Plus Rubber Bullets and I'm DJing before and after the show
Also check out an interview I did with Radio 4 for BYT (http://www.brightestyoungthings.com/cale/2006/11/29/byt-interview-radio-4/)

We were listening to KEXP the other day and my wife commented on the band being played by saying, "They sound like a bunch of clueless 15 year olds playing in someones garage."...or something like that.
Turned out to be a Dismemberment Plan song.

I'm not a huge fan, although I do own a couple albums and dig them when they come up on random play, I honestly haven't spent that much time listening to them although I've been familiar with them for a while. I think for the most part they were a pretty beloved DC band right? Not that this necessarily proves anything, or that I'm trying to prove anything, but Pitchfork rated their album "Change" #53 on the Best Albums of 2000-2004 and "Emergency & I" #16 on the Greatest Albums of the 1990's...

There's reason enough for Rhett and the Bitch to hate the band.

I first saw The Dismemberment Plan very early in their career and always thought they sounded like 4 guys playing different songs at the same time. Later I was given a copy of "Emergency & I" and it all clicked. That is a great album.

Don't discount them on that. I did and regret it. Emergency and I, check some of it out on amazon or the like. Some great songs, only a few bad lines in the songs, but the playing is great.

Specifically, The City. That is such a good song.

i would say "spider in the snow" is my favorite off that album ... i think it sums up the experience of living in DC in your early 20s really really well
--------------------
The only thing worse than bad memories
Is no memories at all
From the age of 20 to 22 I had five friends
None of whose names I can recall
And as I would walk down K Street to some temping job
As winter froze the life out of fall
Yeah, I mustâ??ve been having a ball
Different scene outside your window now
Same VCR, same cats
Different people at the very same job
Similar alley, different rats
The trash goes out on a Tuesday now
You got to make a note about that
Yeah, this time youâ??re where itâ??s at
You canâ??t say it but I know that itâ??s in there
You donâ??t know it but I know that youâ??re scared
Obvious and lonelyâ??a spider in the snow
Now you find the very same pit still yawns
Deep down within the very same gut
The very same ghosts still seem to haunt you down
Down those lines you always tried to cut
You thought you just might need a little change
And now you find you got nothing but
How can a body move the speed of light
And still find itself in such a rut?
You canâ??t say it but I know that itâ??s in there
You donâ??t know it but I know that youâ??re scared
Obvious and lonelyâ??afraid to not let go
You canâ??t say it but I know itâ??s in there
You donâ??t know it but I know that youâ??re scared
Obvious and lonelyâ??a spider in the snow
