Too many. And this is just a partial list:
-----
Amy Millan - Honey From The Tombs
Broadcast - Future Crayon (B-Sides/Rarities)
Chad VanGaalen - Skelliconnection
Cursive - Happy Hollow
Early Day Miners - Offshore
Eric Bachman - To The Races
Headlights - Kill Them With Kindness
Jason Molina - Let Me Go, Let Me Go, Let Me Go
Lambchop - Damaged
Mountain Goats - Get Lonely
My Brightest Diamond - Bring Me The Workhorse
Nouvelle Vague - Brande A Part
Outkast - Idlewild
Ratatat - Classics
Razorlight - S/T
Snowden - Anti-Anti
Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin - Broom
Thermals - The Body, The Blood, The Machine
Uzeda - Stella
Zutons - Tired Of Hanging Around
-----
What to buy? I'm leaning toward Outkast, Eric Bachman, and Cursive...
-
I'm getting the Mountain Goats and I've promised Smackette the new Outkast.
-
None of the above.
-
I bought the Thermals and Mountain Goats today (along with Tokyo Police Club and the new Comets on Fire).
-
the new cursive album is amazing. i'll be picking up that and the new outkast, and possibly the new against me! live cd.
-
you forgot the new Casualties cd which is amazing i might add
-
the broadcast rarities album is very excellent. mmm, trish keenan...
-
Primal Scream "Riot City Blues"
-not their best by any means, but there are some quality rockers on the record.
-
The new ratatat is great. Wanna pick up the broadcast compilation too.
-
Radio Birdman - Zeno Beach
the first album of all-new material from Australia's Radio Birdman since their breakup over 25 years ago.
-
M. Ward's new album Post-War is out today. I really liked Transistor Radio, though after about a month or two of owning it, it disappeared into the stacks. I'll probably get it, along with the Thermals.
-
Not an album, but the new Burn to Shine DVD: Portland came out Tuesday. If you're not familiar with the series, bands from a certain city play in a house that is set to be destroyed/burned. This one has the above-mentioned Thermals, Sleater Kinney, The Decemberists, The Shins, The Gossip, Quasi and more. The DC and Chicago ones are worth a spin too.
-
M Ward's album came out as well. Anybody get it and have comments?
-
I didn't even realize M. Ward had a new record coming out.
some superfan i turned out to be.
seriously tho, he's one of me favorites.
-
i bought Early Day Miners and My Brightest Diamond last night. MBD is good on first listen, i'll spin the miners disc this morning.
-
I think M Ward came out only on vinyl on Tuesday, and the CD is next week for some reason.
My haul this week:
Pajo
Eric Bachmann
Chad Van Gaalen
Mountain Goats
What Make Milwakuee Famous
Banner week!
-
Rock N Roll Soldiers - Too Many Musicians Too Kill
came out. It is really good.
-
I sometimes worry that newer, hifi Mountain Goats borders on Dashboard Confessional territory, but damned if I can't resist it.
-
ex Morcheeba's singer Skye record came out as well...
-

How is this? I'm thinking this Friday's show with them and Sounds of Kaleidoscope could be very good.
-
The Roots
GAME THEORY.
its a classic.
-
I picked up Pete Yorn's latest, Nightcrawler, today. I'll probably get Ray LaMontagne's new one on Friday (aka payday).

It's pretty frickin' awesome. Like a giant '70s stew topped with a heaping dollop of noise.
I think it's a great improvement over Blue Cathedral.
-
Pet Sounds - 40th Anniversary Edition out this week. Just bought it on vinyl:
<img src="http://eil.com/newGallery/Beach-Boys-Pet-Sounds---40th-367724.jpg" alt=" - " />
-
the single best album of all time.

Any idea what's going on with this one? I went to Crooked Beat on Sunday and they said they think the CDs been postponed.
And has anyone heard the Dirty Pretty Things album?

Amazon is selling the M. Ward disc.
I have the DPT album. I played it a couple times and it's already fading. If you liked the Libertines, this will be appealing.
Iron Maiden's new album came out yesterday. Was hoping to read some reviews before picking it up, but it's only 12 bucks at Borders so what the hell.
-
The M. Ward is definitely out, my local record shop has quite a few copies of it.
The new Blind Guardian came out on Tuesday. Hell, yes.

Jason Molina is not one to settle. Throughout his musical career of 12 plus years under his given name, Songs: Ohia and Magnolia Electric Co., he has lived in 9 different locations and has had a dozen different backing bands on record in as many different recording environments.
Fading Trails represents 3 of these incarnations and 4 of these environments. Composed of recording sessions Molina and company did with Steve Albini at his Electric Audio Studio, David Lowery at his Sound of Music Studio, and at the famous Sun Studio in Memphis, Tennessee, Fading Trails also features songs from the home recorded Shohola sessions. The essence of these recordings were extracted to create one cohesive being and thus defining what Magnolia Electric Co. truly is. Something that is hard to define. One head, multiple bodies...the opposite of a hydra head.

You shouldn't need to be ordered to get anything by The Decemberists, it should just be automatic. :)

BECK's THE INFORMATION DENIED ENTRY ON UK CHARTS
Beck's The Information was released Monday, October 2 in the UK (and was released yesterday in the U.S.).
Come next week, no matter how high its first week sales, The Information will not be charting in the UK due to a bizarre ruling by the UK's Official Chart Company.
According to the OCC, The Information's packaging innovations--which have drawn early raves such as "Bonus points for the accompanying DVD and stickers that let CD buyers create their own customized covers" (WIRED)--render the record ineligible to chart in the UK.
Ironically, the DVD of homemade videos for every song on The Information and the four random sticker sets designed by artists handpicked by Beck have been construed by the OCC as an "unfair advantage"--rather than what they actually are: unique and forward-thinking additional facets that expand the album experience beyond the purchase of a plastic disc.
Beck is currently on tour in the U.S. through late October.
-
I'm just as diligent. I just turns out I'm always doing it wrong. :D

This is a longshot but has anyone else picked up Lindsey Buckingham's new one? There are a couple of good songs on it but so far it hasn't wowed me.

Got these from eMusic (as well as brand new Lemonheads, Joseph Arthur, Koop and Veruca Salt). The Decemberists album, being their major label debut, is their first album or EP not available on eMusic...

New today
IV Thieves - If We Can't Escape My Pretty CD
IV Thieves - If We Can't Escape My Pretty CD If We Can't Escape My Pretty is the startling debut by the gang that was originally spearheaded by vocalist extraordinaire, Nic Armstrong (then billed as Nic Armstrong & The Thieves). The young band hit the road where they developed quickly into a democracy of four unusually talented songwriters and singers, hence the name change to IV THIEVES. Whereas the first album conjured the halcyon days of British blues and pop in the 60s, this new platter zooms toward the future in an explosion of rabble-rousing performances, outrageously versatile vocalizing and bulletproof songwriting.
WOO HOO
-
Also out today:
Billy Bragg: Don't Try This At Home (remastered with bonus tracks) [cd]
Billy Bragg: England, Half English (remastered with bonus tracks) [cd]
Billy Bragg: Volume 2 (box set) [cd]
Billy Bragg: William Bloke (remastered with bonus tracks) [cd]
Billy Bragg: Workers Playtime (remastered with bonus tracks) [cd]
Tragically Hip: World Container [cd]
-
Have to put in a plug. Our CD comes out today as well.
Soft Complex - "Barcelona"
And, as a nice little perk, we got this tidbit of press:
Spin.com Band of the Day (http://www.spin.com/features/band_of_the_day/2006/10/061016_softcomplex/)
-
There's a reissue of Tim Hardin's awesome 1968 live album out today. One of the best folkies ever, recently revived in hipster circles by Okkervil River ("Black Sheep Boy"). Melody had a copy, at least.
-
Also out today:
Squarepusher - Hello Everything
LCD Soundsystem - 45:33 (through itunes)
Love the new squarepusher. It's his best since the late 90's (Big Loada, Music Is Rotted 1 note, Hard Normal Daddy) IMO.
-
A few others:
Badly Drawn Boy - Born In The UK
Dosh -The Lost Take
Jeremy Enigk - World Waits

DulceSky - Lands
And the 2 that I'm most excited about are:
The Daysleepers - The Soft Attack (EP)
CDBaby has already sold out of their copies in less than a day with more on the way but Tonevendor just put up their stock.
Never Lose That Feeling Volume 2 (Various Artists)
-
Was very happy to see on Pitchfork that Clinic's new album is out, and that it's a return to their more rocking sound. No indication of when it's released in the US, so I ordered the import from CDWow. Looking forward to that.

Well I'm buying the IV Thieves based on being wowed by the new material when they played with the Pretenders, it would be a bit silly not to based on a review. Even if the album does disappoint that wont stopping me from going to see them live again.
I pulled download four tracks off of eMusic to preview the album and will concur that it sounds a bit Oasisesque. However I rarely listen to them and found based on a couple listens to the tracks them to be more compelling than what I've heard from Oasis. I wonder what impact losing the groups original drummer had on the overall sound, based on what Nic told me he was asked to leave the group and is now off wandering being self destructive there.
-
I find that Paste is more critical then most in its reviews, most albums get three stars reviews and below. Which is good because it makes want to read the four star reviews as potential things worth looking into further. I found out about Van Hunt that way...
And if they came the IV Thieves a 1.5 I can only imagine how the Driveblind record will be received, I suspect several pitchforks will be sharpened over that one. It wont me make enjoy the band less, just might me less likely to cheerlead for them.
-
Just found out that the Annuals' CD, Be He Me also came out this week. The songs on Ace Fu's site (http://www.acefu.com/artist.php?bid=301) sound really good. I'm excited to see em open for Tapes 'n Tapes.

Do you think this Tapes show is going to sell out? They had such a loud buzz going this summer, but I've not heard much about them lately. I really want to go to this show, but I'm also looking forward to a fun Halloween night with the kid, so it might be a last-minute decision to go.

Yeah, it does seem the buzz has died down quite a bit. I kind of doubt it will sell out. I'm actually swinging by the Black cat tonight before the Wilco show so I'll try to find out what ticket sales are looking like.
They're really good live. I recommend checking em out, as well as Annuals.

I've been loving that Tom Waits set. Was kind of looking forward to that Dark Meat album and felt let down by it.

The Magic Numbers - Those Brokes

I thought that while the new Magic Numbers was released in the UK in November, it won't be released stateside until Feb. 20, 2007.

And if they came the IV Thieves a 1.5 I can only imagine how the Driveblind record will be received, I suspect several pitchforks will be sharpened over that one. It wont me make enjoy the band less, just might me less likely to cheerlead for them.
i'm with you here.
i've been a paste subscriber for the last 2 years and i love it. i picked it up when wilco was on the cover, i believe, and haven't put it down since. i think the writing, in most issues, is decent to really good, and the mix CD in every issue usually includes fantastic music. plus, the review system, as mentioned, is better than 98% of pop culture magaazines. I think i've seen like maybe 3 4 star reviews since i've been reading.
-
On the other hand, virtually every record in the new issue gets three stars. Not a very good way to differentiate...
-
yeah i noticed that... i suspect it has to do with the fact that fewer new albums get released towards the end of the year and whats left over isn't exactly the cream of the crop.

Hmmmmm. You're right. Interesting. Apparently the record store from which I receive weekly e-mails must have imported some copies to sell. That explains why it's so expensive... They got the title slightly wrong, too (which I copied and pasted). It's Those the Brokes. Anyway, it's too bad I don't live near there anymore, or I'd be scambling to get a copy before they sold them all.
Perhaps I'll import one myself, then. It's been out in the UK for almost a month, something of which I wasn't aware.

i am listening now, its every bit as good as the first one. import it, download it, whatever, but you should'nt wait til next year to hear it!

the Mark Kozelek live CD has some pretty wonderful songs on there. It's funny, I lost interest in the Red House Painters with "Old Ramon", but the live acoustic stuff is great.

This is a very, very good remastered version of the origninal with a couple extra songs. The original itself is great. There are actually 2 original versions. One with a blue cover and one with a green. I got the green one from the drummer only to find out later it's the much earlier and rarer version. Contains a song they had to remove due to copyright issues, solely for title name. In any event, I highly recommend this release.
Christine, they would do very well with the sets that you play. ;)

Hammock also gets a super high recommendation from me. Instrumental, electronic, kind of ambient yet full of musical landscapes. Very good musicians. In fact, in the past, they had been commissioned by NASA to create music to have beamed up to the astronauts while in space.
If you haven't heard their first release, Kenotic, that too is superb.
If any of you have bothered to listen to my radio show, you may very well have heard both of these bands in one edition or another.
