Hey guys, i know im a little off topic here with this one but here goes...
Taking my girl out for her birthday and would like to do it at a nice Italian Joint in Little Italy in Baltimore.
Any good recommendations? Price is not an issue. I used to live in Boston's North End, so the bar has been set high.
Thanks!

I like Casear's Den. Small, delicious, right out of the Godfather. I know the owners, it's a very nice little place.

go nowhere other than Aldo's (http://www.aldositaly.com) not only the best restaurant in Little Italy, the best one in Baltimore period.
and a hint, if you make reservations, ask to sit in the atrium, it makes the dinner twice as nice!
-
Take her to BOP over in nearby Fells Point. You can't go wrong with a couple of slices of their pie. Expensive restaurants are usually overpriced disappointments waiting to happen.

dude, you have problems.

too bad it's not d.c., because the best italian (in my opinion) is a place called La Perla, near 24th and penn. ave., nw. keep it in mind if you are in the district, ever. price is high, service is untouchable, setting is florence-ish. "mama mia, that's an incredible restaurant!" and stay away from filomena's in georgetown, on wisconsin ave. it blows, now. lost a star in the rating, big time.
i know this helps you not for baltimore, but i'm good at being a waste of time. ask sonic or miss marple. but seriously, consider that restaurant if you're ever in dc!
-
Thanks for the suggestions. Although, if i wanted a good slice of pie, i dont have to go all the way to baltimore. I dont mind spending good money on a dining experience. Word of mouth usually keeps my disappointements at a minimum. thanks again!

La Perla, near 24th and penn. ave.,
funny... we just had dinner there about a month ago. imo - not bad, not great.

oh well. i hated la auberge, this french cuisine disaster of a restaurant in white post, va, while others on here thought it was grand.
la perla is awesome, and i've been there more than ten times. never had a single complaint, and the food is only beat by one other italian restaurant in dc, and that is called "galileo," or perhaps even "i ricchi."
i just asked a baltimore friend your question and he suggests going to "the brass elephant" (not in little italy) which is the nicest in baltimore, or "la scala" (in little italy) which has a larger "italian" menu.

if you want to go to an "Italian Restaurant" in Baltimore, you dont go to Mount Vernon to the Brass Elephant so you can eat overpriced veal with a bunch of gay bike messengers.....
-
gay bike messengers? tasty. i like mine all white from lack of movement.
-
Go to Vacarros for dessert.

Boccacio's has a handful of awards and is old world/school styled Italian food.

Vacarros is an italian pastry shop, you can grab a cannoli and eclair or some great cookies or something. not something that will take too long. you could even get something to go!
-
wow.. man those two Baltimore restaurants are CHEAP!!
But is the pasta at least homemade???

I've tried about four different Italian restaurants in Little Italy and have been disappointed by them all. IMHO, Little Italy is way overrated and best avoided. The best Italian restaurant in Baltimore in my experience is actually on South Charles St. It's called Vespa.

Brass Elephant is definitely one of the top 3 or 4 best restaurants I've eat at in Baltimore, but I would not call it an Italian restaurant at all, although they do have a pasta dish or two on their menu.
-
Germano's is excellent. Been there plenty of times with no disappointments. Valeggia's is also good.
Not Italian, but McCormick & Schmick's seafood resteraunt located on Pier 5 on the Harbor is excellent as well.
-
I have had great times at La Tavola. Very nice.
-
As I said before, go to BOP instead.
Or better yet, impress her with a lovely extra special home cooked meal.

and you can watch the football games there at any time of day!
$2.50 for a slice of pizza thats 1/4 of the pizza, not bad!
-
Can I get pesto and sun dried tomatoes as topping options?

SURE CAN! you should try it next time you are there!

looks like its aldos. and sure, there are proba bly better options in baltimore outside of little italy and also outside baltimore in general. but that really wasnt the point. baltimore is the plan, stan. the acquarium, the lion king, the orioles game. and a good dinner, whathaveyou. thanks for all the suggestions. ill let you guys know what i thought of aldos, and that pastry joint. hopefully they have florentines. mmm.
-
Man, you really must love her, having to endure the Lion King.
I once went to London with someone I didn't love, and had to put my foot down on her desire to see the Lion King at something like $80 a ticket (or was it 80 pounds)? We broke up soon thereafter, thankfully.

Would beat the hell out of traditional British fare.

aldos was first rate through and through. food, service, atmosphere.
vaccaros or whatever that pastry joint is was terribly overrated.
thanks again for all the input. i highly recommend aldos for a special occasion.
