does ANYBODY in the ENTIRE WORLD know when the decemberists tickets go on sale? they have dates up on their website for the 9:30 club, but they aren't even in 9:30's "just announced" section and at this point, it's looking like i'm going to have to get up at 10AM everyday and call to find out if tickets are on sale. not only would this make me tired, but i think i'd also end up watching my sanity slowly shrivel away.
save me. the end.

Their 2 shows are centuries away. Sign up on the mailing list or check tickets.com Wednesday nights (it will show the ones on sale for the following day).
Also, there was a presale on the decemberists website last week but those tickets are gone.

check tickets.com Wednesday nights (it will show the ones on sale for the following day).
interesting - how is this done? go to the 9:30 Club's page on tickets.com and upcoming events will have a note saying "tickets on sale tomorrow"? or is there some other "upcoming events" page on tickets.com?
-
Just the 930 Club page on tickets.com around 6 pm and they will be listed along with the ones already on sale.

Knowing about the Sleater-Kinney show a month or two before it was announced and then finding out one day that tickets went on sale and sold out instantly taught me I need to watch the site like a damn hawk. But since I can't always do that, something tells me I'll be getting my Decemberists tickets off eBay as well. :(

I am working with The Decemberists in coming up with a poster for the show at the 9:30. It will be printed soon and to the club hopefully by early September. They will be available on my site http://www.eljefedesign.com (http://www.eljefedesign.com) soon after. Until then, enjoy the not-quite-finished-version.
And before you ask, a Patagon is a mythical person who were supposedly 12 to 15 feet high which is why the woman is so large...

Looks great el jefe!

That will look quite spiffy next to my Flight of the Mistle Thrushes poster. :D

Ditto!
Will these be on sale at the show or only from your web site?
-
Glad you like them, thanks. They will only be availabe on my site due to space issues. I send out an e-newsletter a week or so before the show announcing the poster is for sale so you can sign up for that and get a heads up. These will be a four-color silkscreen on thick, recycled paper.

My cousin is their drummer, so I'll see you all at the shows. My Aunt is flying out from OR for the Sunday show!
-
Anybody else heard the new album?
It may be a low point. Not bad; simply unspectacular.
-
This is the only show on the horizon (other than Art Brut) that I am excited about. I was really looking forward to their show last October but missed it when I caught a bug .
I used to listen to their NPR All Songs Considered show frequently. I believe that was recored in early 2005.

i read somewhere that it's more like The Tain than their other LPs ... does that sound right?
-
this is during CMJ, isn't it....
bummer.

GGW, I count on you for links to stream these new albums!! ;)
-
That is my understanding from what I've read. I haven't heard it though. I looked for a release date on allmusic but didn't see one.

Nope, CMJ starts the day after.

I think this is a riot -- this is the description you get when you Google 'The Decemberists' looking for their homepage.
The Decemberists
A few hours later, in a Turkish bath, they revealed their stories to one another between sips of a strange, tangerine liqueur.

THANKS, GGW....I can always count on you!

Dammit! Download limit exceeded on the second one, and the first one has a bad rip of a couple tracks.

Just check that thread later and I'm sure a new link will appear. Alternatively, it is reportedly on Oink, and will undoubtedly be on every other network within a day.

wow, you have an extremely charmed life that getting up at 10:00 a.m. would cause you to be so exhausted. I want your life, lyla!!

Oh my illegal :o
I heard an edited version of The Island on an internet radio station and it was completely awesome.
So, it sounds like the ticket purchase page is only updated every Wednesday; do I have that right?

How do you know this was illegal? Though I have no idea which station you were listening to and can't vouch for anyone at all because I'm sure it does happen, I do know for a fact that quite often bands will sometimes give pre-released or even unmastered music to various radio stations or DJs intentionally for promotional purposes. Even to some of the very little ones.

No, I meant that posting a URL of a full album rip here seemed not exactly legit.
-
Oh......okay. ;)
-

http://purchase.tickets.com/buy/TicketPurchase?organ_val=3595 (http://purchase.tickets.com/buy/TicketPurchase?organ_val=3595) does not list any Decemberists shows going on sale tomorrow. Try again next week and/or sign up for the e-newsletter and the regular newsletter. Refer to the FAQ forum for more info. The aforementioned URL will tell you what time tickets go on sale.

Man, thanks for commenting on that Bags. These kids today...

After a couple more spins, I may have to modify my opinion. There are no instant winners on the album, as there are on the others, but it's a pretty solid album. Definite '70s vibe going on with some of the tunes -- echoes of Jethro Tull on The Island..., disco-punk on Perfect Crime, a hint of Sabbath/Zeppelin on When the War Came. There's also the patented Meloy storytelling on other tunes. They definitely spread their wings much more on this album. A little bit of the Tain, perhaps, but not quite so bloated.
All in all, I think it's a strong effort. But I think some people might get a little put-off by the departure from their usual sound.

Tickets.com now has the shows listed and tickets are available (2 ticket limit). Not sure why the shows still aren't listed on the 9:30 website, though.

it means it's on soft sale :)
soft sales are not listed on the website,
just like the Trail of Dead show, or Joan Jett.
I checked and it looks like there is a 10-ticket limit.

got mine for both nights :)
