There are a number of smaller scale music festivals going on that I'd like to share with you as I know others too probably know of a few. I figured rather than making a lot of annoying indivual threads or letting these get lost in the Just Announced thread, I'd start one just for the little guys.
Let's save this thread for the smaller scale festivals that don't get all of the hype and let the biggies have their own threads. ;)
(I was going to post a poster with this one but some of the bands have changed since then. If a more updated one comes along, I'll post it.)
If you have any questions or concerns about any of the ones I've posted today, I have connections with all of them so could probably help you out.

Apparently not. They'll be on the West Coast at that time.
You know, it's seems that I too had seen them listed at one point. Maybe they cancelled out so they could tour out West.
You ought to list your festival in here too. ;)

Sure, absolutely it does!
I was just trying to be cute with my title. Should have left off the 'East Coast' portion so we can include smaller music festivals anywhere but we can do that anyway as we go along. I just thought that this would make for a nice 'go to' thread for us to help keep things a bit more organized. Let the Lalapolooza's, Virgins, Coachellas, SXSW and other really big festivals have their own threads since they are so large and well known. Even if we highlight any of the smaller ones with their own threads, it would be a good idea to include them in here too. ;)
-
Here's a perfect example of why I should have left 'East Coast' off of my thread title.

Wow, this looks great. Looking forward to updates.

How about some singer-songwriter types?
Will Travis Morrison be doing an all gospel set?

No, he won't be. And yes, we are working on some bands up your alley Rhett, though I think you would probably like Decibully.
-
Besides lots of very cool music, it's all ages, only $10, cheap food and drinks, plenty of free parking, 3 big rooms of shows, Snail's band, very friendly people and they even have cubby holes with couches for chilling out.
Also, I just got word last night that there is some kind of After-Party in the works but I don't have the details on that yet. I'm assuming it's public but can't swear to that as of now....so maybe I should shut up on that until further notice.
<img src="http://static.flickr.com/75/220307262_2b7547000c_o.jpg" alt=" - " />
And Rhett, please don't bitch about there not being any singer/songwriter types. It's not that kind of festival so please just stay away so we don't have to put up with your bitching about it being so loud and that the bands just stood up on stage playing and staring at their shoes (which is not always the case).

Matt: Hey bra', how we doin', man?
Karl: Alright.
Matt: It's been awhile, man. Life's so rad! This band's my favorite, man. Don'tcha love 'em?
Karl: Yeah.
Matt: Aw, man, do you want a beer?
Karl: Alright.
Matt: Aw, man. Wow, bra', this is the best, man. I'm so glad we're all back together and stuff. This is great, man.
Karl: Yeah.
Matt: Hey, do you know about the party after the show?
Karl: Yeah.
Matt: Aw, man, it's gonna be the best. I'm so stoked! Take it easy, bra'.
Mykel: Hey, what's up?
Matt: Not much.
Mykel: Um... did you hear about the party?
Matt: Yeah.
Mykel: I think I'm going to go, but, um... my friends don't really wanna go. Could I get a ride?

hah, i've just been listening to weezer lately and that little exchange immediately popped into my mind when i read your post ... still not sure if we'll be able to make it, but i'm hoping we will

So, I went to both the Popnoise Fest in Philly and the Walls Of Soundfest in Fredericksburg. Both were days full of great music at a bargin! Still don't have my wits about me yet.
Snail's band Khohutek really floored them at the WoSF! I don't think anyone knew what to expect but everyone was completely blown off their asses by them...especially, by Snail himself! All of you true music lovers really need to go check him out sometime.
Very, very slowly, I'm starting to see signs of life around cyber-space from those who attended the WoSF, all with very positive reports. We were all wiped out, except for Tommy who also put on the Popnoise Fest. Don't know where the man gets his energy!
The festival ended with all of The Antiques and Alcian Blue putting up one incredible wall of guitars by playing Slowdive's "Primal". Made for a stunning ending.
Everyone had a great time and we're all looking forward to next year.
Hoya, were you there? I was hoping to meet you.

Did she stop over to the WoSF? Maybe that's who I was dancing with in the ladies room.

thanks for the kind words, jag. that was one of our very best sets, and i think we even surprised ourselves at how well that came out. with 100% improv, you never know where it's gonna go.
best bands that night were a place to bury strangers and soundpool. antiques/alcian blue slowdive collab was great, too. most of the other stuff was mediocre and boring, too many fucking drum machines. stellarscope sounded like they'd be great with drums, but without, they didn't seem to know what to do.
sonic circuits next weekend!

Here is one we just had in Colorado that is now in its third year:
South Park Music Festival (http://southparkmusic.com/index2.htm)
And you get drunk faster because you are above 9,000 feet.

Of course a drummer would say that about any band who uses a drum machine. All drummers hate drum machines. LOL.
I thought that Grayland put on a good show too.
Sorry that Soundpool had to leave before I had a chance to introduce you. If you would like to book them, I'll get in touch with them. I'm sure they would like to play DC. Also, if anyone would bother to give you and I a chance regarding our recommendations, I know damned well that the average DCite would love Soundpool with their Ivyesque sort of sound.
Quite a shame that DestroyAllDreamers had to back out at the last minute due to illness. They were absolutely devastated that they couldn't come. You know full well that they would have put on one hell of a show! Can't wait to see them when they come down once their 2nd album is released. I will be sure to set you up with them. ;)

Cool. If you can, try to make sure you see Bright Channel. I think you would like them. ;)

I see Bright Channel all the time in Denver. In fact, I just saw them open for BJM. You should check out fellow Denverites Mocassin, they used to be called Nightingale.

Mocassin are great! Wish they would come this way.
