So what's the opinion on these guys? Should I get there early for the Bloc Party show, or just spend another couple of hours playing Sudoku (http://www.sudoku.com/)??
-
Engineers is quality stuff. Kind of has the early-90s shoe-gazer vibe. I could see them sounding very good live.
-
If I could make it down, which I can't, I'd go solely for The Engineers. Very much wish that I could be there just for them. But if you are the rocking type who falls asleep with a little dreaminess in your music, forget it.

I got turned on to this last month while working in Europe. Everyday I curse the name of my colleague who introduced me to it.
It's a scheme by the Chinese to decrease Western productivity.

Automato are a group of white rappers whose record was produced by DFA (James Murphy of LCD Soundsytem and that ex-Mo'Wax dude).
-
I just took a listen to both of them....I think I'll be drinking some delerium tremens at cafe st. ex instead of seeing them....
-
Engineers were very good live...any idea where to get their latest CD in DC? Only selling the vinyl last night and the US iTunes doesn't have their albums yet.
-
I got there in time to catch both opening acts...not totally turned off by rappers, but it just got so darned repetitive, I got bored. The Engineers were awesome. I'm gonna bet we'll be hearing LOTS more about them. I'd also like to know how to find their CD...

I've heard Engineers a lot when listening to woxy.com, sorry I missed them, glad to hear they are good live.
Their album gets released in the U.S. on Tuesday. You can go to their site and see videos and such.

Now there's a coincidence for you: doing my morning rounds of websites; go from here to Pitchfork, and there's the review for Engineers.

It seemed to me that Engineers was trying to emulate that "oceanic rock" sound purveyed by Ride and others 10+ years ago. Walls of shimmering guitar with plenty of feedback. They seemed up to the task, but I didn't necessarily hear anything new from them.
It is strange, I remember seeing the Engineers album on ITunes a couple of months ago, but it is no longer there. Now I see that the US release date of the album is June 21.

The Engineers did *sound* excellent last night, have to say. But not my thing...I would very rarely find myself in the mood to listen to them. Props though.
-
Thank you Arlette, I agree with the Pitchfork review. I'm into many different kinds of music - and go to LOTS of live shows - but on Sunday morning, I'll be putting on The Engineers with my old standby line up of the Verve CDs for my listening pleasure!

Engineers sounded like Ride all over again to me. They do what the do rather well, but it's not exactly my bag. I enjoyed Automato about as much as I would enjoy any hip-hop group, which is about the level of mildly amusing.
