Anyone have an opinion on these bands:
Electrelane -- WOXY has been playing one of their songs and I like it. They are playing the Black Cat soon.
Deerhoof -- They got an interesting review in Sunday's NY Times - DEERHOOF "Milk Man" (Kill Rock Stars) is an album of rock music that sounds rethought from the ground up. The sound is feathery and self-effacing (Satomi Matsuzaki's limpid, childlike singing) and at the same time menacing and body-rocking (the battering swing of the drummer Greg Saunier, peppered with explosive rolls that clear a space around them). It's "art rock" (the nervous, spindly, Captain Beefheart-y written guitar lines) and Top 40 (one memorable line sounds like Journey). It's both very finished (control-freak alert: code orange) and very tentative (one track begins with a rough-sounding tape of a piano improvisation.) The music is incredibly well thought out, but that doesn't prevent it from also being smokin'.

I hear great things about Deerhoof live, their albums are ok, but a tad inaccessible at times.
Don't know much about electralane, although Bungle Bud was talking about them last night.

So Deerhoof is Walkie-Thirsty music?
They have some mp3s on their site (http://www.buyolympia.com/killrockstars/sid=319496763/Band=Deerhoof). I wasn't crazy about them, but I keep hearing about the band.

I think you mean noisy by that, and it is not quite so noisy. It is more the vocals that cause the inaccessibility issue. I can give you a copy of the last two albums next time I see you if you like. I have not hear the new one yet, but I believe reviews are saying it is a tad more accessible.
MP3s from new album -

So anybody heard anything off of the upcoming Elf Power album? Any good?

The new Deerhoof album may be a tad more accessible, but it's by no means top 40 material. They're still a very very odd band. I'm listening to the new one now, actually. And cannot describe it well at all. So I won't even try.
Speaking of live Deerhoof, it may have been posted on the live shows listing, but they're playing ottobar on the 21st of april.

Thanks, link was blocked by my web security team. I feel so safe and secure, good thing they prevented me from that evil Elf Power.

How about The Star Spangles?
They were on Letterman about a year ago (don't know how they got that gig) and are playing Velvet Lounge next month. Totally contrived, but fun.

I like Electrelane but did get a little tired of them about 2 years ago when 3WK played them a little too much. With that said, I think they will probably put on a good show and would like to see them.
