Awesome show. For an acoustic show, they definitely rocked out.
-
Yeah, great show.. They played a lot of tunes that they will probably never tour with again.. Marigold, Skin and Bones (said with a Maryland accent:-)), February Stars etc.. Dave is one funny dude..

How was the opener, Mr. Frank Black?

i thought the foo's show was amazing. song selection was awesome, sound was very good, dave was obviously having a great time interacting with the crowd. very personal show, entertaining both musically and inter-personally. since most foo fighter songs are written on an acoustic, even the rockers, their catalog translates very well for this type of performance. last night was memorable, in my top 3 shows of the year (thus far). i'm still carrying a light buzz from last night's show...
i was the loud-mouth in front who asked if petra was single, and got taylor to take a time-out. i promise to shut up next time :)

about frank black: t'was OK for me, interesting, cool lyrics, but the music didn't do much for me... acoustic punk, or sorts. i'm not a huge pixies fan and i haven't followed his solo career so i'm probably not the best person to ask. from a non-fan's point of view, can't say i was blown away. but was definitely entertained.

Missed Frank Black -- beer line was 25 minutes long.
The Foo show was great. Two full hours, some real gems beyond the songs from the acoustic disc of "In Your Honor." February Stars and floaty [sung by the amazing Petra Haden] were my highlights. Friend of a Friend has also really gotten to me over repeated listens, and hearing the story behind it added real poignancy.
Those songs, and all the stage banter/discussion/jokes/stories, made for a really amazing show (particularly amazing if you're a big fan). Dave treated this show almost like a Storytellers episode, but much more fun (and he didn't converse between every song). It's especially fun that he's from virginia, so he tells some great stories about being home again.
There were 8 musicians onstage, including Pat Smear and Petra Haden (I was one of about 7 or 8 who stood when Smear was introduced, and the only one who stood for Petra!). Grohl even mentioned that dog.!
So yes, it was an acoustic show with the musicians sitting, but they could really rip it up.
Also, though I'm generally weary of hearing "Everlong", the encore version was incredible. Grohl played alone for 2/3 of the song, then the band came in for a full on wash of music to wrap up the show. Really amazing.
Inevitably, I'm REALLY pumped for the electric show in Atlantic City this Friday. While I'm thrilled I got a chance to catch one of the few acoustic shows, I missed the energy of standing/dancing/jumping and singing along (loudly).

Frank Black was cool, I was happy he threw in two Pixies songs at the end of his set.
The Foos put on a sweet show. I was in the front row and there was a monitor partly blocking my view of pat smear and the guys in the back, so I was slightly upset that everyone chose to sit for the entire show. Even Dave told us to all sit down at one point! But the sound was surprisingly good for being so close to the stage, and it was cool hearing songs like floaty, feb stars, and best of you done acoustically.
Dave was pretty engaging too, the show had the feel of an unplugged/storytellers set. The best part may have been when he ripped on a couple for leaving to take a piss in the middle of a song.

Fuck, I didn't realize I'd missed so much of the beginning. Six songs, including "My Hero"? Now I'm even more pissed at myself for being so late. I came running in right before "Next Year". Absolutely amazing show, though, even though I missed part of it. Dave has always seemed like a really great, interesting guy; I really enjoyed his banter between songs. And no need to shut up, sweetcell, Petra's moment of overwhelming embarrassment was the best of the night. :) I know it endeared me to her even more than before. On that note, does anyone know why Petra and her band didn't play? I thought they were supposed to be a second opener after Frank Black. Not that I would have seen them anyway, since I got there so late, but I'm still curious.

I know it was mentioned at the show, but the info is:
November 7th, Live DVD and CD of Foo Fighters acoustic shows
Christmas, Greatest Hits album

Do ya?
...actually, my date from last night (sitting next to you) was wondering if you'd come over tonight and sing all of the songs that they played last night..
SINCE YOU SANG THEM ALL LAST NIGHT DURING THE WHOLE FUCKING SHOW! ;)

You mean this asshole had the balls to enjoy himself at a concert? And he was such a big fan that he sang along? That just makes me sick...

i know. she's been calling me. she's really sweet and all, but could you ask her to knock it off? i'm busy most evenings, and my vocal coach has asked me to rest more.

Well, I have to admit, that this was not the concert to sing loudly along to the songs. It was too quiet a show, so you'd be clearly bothering everyone around you. Check my 'review' above -- I whisper/sang along (basically just kind of hummed to myself mouthing the words). I'd be embarrassed to sing at any real volume -- and most of you know I don't embarrass easily.

Fire your coach. ...I forgot to add that your singing was totally off key. :p
