Title: The Dark Knight
Post by: Sage 703 on July 18, 2008, 03:19:00 am
I didn't think it was possible for this movie to exceed my expectations.  It did.

i was absolutely blown away by that movie.  heath ledger needs to win a best actor ever award for his joker.

the batman movie ive always wanted even when i saw batman in 89 at 7 i knew it still wasnt dark enough or scary enough

this is THE BATMAN MOVIE...this is not only the movie that other batmans will have to live up to, but comic book films in general will have to live up to

to make it music related...the dark knight is the pet sounds of comic book movies..

and ledger ...wow...just wow....you believe the joker can actually be real. It goes without saying he makes all other jokers seem like well...jokes. It's down right scary but at the same time you never ever want him to get caught.

I for one hope they (being the cast including the director) dont do a third one...there is no need. All those talks when you were a kid with your buddies about how rad it would be if they did a batman movie this way or that way have come true.

A third Batman, in this franchise, would completely ruin Begins and TDK.

Ledger was absoluutely mind-blowing. I had to remind myself a few times that it was him. I had no idea what it was to immerse one's self in a role until I saw this. Officially the greatest comic book movies ever made, The best fucking Joker.

Everything was so perfect, all the character developtment. Bale was also brilliant, I'm glad we FINALLY got to see a REAL Joker and how he beats Batman down mentally which is what makes him his greatest enemy.

Absolutely amazing. 5 our of 5. no doubt.

Wow, Jack Nicholson must be spinning in his grave right now.

 What's that? He's not dead?....

What the hell was with the bucket list then?

NOT BASED ON A TRUE STORY?!?!

Haha, jokes over, haven't heard a bad review yet. CAN'T WAIT TO FINALLY SEE IT.

Oh, and trust me, Nolan won't go near another sequel unless he knows he can succeed The Dark Knight. He won't tell another story unless it's  worth being told. I saw it in an interview. He said he was focused on making an Empire Strikes Back or Godfather PT. II. In Nolan I trust.

Here's a question.  Is it important to see Batman Begins before you see The Dark Knight?  If so, I'll definitely rent BB first.

Going to try for a long lunch this afternoon for it.

 Can't wait.

I wouldn't say important, but definitely worth doing.  Batman Begins is also great.

We had the same discussion about a third movie.  Sentiment was mixed.  I think they could successfully pull it off, but they've upped the ante on the villain.  They would need a home run of an actor to play a home run of a role.  A dark, sinister Riddler, for example, could be pretty spectacular if done right.  They've also set it up pretty well, though I also felt like you could conclude the franchise when this movie ended.

I don't think I agree that a third movie would necessarily ruin this iteration of the franchise.  These are fantastic movies - a third wouldn't really impact them at all, in my mind.  The Dark Knight stands fairly independent of Batman Begins.

We also started asking - is this the best action movie ever made?  I think it might be.  Certainly on the short list.  Definitely the best Batman movie, almost definitely the best comic book movie...

There have been a few negative reviews starting to trickle out. I know the New Yorker panned it, which got all the Hipinion lambs weeping in their emo shakes. But mostly it's been highly praised. Most criticisms say that the guy playing Harvey Dent is a dud, and some have panned Bale's performance. Heath's has been universally praised.

I'm not much for superhero flicks, but am hoping to check this one out on iMax. Probably wishful thinking.

Really? Ever? As in there has never in the history of film been a better performance than that of Heath Ledger as Joker in this movie? Ever?

I'd put it in the running for one of my favorite performances ever, yes.

might have to shlep down to philly this weekend.

EDIT: cancel that last plan.  it's sold out, obviously.  do i hold out for imax, or deal with the medium-sized screen?

Chantilly is sold out til the 22nd and its the only one in the area playing it.

How important is it? Considering a movie of this magnitude and especially that it was shot IN Imax film, I'd say it'd be a good experience. Im gonna catch it next weekend.

Saw the movie last night and my feelings are as follows: Awesome movie. Really liked it. Was a bit too long and the script could have been retooled to cut out the whole dragged out Two Face stuff at the end. Bale was very sterile and didn't bring that same brooding, tortured hero mystique that he had in Batman Begins. Also Bale's Batman voice gets old and annoying real quick. Ledger was perfect as Joker. He was probably the best comic-book movie villain of all time, but his performance was NOT as ground-breaking amazing as some have tried to make it out. Hell it wasn't even as good as last years performance by Javier Bardem in No Country For Old Men (a much more convincing and scary movie villain in my opinion). Overall Dark Knight was very entertaining, albeit too long. I'll give it a B+ in general as a film, but an A- as a comic based movie.

Whatever happened to Robin?

Fucking Chris O'Donnell was Robin.  There is no topping that one.  He was in the movie that featured Uma as Poison Ivy and The Governator as Mr. Freeze (hurting performance).

yeah, what the hell!  i've been anxious to see this all week, and it was seriously sold out in every theatre in new york city all weekend.  i was hoping to see it on the imax but it looks like i am going to end up seeing it in the middle of the day when no one is around on a normal screen.  i can't wait anymore!  i just watched batman begins a third time the other day in anticipation for this.  christian bale's batman voice is also definitely the funniest thing ever...i giggle every time.  but it's still a sweet movie.

Batman star Christian Bale arrested

The actor Christian Bale, 34, has been arrested for assaulting his mother.

His mother Jenny, 61, and sister Sharon, 40, are said to have gone to a police station in Hampshire to make the claim, which was subsequently referred to the Metropolitan police.

Bale, in London to attend the European premiere of superhero blockbuster The Dark Knight last night, was apprehended by police at the Dorchester hotel, where the incident is thought to have taken place on Sunday night.

A Met spokesman said: "A 34-year-old man attended a London police station on Tuesday by appointment and was arrested in connection with an allegation of assault. He currently remains in custody."

Salt Lake City, Utah: A father who went to a midnight showing of "The Dark Knight" and left his 2-year-old son in the car was arrested early Sunday.

David Farnham, 23, went to the movie at Century 16 Theaters, 125 E. 3300 South, late Saturday night. About 1 a.m. Sunday, other moviegoers noticed a young boy who had been left in a car in the theater's parking lot for a long time, said South Salt Lake police detective Gary Keller.

Janica Nielsen was leaving the theater with her father when she noticed the child alone and sleeping in the car next to hers. At first, she thought the child was a doll.

"I had to take a second look," she said. "We couldn't believe someone would have their child in a car seat unattended like that."

When police arrived to investigate, they discovered the boy had been left alone in the car for more than two hours, Keller said.

"(The child) was terrified and crying," Nielsen said. "He was just soaking in sweat."

The boy was thirsty when officers arrived but otherwise unharmed, Keller said.

Nielsen said Monday that she was angry and struggling to make sense of the incident. "I could never imagine putting my child in danger like that," she said.

Farnham left the windows rolled up "so the child would not be taken out," according to a jail report. The temperature inside the car when the boy was removed was estimated to be 87 degrees, the report said.

The boy was turned over to the Christmas Box House and later released to his mother, Keller said. Farnham was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of second-degree felony child abuse.

I convinced myself that while he was being arrested he kept saying "I'm Batman" in his signature growl.
