, and it's longer-term... seeing a hooker is a short-term physical thing.
only way that prostitution seems worse to me is the STD factor... and professionals make their their clients wear protection.
-
I agree wholeheartedly with sweetcell....sex is dirty nasty and makes you go to hell.
Now, I'm off to my Promise Keepers meeting, see you there sweetie!!

absolutely not. sex is awesome, mind-expanding, and the greatest thing you can do with another person (as long as it's consentual). sex can be dirty but only when you're lucky ;) in my books, sex is encouraged and will be until the day i become a parent (should be interesting, since i'm against abstinence education... for now).
marrying someone - making a life-long promise to them - then stepping out and having sex with someone else, now that's nasty. then again i'm not married, so i'm speaking for a group that i'm not a member of.
-
Marriage is kind of a bogus concept too, in my view, but that's a whole other discussion...

I was looking at it from the point that he's disrespecting women in general (half his constituency) by paying for sex with a woman. I was simply looking at it from the perspective that he's a public figure, not from the persepctive that he's a husband.
In terms of disrespecting his wife, sure, an adulterous affair of an ongoing nature is worse than a one time anonymous thing (discounting the STD factore, which you can't).

request denied: too little basis in the truth. 99% of the time, i speak for a group that i do belong to: "me". yes, we are legion.
not being a member of group doesn't mean one can't have an opinion about it.
and this, from the person who claims to speak "for the younger generation". sheesh. wait... aren't you, like, not young yourself?
