hmmm, we just bought tickets to Devotchka at the Independent for that night, i guess i'll just see the clov next time they come to black cat ... i'm really psyched about Giants/Dodgers the next night, you think I should wear my dodger-blue "Keep Garvey in LA" t-shirt?

I do. And the Venerables joined us this past April.

Hoya is visiting SF that weekend as well - which reminds me: sorry about not getting back to you about the Dodger game.  Seeing as how you plan to wear that shirt, I think I'll pass....

Dude, I'm totally there. But, it's supposed to be a secret, so shhhhhhhhh. Does this mean I might be able to finally meet the smacks? or the bedes? Though i think I did meet Venerable at some point.

C'mon Hoya, let's make a forum gathering out of it.

I'm also pretty pumped to be going to the Google happy hour show they are playing on Friday.

Was surprised to hear the KEXP dj say that Exit Clov was doing a gig in Seattle as we were driving the rental car somewhere around Seattle. We opted for the KEXP BBQ the next day, with Long Winters, Devotchka, Ghostland Observatory, and Thee Emergency. Long Winters were so, so good. Put them on your list of shows to see this fall.

Kudos to Exit Clov for getting gigs in cities much cooler than their hometown.

sounds like fun, but we already have tickets waiting for us at the Independent will-call, and i've been meaning to see Devotchka for a while now ...

Let us (or at least me) know what you think of Devotchka live. Though I still think they are great, seeing them four times in less than a year was a bit of overkill for me.

Your attendance is a secret or the show is a secret?  Because if the show is a secret then they should really stop putting those leaflets and flyers all over the city....

Anyhow, yes, I will be there and Smackette is pretty sure she'll be joining us.  Looking forward to meeting you.

I'd also like to be the first to start the rumor that Amoeba is moving to some sort of online sales.  I was making sure the Mountain Goats show is next week so I checked their web site last night.  I saw what appeared to be a beta of a search for music with an e-commerce component.  now the entire web site is nearly shut down.  They have a very poor electronic inventory system so I'm not sure how they are going to do it, but changes are definitely afoot.

My attendance is a secret. I don't meet up with the band till Thursday afternoon. I'm glad they are hammering the city. The Clov's manager is in SF, so he should be able to bring quite a crowd. So you know, I am the tall dude with a short hair-cut. And i'll be hanging out with the Asians. :-)

LA is great if you like plastic people, smog, traffic, and hardcore pornography.

First of all, I find beauty in weird stuff and happen to think this town is fascinating and always have.  It's not for everyone.  And second of all, there are plenty of great, real, non-plastic, non-condescending folks in LA - you just have to dig around.  But they're here.

So, i'm curious guys, what did you think?

My long weekend of touring with the Clov was cool. Google was amazing, i soooo want to work there. Thanks for coming out, it was nice to have some familiar folks, if not faces, in attendance.

They were awesome when I saw em in Chicago a couple days before Lolla. They covered "You and Whose Army." Did they play any other interesting covers in Cali?

they finished the set with "call me" which worked with their voices, even though they didn't sing the french parts, just went "ooooo, ooooo, oooooooooo"

i will say, i did enjoy their set.  the other 2 bands that got booked the same night- not nearly as good, to be kind about it.

i thought they were fantastic, they really know how to play a live set and throw everything they have into it ... i really liked the independent, we made friends with a bouncer and got up to the balcony area, which was nice because the show was definitely oversold ... a lot of disappointed people outside not expecting the show to sell out (is it the "little miss sunshine" exposure?)

fly-bar around the corner was a lot of fun too, good pizza

I'm sure this isn't going to please your girl friend that much, but I got a real Gwen Stefani vibe out of Exit Clov, and that's a good thing in my eyes.  Much more poppy then I expected and quite enjoyable.  They could rule TRL with the right management.

 The other two bands blew.

And you're a lot shorter than I expected.
