Post by: sonickteam2 on June 20, 2005, 08:22:00 am

Sonick:  I should have known; we share alot of fav groups. I'm gonna run down to Charlotteville for their show at Starr Hill on 6/28...their original plan was to co-headline a show with Robert Plant - and I believe there are a few venues where they are together - but no joint marketing/ads, etc.  He is a big fan of TSOOL.  Their label put the kabosh on that...a typicallly clueless maneuver by the suits...I believe it would have boosted both their ticket sales.

If anyone has a chance to see them at the Knitting Factory for the midnight show on 6/26, do so.  It's their fav venue, some really devoted fans show up; its a tour tradition for them, and they always play a kick-ass show!  I really like their new CD, Origin I.

Of course they are low.....no publicity,Monday night in Baltimore.....not exactly a recipe for a sellout....it's a damn shame,though.....I'm going to try to make it up,since their last show at Fletchers that I attended was super fine!....Another private show for a few friends it looks like.....Hope they go on a tad later so I can crash a bit before the trip to Btown..

I'm going to try to make this one....if I leave the homestead about 7:30 I'll be there at 8:30 in time for the band.....I better not bring my camera or have my shirt untucked when I enter the club so I don't get booted out....according to the FAQ's.......

hahaha, i never noticed this, but you are right!

and they wonder why their ticket sales are low, i mean this IS Baltimore here people. and no, I am not tucking my shirt in, and i would like to see them try and make me!

 What is the dress code?

The Power Plant Live dress code is:  No excessively baggy clothing.   No shorts below the knee.  No work boots.  No athletic wear (jerseys or sweats).   No ripped or torn clothing.  No bandanas or other headwear.   All chains must be tucked in.  Shirts must be tucked in.

What really makes me laugh is when I see dopey middle aged guys at the gym tucking their t-shirts into their shorts. Sometimes in the locker room you see them tucking their t-shirt into their tighty whiteys.

Sounds to me like someone is spending a bit too much time watching guys get dressed at the gym.

Have you considered a membership at Results?

This insinuates to me that there are gang problems in Charm City...is that the case?

well, there are gangs in Baltimore city and in certain areas, sure.

but i dont see the Power Plant live, where there are many yuppie bars (BAR Baltimore and Have A Nice Day cafe) having many gang issues.

plus, which show are these gangsters most likely to attend?  Rick Springfield? Richard Marx? or perhaps, the Indigo Girls!!!!!!

yuppie bars?  last time i was there (a few years ago), they were trashy, scantilly-clad-roaming-shot-girl type bars

I hear you, sonick, but nearly all the restrictions are gang-based....pocket chains, baggy pants, bandanas....

it's similar stuff to dress codes you see in DC clubs, although i can't say i've ever seen the "tuck in your shirt" rule

power plant live makes no sense....a friend of mine was trying to get in a bar and he was wearing some jeans that were frayed at the ends....the bouncer wouldn't let him in...i looked at the bouncer and he was wearing jeans that were frayed at the ends as well...i pointed this out, and he kicked me out.

 great place, that.

Sonick and anyone else, please let us know how the show was.  I want to see them at Starr Hill too, but I have a conflict, unless you guys say it's really worth it.

Well, what a great band TSOOL is!  Its been a while since i could count the people in attendance.....46! Yup, 46 people standing dispersed amongst the Rams Head floor as Soundtrack walked onstage, the singer pretending he was drunk and falling over.

Then he says "come on up people, its our own private little party"  and they rocked out! Didnt seem to care one bit that less than 50 people were there. played just as well if not better than when they were on the main stage at Coachella.

A lot of new stuff was played, but they grabbed something from every album.  Halfway through the show, these two girls come up to the stage (no one was like, leaning against the stage or anything, you could walk right up) and had six shots with them!!!  the singer took them and passed them around and we all had a drink.

After about 1 hour and 15 minutes, they left and i am like "do 50 people need an encore?"  sure we did!  so back they came for another 5 or 6 songs, taking requests and everything. (I  asked for Instant Repeater 99 and told him to play it cause i bought a shirt tonight, he said "fuck it, well play Instant Repeater")

After the show i went to the bar to finish my beer and within 5 minutes 3 of the band were sitting right next to us!  so we talked to the singer and bassist for a little while (they werent being mobbed, only like 30 people were left!) Really nice guys and they said they really liked Baltimore and hopefully they'll be back!

definitely a classy band with a LOT of talent and NO marketing. its a shame how a record label can overpromote one band and just do nothing at all with another one.

   thats all....

Cool story.  Talk about a lesser known band that could have mass appeal, SOOL is it.

Incredibly talented, great songwriting, charismatic personalities.  Too bad for them, they deserve to be in the top echelon of rock bands.  Im sure there are many bands in the same boat, but Ive gotten rather attached to this band.  Great stuff.

so is this mentioned when one buys advanced tickets?  what happens if you show up and they deny you entry do they refund the cost of the ticket?

someone should send a white and non-white person to the club wearing the same attire and document the outcome.. me smells a lawsuit waiting to happen here...

no one mentioned a dress code to me and i didnt even think of looking for one til someones comment on here.  I am sure the dress code is only used as a tool to remove someone they feel as threatening.  or any black guy.  I am assuming (and it hit me last night) the "shirt tuck" rule probably has something to do with the ridiculous fad of the long white nightgown t-shirts that the black folks like to run around in up here. Then imagined them tucking them in...that would be funny!

Sonick:  Thanks for that review.  The lead singer, Mathias, usually has a very unique, custom made jacket for every tour...what did he have on this time?  BTW:  They did the same thing after the 930 show a few months ago:  came over to the DC9 with the Dears, and drank up everything they could find: same thing with their three shows in two days in NYC.  They are really nice guys; love their fans and their music.  Can't wait for Starr Hill!!!!!

yeah, he had a long black shirt/dress thing on, like always. (not always black though) with some cool designs on it.

another thing i noticed was super lame about Rams Head....i bought tickets for $15 and they are like "$16.50" cause of tax????  and then i bought a t-shirt and the $15 tshirt was "16.50"

who adds fucking tax on top of everything?? how lame.  I understand there's tax, but come on people add it in, I have never paid "tax" on a concert tee at the show!  and $1.50 on $15 is 10% not 5% anyway!

i believe they will start shooting season 4 in October for a Spring 2006 air time. maybe they will put it before the Sopranos and Deadwood so we can have a 3-hour Sunday HBO lovefest!

I concur.  If it was 1968, these guys would be worshipped.  As it is now, theyre too poppy for the indie crowd, not enough marketing for the radio and the older folks who grew up on this type of music cant be bothered with discovering 'underground' bands.

Dont think they have their niche and it seems they are pretty content with their position in the industry.

did anyone actually go to their show in charlottesville?  such a shame that there were only 120 people there, tops.  tsool put on a kick-ass show even with a small stage and shitty sound system.  it was my first time seeing them and i bought a couple of tsool virgins.  spread the word.  they deserve a lot more support.

Yea, the Charlottesville show was great.  Unfortunately, the sound system doesn't suck, bands sometimes play too loud.  If their amps are turned up high then the PA is getting too much sound and it sounds....mushy.  They need to turn down and these guys weren't used to that.

Anyway, they were fantastic. Everyone I was with was highly entertained even though most of them had never heard their music. They really totally rocked.

I think their sound appeals to a wide base of music listeners. If their brutal touring schedule doesn't take it's toll on them,I look for them to have some serious staying power compared to alot of their peers. And they're genuinely nice guys, which always helps. They're doing it the old fashion way, playing shows, letting the word get out and building fans little by little.Shame it isn't clicking immediately but hopefully it'll pay off in the end,and probably better that way for a number of reasons. They enjoy what they're doing as well, which is really what matters most.Nothing better than getting paid to do a job you love.

They already have staying power.  Some of those guys played together fifteen years ago with another band...TSOOL's been together since 1995.  They tour constantly.  I've heard they're paid $50,000. for each tour by the Swedish government for promoting Swedish "products" thus their "I could care less" attitude toward NO audience...ah, socialism is kind to the poor, old, young, sick and rockers.
