tickets say 8pm.  i'm guessing it's a schedule something like
 9pm CvB
 10:30 MM

i hope it's not much earlier than that.  i work till 930 tonight.  dang.

i'll be there.  may miss half the show, but i'll be there.

i went last night in norfolk.
 great show on both ends.
can't say i'm going to miss going to DAR tonight though.  if it were 930, i'd probably go even though i'm leaving at 7am tomorrow (with a 12hr drive ahead of me), but not dar.

any hints about last night's setlist?  standouts?

i'm going in hopes of hearing just three songs...
 cowboy dan
 the stars are projectors
 trucker's atlas

a little out of date, but  these people are insane. (http://www.modmouse.com/scrap/Setlists.htm)

it looks like you just can get tickets through ticketmaster.. so I think I won't be there tonight and I am going to miss a great show.. anyways, I got to know yesterday that Modest Mouse is playing here, so it's all my fault. ;-(

Nope, going to see MM in Philly on Saturday instead. Can't stand DAR. Bloc Party tonight for me.

i talked to modest mouse's sound guy before the set last night and after the show he walked over and handed me the setlist:
 third planet
 the view
 black cadillacs
 interstate 8
 doin the cocroach
 satin in a coffin
 bukowski
 tiny cities
 dramamine
 here it comes
 good times
 oceans
 breakthru
 float on
 world at large

i wouldn't expect the exact same setlist. i  saw the set for the show on 6/6 and it was significantly differen than last night's.
i'd like to catch another show on this tour, but that's not going to happen.

There are tickets a'plenty on Craigslist (http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/cgi-bin/search?areaID=10&subAreaID=0&query=modest&cat=tix&minAsk=min&maxAsk=max) selling for face value or less.  I would also bet you could pick up a discounted ticket outside the show tonight.

I wouldn't count on that -- DAR tickets often list show time, which is the actual start time.  It operates more like a theater than a club.

That's what I figured, and the reasoning for my 7:00 doors 8:00 show comment. I'm going with that.

Looks like everyone hates DAR. They need to stop having concerts. I was so mad I had to see Pixies there.

well, it looks like there are seats.. that means for me I am not going either.. besides that I just got into Modest Mouse so I need to listen to the older records first until I am going to see them. looks like I am going to wait, too..

playing devil advocate... and the alternatives to DAR are?  besides the various Gyms/Arenas in the area, the odd show at the Warner...  how big is the new Strathmore venue and how will rock shows sound there.  DAR gets used in part because its calendar farther in advance than  Patriot Center.  Merriweather could be used as alternative for only pavallion shows.

i'm to tired to proof read...

 rewrite.

promoters can book shows at DAR farther in advance because it doesn't block its schedule awaiting the annoucement of sporting event schedules like the Patriot center does for the teams that play there.

 better?

So

The Music Center at Strathmore - capacity 1976
 Constitution Hall - Capactiy 3700

That equals 1700 people moaning about not being able to get tickets to see <insert flavor of month to big for 9:30 and to small for Patriot Center>

Too big

 Too small

 C'mon Kosmo, you're a high school graduate, aren't you?   :p

Instead of a large venue in Philly, Modest Mouse are playing 2 nights at Electric Factory. Would that have been a possiblity at 9:30?

well, the only thing i've been to at DAR thus far has been a high school graduation...so...

i'm hoping it's not too bad.  modest mouse should play a great set regardless, right?!

what about bender? seems to comparable in size, has seats if folks want to sit down, a big area for general admission. i haven't been to a show there in ages, so i don't know about the sound, but it can't be much worse than DAR, right?

No, it's meant to be a dance club.  Man, 60% of that place has shitty, shitty sight lines.

well Nation isn't a consideration as it not the size of DAR... and Bender can't any better than for rock shows acoustic wise... so does Consitution Hall have a lousy reputation for Classical Music or is it just rock shows it has a bad rep for...

you may complain about dar up there (and i hate the venue) but we don't have any venues down here (richmond) that is around the size of the 930 club anymore.

well, the show was great.
event staff = a little anal, but otherwise, they played great.  camper was great, too.

i just...i really don't like sit down concerts, i can't get into the music as much.  i stood up a little but sat down because i didn't want to be "that guy."  then i couldn't see because the dude in front of me stood up, sat on my friends lap the whole time, and then eventually we just got up regardless for the encore.

 it was good, though!
Title: Re: modest mouse
Post by: jkeisenh on June 17, 2005, 09:05:00 am
i had really perfect "seats", tho' we didn't sit, and I have to say, I found much of the concert rather boring.  The guys didn't move or interact on stage, the crowd couldn't get into it because of the damn seats, and the long between-song pauses just really kind of killed anything they got going.

truth be told, it wasn't until they played Tiny Cities that I was glad I went.  But Tiny Cities alone was so good that it made me feel like the show was worth it.
Title: Re: modest mouse
Post by: twelsh737 on June 17, 2005, 09:39:00 am
This was the rare time that I enjoyed having a seat. I probably was not suppose to be out at a concert anyway so being able to sit down ever so often was a good thing. As for the show, it was pretty much what I expected. They played mostly all of the new album, which I assume a large portion of the people wanted to hear. What up with all the people who bought a t-shirt and then put it on right there? It was like a sea of green shirts in my section.

I was siting in the upper level and I would say that within a song or two after Float On (The played another song from the newest album immediately after Float On) that I probably saw somewhere between 20 and 30 people leave.

Was the "thank you for the tepid applause" comment an indicator?

I thought they put on a good show notwithstanding the lack of audience appreciation.  I liked the visuals as well.

I was telling my friend that as I was waiting for her to arrive that the crowd was reminding me of a mall on friday...so very young

I was kind of disappointed with the top-heavy set list off of good news...there were some of us there who wanted more of the older stuff, lol

and yeah, I got the vibe that the campers werent really happy to be there.....but hearing take the skinheads bowling was worth it

Agreed. I walked in when they were making the powerpoint presentation comments (not sure how much I missed). But TTSHB was awsome. I started mothing the words and those around me just had blank looks on their faces.

god . . . you people need to go to concerts where laziness isn't an issue.  if you wanna stand during a show, because you like music being meant to be stood for and grooved to, then tell the old codger, a-holes behind you to stay home and watch vh-1, then.  concerts aren't the opera, folks.  there are seats at mci, patriot, nissan, merriweather, pier six, others.  how many people just sit there throughout the show, complaining?  dar is a great place to see a show, you underground "i'd rather be at a dirty club" snotty bastards, and the only time i sit, is when i'm tired of standing.  who cares what others think?  an usher told me to sit once at a show, and i pulled out my ticket, showed him my seat number, told him i paid sixty some dollars to be there, and i was going to stand if i wanted to.  if the people behind me wanted to complain, they can stop going to concerts.  he said nothing else.  you people have become slaves to what others think at shows.  "oh, he's dressed in a stooges shirt; he must cool."  no he's not; he could be a total dork.  "oh, i don't want to offend anyone with my 'not hurting or bothering anyone by wanting to simply stand and dance at a fricking show' attitude."  whatever!  go see polka music, if that is how you act.  they even stand and party down at country music concerts!

if some loser with a hat on backwards and a sam adams at the nine thirty club asked you to get out the space you are in, because they didn't like you standing there, what would you do?

Just saw em in Philly. I thought it was a really good show. Tiny Cities and Paper Thin were definite highlights. I don't think they played anything from Lonesome Crowded West. Would like to have heard Trailer Trash...
Title: Re: modest mouse
Post by: lbcardoni on June 20, 2005, 01:03:00 pm
they did play trailer trash last night...it was the third or forth song.  and yes, the kids found a way to MOSH to that song too..thank god the balcony at EF was 21+
Title: Re: modest mouse
Post by: amnesiac on June 20, 2005, 02:39:00 pm
I went to the Saturday show. We definitely didn't get Trailer Trash. I do like how the balcony is 21+ and how they have servers bringing you drinks. I got there early enough to get a spot right on the railing, but would still prefer to be down on the main floor.
Title: Re: modest mouse
Post by: lbcardoni on June 20, 2005, 03:47:00 pm
yeah, we got there ealy too and sat on the railing right above the sound board.  the servers were cool, but they got annoying after a while, since they seemed to all ask me if i wanted a drink every 5 minutes.  last night they played a good variety of stuff from Lonesome crowded west, moon and antarctica, good news, and some other randoms.  but if they had played shit luck..that would have been it....

it amazed me that there were so many people moshing and crowd surfing.

there was also a fight in the crowd during CVB's set.

david said he wasn't suprised that there was a fight in philly.  they replayed the video of a guy fighting while wearing a santa outfit at an eagles game again.
