My friend was at the All American Rejects show at the Patriot Center, ick, and she went to the 930 Club tent and she said one of the guys told her that RHCP were coming to 930, of course i shrugged it off as an impossibility, even thought RHCP have played at 930, and it came back up today. i was searching for Incubus tickets and somehow stumbled onto their forums and someone had posted that they got an email confirming that RHCP were going to be at 930.
wha?
-
ick
-
RHCP are playing Verizon center and the show is promoted by IMP, who also operate the 9:30. The pre-sale info for the Verizon center show was sent out on 9:30 letterhead, and the Verizon center show is also on the 9:30 print ads -- so this may just be a little bit of confusion.
-
it's really gonna piss me off if people somehow confused the verizon centre for the 930 club, i almost slapped my friend when she told me they were coming to 930 when i knew for a fact thye were coming to the verizon centre.
it could happen, when John came out of rehab the Peppers played 930 the night before their big Japan tour. It was called a "homecoming" for John... who knows.

As Official 9:30 Board Slap Bet Commissioner, you should slap her. Hard.

i would, mostly becuase it's a major tease. Being in the same general vicinty of John would just make my....year. he's fantastic!
if they came to 930 i would pay a shitload to see them.
but...300 is a stretch for floor seats at Verizon Centre. yikes.

i was just being snarky with the "ick" ... i like frusciante's solo stuff a lot more than RHCP, and even that is pretty self-indulgent

$300 for floor seats for the Peppers? Are they serious? Does that come with sex and/or getting high with them? Good grief.

John is a god or rawk destined to go down as one of the greats. I think he's totally underrated.
but i'm a stupid Chili Peppers fan. ):

not at all, my friend signed up for the RHCP fan club or whatever and she got the presale password, but all she could get was nose bleed seeds, and those were 68$. apparently ALL of the seats between front row and main concourse are all up for auction on ebay.
oh, and the minimum bid is 90. on Ebay you can get 2 floor seats in front of flea for 125 each, sadly , that's a great deal.

i wouldn't say he's underrated, i think that anyone who knows his name knows that he's a badass ... an interesting question: what % of self-described RHCP fans do you think even know his name?

That's sad but true, my friend LOVES Anthony Keidis, she read his book and fell in love with him, she saw them at the Virgin Festival and, since she goes to school in Philly, she saw them with The Mars Volta. She said The Mars Volta was "Butt" and that John was "Good", i wanted to kill her because 1. she didnt like the mars volta 2. she didnt KNOW johns name 3. she's seen them more times than me and didnt start liking them until Stadium Aracdium.
for. shame.

Yabba dabba doo. This shit had me rolling. LOL.
Sometimes charisma carries you further as a lead singer than your actual pipes. (And I LOVE the Peppers, don't get it twisted.) I also second what Death said earlier . . . . Frusciante is approaching rock god status. He's been in a ZONE their last 3 albums. The band's evolved lately into some Beach Boys type shit mixed in with their funk/rock foundation.

Yup. They dropped right around the time I was in 8th/9th grade. Whoa . . . . Feeling old now . . .

I saw them on a triple bill with Smashing Pumpkins. That show was probably the nail in the coffin for me when it came to modern rock.

as a peppers fan, i take solace in the fact that my group's intelligence is still above that of incubus fans :)
frusciante is indeed a guitar god. just like a million others who were teens during the BSSM years, john (along with page) is who got me into playing guitar.
lolla'92 (RHCP, Ministry, Ice Cube, Soundgarden, The Jesus and Mary Chain, Pearl Jam) remains the best day of music i have ever experienced, in no small part because of the chilis' closing set (even though john wasn't there). this will kill what little cred i have here, but i'm looking forward to seeing them in january.

i suspect that those prices will drop in the days before the show. looks like everyone and their dog is re-selling tix to this show, and people aren't bitting. i predict an eventual scramble to dump those tickets.

Anthony Kiedis is a member of Mensa.

this happens always. I remember Radiohead tickets in Philly were $350 for a pair the week they went on sale, and then were down to about $200 the week before the show.

true, but i'm under the impression that this show is particularly over-scalped. a friend of mine missed the onsale so we were checking out the usual ebay/CL/ticket broker site. there are a LOT of tickets available for re-sale, an above-average amount it seems, and asking prices seem silly. some would-be scalpers will be left holding. radiohead stayed at $200 because it was such a small venue. my advice to anyone without tickets: wait.
related: Wired has an article about online scalping. moderatedly interesting, nothing new though. Diary of a Scalper (http://www.wired.com/wired/archive/14.12/scalper.html)
-
well, i meant that Radiohead went down to $200, the tickets were what? $100 a pair for face value? twice face is a good price in such a small venue, but it still dropped almost in half, the chili's should too.
I tried scalping Pumpkins tickets in Boston back in 2000 or so, bought 6 and used 2 and tried to sell the other 4 outside, no dice, i couldnt even GIVE them away...
so yeah, scalpers lose out sometimes for sure. and this could be one of those times. whos opening for them anyway?

i'm tempted just to go to the show because i know that might be the cheapest way to get tickets, day of the show at the venue you can haggle, maybe even after doors open tickets will drop easily.

my follow up story to this is that i once saw RHCP/Foo Fighters/Blonde Redhead in Providence and we didnt have tickets...waited til BR went on and finally this one scalper gave us 3 tickets for $20!!!! (this was actually the month after i lost out on the Pumpkins show)
(why did i go to so many crappy shows in 2000??)

this board has terrible notions, views, and misconstrued facts regarding ticket brokers, scalpers, and the re-sale market.

terrible meaning our views to them are very negative or terrible meaning they are extremely off base?
what i have offered in this thread has been my own personal experience, not a notion or view, and the facts are most certainly not misconstrued.
-
when i said terrible, i meant off base. incorrect. ignorant. untrue.
not negative. people who can't get tickets to a show they want to see and see other people selling them are allowed to be upset and negative. but that doesn't mean you're allowed to be ignorant.

whos being ignorant here? i am not sure what you are talking about. perhaps you posted this in the wrong thread.

i saw RHCP once and they all came out wearing only one strategically placed tube sock each. Missed out on rendition of "owner of a lonely boner" they did on early small club tours... Did I just really date myself?

Depends on where your hands were during the show.

Kosmo, was this at the Ontario Theater with General Public? I seem to remember the socks. I also remember Anthony K saying something like, "The English Beat aren't even going to play Mirror in the Bathroom" as he walked off stage.
-
Nope it was St. Andrews in Detroit... It was right after "Freaky Styley" came out and the band had fond memories of recording it in Motown with George Clinton. A couple member of P. Funk came out to share in vocals at one point...
-
So this thread has sort of been side tracked... Does anyone have a better idea of whether or not they will be there, and if so when, and how do you get tickets?

It hasn't even been confirmed if they are coming to 930, according to the RHCP message boards, which they linked me to THIS thread, they're not sure either. It could happene because the first show that RHCP played with a sober John was AT 930 the night before they went on their big europe/asia tour for Californication.
So...maybe for memories it could happen.

I wouldn't walk across the street to see them for free.
So, because they have fun they're overrated?

I've got no particular love or hate for the Chili Peppers. But it does seen like they've been taking the same song to bank over and over and over and over again ever since that Under the Bridge song like 15 years ago. It all just sounds like a rehash of the same formula.
But that's just me. Feel free to disagree.
-
I completely agree.
Wouldn't that be enough to cause at least some degree of hatred? Unless, of course, you like the song.

I can't really claim hatred on them now cuz they're just not that high on the radar screen. I never listen to fm radio or watch mtv, so I never really hear them. I've not heard anything off the new record, at least I don't think I have, but if I did I mistook it for one of their older poppy ballady things.
I have in the past, however, hated them for two things:
They let Dave Navarro, the biggest hostess twinkie mother fucker in modern rock, into their band for a little while.
And during my one semester in a college dormatory, the Mothers Milk record was the biggest thing going and everyone was playing it non stop to the point that I wanted to either blow up the building or jump out of the window.

So... regardless of your feelings towards their music does anyone have a better idea of whether they will be coming or not?
-
the peppers are scheduled to play the verizon center on 1/25. there has been no real info about a 930 appearance, only rumour and wishful thinking. *if* they played the 930, it would probably be some sort of "secret show" - which i wouldn't hold my breath for. sign up for 930 newsletters to stay in the loop (link on www.930.com (http://www.930.com) front page), but if you want to see them perform locally i'd get a ticket to the verizon show. and *if* they came to the 930, the tickets would sell out in less than 2 seconds and no one would get any (except scalpers, of course). so all hope is futile. happy new year.
-
i wouldn't put it past 930 to bring them here, but i wouldn't hold my breath. it just doesn't seem likely. although they did bring the foo fighters, and crazier things have happened. IF they do come to 930, expect EXTREMELY STRICT rules, such as will call only, 2 ticket limit, wristbands, etc; to prevent re-selling. If they do come to 930, it will be a TOUGH ticket. it's possible. but i would not count on it.
-
alright thanks to both who helped. I am actually coming all the way from Albany NY. RHCP did a secret show in LA a month or 2 ago. The way tickets were given out was actually at some local circuit city. I am wondering if the distribution for 930 would be the same? provided that they do infact end up there. Or would there just be an advertised sale?

if there is a show, i suspect sales would be through the usual tickets.com... but this show will not happen. one, it hasn't been announced and is generally unlikely. second, IF it does happen, you won't get tickets because of demand and ticket.com's limitations in times of surges. you've been warned.
