Has anyone heard anything about The Living End playing the 9:30 Club sometime in March? I've been waiting for 3 years to see them again.
-
I saw them in 2001 with American Hi Fi for 99 cents and i didnt think they were very good.
-
The news floating around is a march/april tour w/ Jet and possibly The Vines. Been looking out for actual dates and/or venues, but haven't found anything out yet. I could do w/o the Vines, seen them twice, and they were horrible both times. L.E. and Jet though would be cool, much better than the crap played on HFS these days.

this might help... It appears that Californian's are getting more value for thier money. And we get the Vines :p

Same night as British Sea Power at the Black Cat. Damn.

Argh! Dag nam it! Bleedin' Vines screw me again. Went to see them w/ The Music....cuz i'm a huge The Music fan, only stuck around for Vines for the hell of it, ended up being surrounded by 14 year old girls screaming the lyrics into my ear. Now I just want to see some Aussies that actually think rocking out is cool, rather than thinking that acting completely out of it and playing like crap is cool. Sigh, I shall probably shell out the jacked up price anyway...
-
Thanks for the dates....Looks like I can see them at 9:30 and then the Electric Factory.
I saw these guys in 2001, three times. The last time I went to San Fransisco just to see them play. These guys are definately awesome, great vocals, rockin music, and powerful lyrics.

You might want to do it again to avoid The Vines and Jet.

Amen.
They have the order backwards on this show. Jet and The Vines should be opening for Living End, not vice-versa.
-
What's wrong with Jet? When I listen to their CD in the car it makes me drive fast.
-
I agree that TLE should NOT be opening to The Vines and Jet, especially when they are all in Australia it's the other way around. But here, I haven't met too many people who knew who they were, which is really sad, because they are a great band and Chris Cheney could easily be one of the best guitar players around.
-
Hmm, my opinion would have Jet, then The Vines (if they could only get their act together), and L.E. headlining. Don't know about best guitarist around, but i've consistently been wowed by some of his solos, which are rare in the punkish type genre they are usually placed in. All in all, I think we need to get more aussie bands over here. I'm still waiting on Killing Heidi and The Whitlams. Oh, and the problem w/ Jet? Perhaps it's cuz there isn't a single original idea on their album. They pretty much ape Iggy Pop, then the Stones, then AC/DC, and back again. Despite that, I find them a fairly enjoyable listen.
-
Oh! I forgot to mention Powderfinger, Vulture Street is rockin' my world! :D
-
TLE has definite rockabilly roots, before they became The Living End they called themselves Runaway Boys (One would guess to honor the Stray Cats). On their earlier albums, Hellbound and It's for your own good, I think the guitar playing really stands out.
As for Jet and The Vines I really don't care much for either of them. I downloaded a few of their songs and I wasn't impressed. I pretty much stopped listening to the radio when The Strokes came out. I now rely on shows and liner notes for new bands.

Powderfinger rocks!

I actually like Powderfinger, too bad they get no love over here.

I don't have their CD, but I saw them with Kings of Leon. They were a decent live act -- better than KoL, but not as good as 22-20s. So I'd give them the middle spot -- between the train wreck that is the Vines, and the true talent that is the Living End.

Here, here! I would LOVE to see the Whitlams make it over here for some shows. And Powderfinger, Jebediah and You Am I! What a fest that would be...
-
i do remember last Saturday night going to work hearing the Living End's "Prisoner of Society", definitely pumped up the volume when i heard that, still a good anthem song in my mind although i wasn't too impressed with their new album with "Who's Gonna Save Us" on it.
-
Jebediah i'm not so sure about, falls into the category of "Guy whose voice i can stand for only 5 songs straight" Kinda the way I feel about Shannon Hoon. And yeah, "Who's gonna save us" is a bit too, hmm, sugary for me. LOL, one mention of Living End seems to have brought the aussie rock fans out of hiding, so I think i'll drop another band name out there....Anyone on this board a fan of The Superjesus?
-
Don't know The Superjesus. My other Aussie faves are Bodyjar and Pollyana. You may note that my roster is of a certain era -- I was in Sydney for a month in '99, so that's when I got a bunch of stuff and saw some good bands (saw the Whitlams in a place about the size of the Black Cat, but more 'theater' like -- good show; they're so adored over there).
-
Australia puts out some pretty good music. Every few years there's an "Aussie Invasion" in the US, which is really funny and sad.
Didn't TLE get their latest drummer from Pollyana. He is either from Pollyana or Jebediah, but I can't remember which.

I caught that show too - was totally unimpressed with Jet then. Ended up with the CD anyway & well...I actually like it. It's much better than would be expected from their live show.
22-20's were the best that evening - have you heard their live EP? - I think it's called 05/03.
It has its moments.
-
22-20's sound great! You can listen to most of their live album on their official webpage. They came along at a perfect time for me, I have just in the last year gotten into bluesier stuff, Howlin' Wolf, Muddy Waters, and rekindled my interest in the Black Crowes. I'm also super psyched about the upcoming Aerosmith "blues" album.
-
There's a band called The Hummingbirds that my girlfriend loves. They're from Australia. She's also mentioned some band called The Mark of Cain that's from her hometown, Adelaide. Since this has turned into an Aussie Rock thread, have you all heard of either of them?

Not me, thirsty...
